  1. Now I see it. In my opinion, I would say that is poor speaker placement. The only way that could be ok is if they angled it slightly upward and the sound cleared the table, but I don't even think that is possible in that setup. One that I love is when I have seen "professional installers" install the center channel near on the bottom floor like in the image below. I'm not an audiophile but in my knowledge of speakers, tweeters are pretty directional. If you have a tweeter firing at your feet, I cannot see how that is proper speaker placement. If it is on the floor and angled upward towards the height of your head, that would be ok. I have always read that with front speakers, ideally you want to have the tweeter of each speaker the height of where your head will be when sitting down on your couch, chairs etc. Just my 2 cents.

  2. That is the way that I have always had my rears (apart, not together). If you go to http://thx.com/home/setup/speakers/71.html on the left nav, go to Speaker Layout. They have suggested arrangements for each speaker. The screenshot I showed was for 7.1 layout. If you look at the 5.1 layout http://thx.com/home/setup/speakers/51.html they suggest to have the bipole/dipole to the sides as opposed to having direct firing in the rear behind the listening area. Many people have suggested in the forums to go with direct firing rears in a 5.1 configuration. THX suggests otherwise. Any thoughts or discussion on this issue?

The THX site has some good information about speaker placement, screen setup, angles, distances etc. This will come in handy when we build our house and theater room.

  3. I just went to the THX website looking for signage and came across this image below. They suggest the back rear speakers be placed next to each other. I don't think I have ever seen this layout before for rear surrounds. Does anyone have their rears in this setup?

  4. Any idea where I can get a sign similar to this?

I saw this in a home theater store. Looked like it was aluminum, steel or some form of metal. I didn't think to ask them where they got it. It was pretty large, and was mounted behind the projection screen. I have vector images for this logo. Would I be able to send it to a metal fabrication company or something?

  5. I don't take you as being snippy at all. I need all the advice I can get. That's why I am here. Learning from those that know more about it than I do. I just have to work within a budget for now.

I have been a youth pastor for 9 years. Still loving it.

I didn't mean to hijack this thread. I probably need to just start a new thread. Thought it would be a quick yes/no answer. [;)]

  6. I've been watching this thread because I am comparing the RF-7 with the RF-82's. All this talk about 2.3 ohms is making me wonder something. I currently have an Onkyo TX-DS555 5.1 Receiver with 70 watts/channel. I am looking at upgrading to the Yamaha RX-V1700. I will more than likely have to use my Onkyo Receiver for awhile till I save up for the Yamaha. Will the Onkyo or the Yamaha be able to handle the RF-7's?

  7. I'm debating between the RF-82's and the RF-7's. Where did you get yours from? I demo'd a pair last week and they totally rocked!

I do not have experience with Denon, only Onkyo. On my receiver, I would go into the surround settings and there is a volume level for each speaker that I can adjust from -12 to +12. Someone in the forum will be able to steer you in the right direction.

  8. JDB,

I have not really considered 12' ceilings for the theater room. I figured it would be just more room to fill sound with. The 8' ceiling in the middle room is a typo. The kids bedrooms will all be 10' while the master bedroom will be 12'.

I like you were, am still not fond of inwalls. I have yet to hear some that have caused me to change my mind. Since it is a theater room, I have no problem showing them off. In fact, I might leave the grill covers off once it is setup since they look so sweet without grills.
