  1. that's will be great.

I have to disagree. I think the RC-35 would work fine for your rears but if you buy the RF-83's, the RC-35 will not be voice matched with them. The RC-64 is an amazing speaker and matches the RF-83's very well. If your budget permits, this would be an excellent setup. Not familiar with your sub but my guess is that it will be underpowered compared to the RF-83's.

  2. Angel Do you have the means to audition them yourself in your own home?

Yes. I am a youth pastor and have 2 CL's and 2 RMX amps currently being used in my youth room. I'm planning on borrowing one this weekend to see how it sounds in my setup at home. [:D]

For what it's worth, it'll be cheaper and easier (and electrically the same) if you just use a female RCA to male 1/4" adaptor instead of RCA to XLR. Also, make sure you get the jumper settings on the back of the amp correct...there are highpass filters and bridging/parallel options that you'll want to turn off.

Thx for the advice on the RCA to 1/4" adapter. I might even have some of those in my youth room. I'll check tomorrow when I go in. I have downloaded the manuals for both amps. We have several of the amps bridged but that will not be necessary in my home application. I would hate to see my woofer come flying out of the speaker cabinet. [:P]

  3. Thanks for the advice Michael. I am not really concerned with the fan noise as I am only borrowing the amps to see what my system would sound like with a solid state amp hooked up to it.

The HK is nice but with it only being 45 watts/ch, the sound starts to get kinda harsh with volume at 60 with music. Volume at 45 sounds ideal for the HK. I'm guessing I'm wanting to push the receiver further than it is comfortable doing so I wanted to hook up an external amp to see what kind of difference it makes. It will help me decide what to do when I one day get my RF-83's. I'm sure I'll love the difference it will make, I just wanna get a taste of it with my current setup. [:D]

The last thing I want to do is mess up the HK or the CF-2's in the process. I could probably set the gain of the amp at 1/2 and it still sound fantastic. I'll check Radio Shack for the RCA to XLR converter. Thx for the tip. Anyone have any other comments or suggestions?

  4. Let us know how it's sounds once you get it all setup. Sad the dude is getting a divorce but it's not your fault for the wife selling his equipment. I heard of a lady that found out her husband was cheating on him while he was away on business trips. One weekend while he was away, she had a yard sale of all of his stuff. Selling a very expensive mountain bike for $20 just to tick him off. Then she had the remaining stuff on the lawn waiting on him when he returned.

  5. I have a pair of Klipsch CF-2's driven by a HK AVR55. I've never used an external amp but know that my HK has the ability. I have access to a Crown CL1 or a QSC RMX1450. Both of these are probably commercial amps as they were used in a church youth room. The QSC is 280 w/ch @ 8ohm and the Crown is 275 w/ch @ 8ohm. My HK has Main Pre-Outs but the amps only have speaker line inputs, 1/4 inch and XLR inputs. Is this possible to use either of these amps for a 2 channel setup with my HK? If so, what would be the best method? Thanks.

  6. I too used to own an older Onkyo and it served me very well for many years. I would lean towards the Yamaha or Onkyo myself. I used to have a Pioneer but wasn't too fond of it. It did not have as much power and was not as clean as the Onkyo even though it was 110 watts/channel and the Onkyo was only 85 watt/channel.

  7. One very informative website regarding sound isolation topics can be found here.

Wow, no wonder they call it Green Glue. It takes a lot of "green" to pay for the amount of tubes he would need. By my estimation (if he has 10 foot ceilings) it would cost him $2839.68 to put Green Glue on all four walls, ceiling and floor.

  8. What's your room size, budget and listening habits? Also, if you are married how receptive is your wife to large speakers?

EM3 is correct. I could easily recommend the RF-83 or RF-7 package because I have auditioned both and they both sound amazing. To some, those are huge speakers. There are many in the forums that have had the privelege of either listening to or actually owning some of the Heritage line (Cornwalls, Klipschorns etc) and they would swear by them. Each speaker set has a different sound to them. And what sounds "awesome" to you might sound harsh to someone else. In the world of speakers, bigger is usually better so if you can purchase towers as opposed to bookshelf or inwall speakers, that would be best.

  9. I have never A/B the two speakers but with the KV-3 has 6.5 inch drivers over the 5.25 inch drivers in the KV-2, they have a lower Frequency Response plus they also have a 95db sensitivity as opposed to a 93db sensitivity which means they are more efficient and it will take less power to push them. The only problem is that if you are using the KG 1.5, Klipsch recommends using the KV-2 to match the timbre. The KV-3 matches the KG 2.5. Hope this helps.

  10. TheEAR is correct about the sub. When I worked at Circuit City a few years ago, we kept blowing the Polk sub. It just couldn't handle the high demands of a good 5.1 movie. At that time, the Velodyne was clearly the sub of choice. It walked circles around the Polk.

  11. Yes, a center channel speaker can be used for your rear center. Some people have even mentioned that they would love to have three RC-64's for their front three speakers. I have also heard of people using 5 or 7 RF-7's. The key is having the timbre match for each speaker. Keeping the speakers in the same line that they were designed for works best.

  12. I am a previous owner of Polk RT800 towers, CS300 center and F/X500 rears. I can tell you that in my opinion, the Polks do not come close to the Klipsch line of speakers. I'm a Klipsch convert....and will never go back. [:D]

  13. My bad...I thought it was New In Box, but after re-looking at his auction, it says "Speaker in Box". I was thinking if you can get a KV-3 brand new for $90.00, that would be a steal! But I see it is definitely used and he did increase his price from $90 - $130. $82 for a KV-2 seems reasonable. I think it will serve you well with the rest of your setup. Are you using a sub in your setup?

  14. I am not familiar with the "screw heads" that you are referring to other than what is shown below. My KV-3 is setup the same way. It is there to hold the binding post housing and the pole that is used to adjust the angle of the center channel. Can you provide a link to the image you are referring to?
