  1. Normally I would say this guy is nuts for his asking price, and given the condition of these, he should get 30% of what he is asking, but I have seen crazier things happen lately. http://cgi.ebay.com/1975-HERESY-Klipsch-Vintage-Loudspeaker-System_W0QQitemZ250154832616QQihZ015QQcategoryZ50597QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem KAK
  2. JBSL. A key of this review was the music was streamed from the Apple Laptop computer, not the Ipod. The ipod only has an earphone out and the docking port on the bottom. That said, I think there is an airport express adapter that can be added to the Ipod and thus would lead me to believe that Digital Audio could be output. The question then to me becomes is does the Airport Express convert analogue signals to digital? Or would the digital output not work? KAK
  3. Damon, If you haven't purchased the Denon yet, take a look at the Anthem AVM 50. It has HDMI Audio Capabilities. Make sure it has 8 Channel Capabilities though, some HDMI 1.1 versions only accept a 5.1 PCM Feed. KAK
  4. Erik, Blu-Ray is one of two competing High Definition Video formats. The other is HD-DVD. Blu Ray has a higher market penetration right now, but neither format will probably win out in the short term. In fact, with the ability to download HD content from Netflix and Blockbuster coming shortly, neither format may win as Media Extenders become more prominent and can send the movie to your TV from your computer. A media center extender is a box similar to a cable box that pulls downloaded information from your computer and displays it on your TV or through your Audio Processor. Hope that helps. If not, go to wikipedia or type Blu-Ray in on a google search. You will read stuff till your eyes hurt on which is better. LOL KAK
  5. JBSL, One of the problems with the IPOD is that it does not have a data connection. Only analogue outputs. A few companies are adding aftermarket Sp/Dif outputs to the Ipods, but the cost is very prohibitive. I think it is in the $2000 range and voids the Apple Warranty. Personally the Wolfson 2 Channel DAC in the Ipod has pretty good reputation, it is getting the Analogue info to the Pre-Amp that causes the problem via the current Big Box Ipod Docks. (2 channel Analogue Audio is actually sent via the docking port, not digital data)
  6. I am interested as well. Please send Pics and SN# info to my email. I sent you a PM as well. KAK
  7. Damon, Optical will only give 5.1 Sound. Cobalt Cables sells an 25 pin to 8 Channel Analogue RCA for $120.00. I would recommend the Panasonic BD10AK Blu-Ray player. It does all the audio decoding. Does this mean the Stage One isnt for sale anymore. LOL KAK
  8. Well it has been the flavor of the month since the Christmas season of 2001. It has outlasted many game consoles, cell phones, DD, DTS, DVD-A, HDCD, and SACD. I would say a 6 year "flavor of the month" is pretty good staying power. With 100 million units sold, and the fact that it controls 70% of the "portable" audio market sales, it will be around for the foreseable future. Ipod and digital audio type devices are going to be around for years to come. While the formats used to save them may change, the idea won't. An Ipod is no different than a music bank that saves lossless audio, just smaller. It allows it to be portable. Heck, DVD has only been out for 10 years and it is being replaced by competing formats. The great thing about Audio, is it stays pretty consistent while video will keep emerging over time. Heck, there are already talk that HDMI Spec 1.3 is out the door for a new transport medium and until home theatre receivers reach the 17 Channels that are now in use in the Actual Theaters, that medium will advance as well. KAK
  9. To answer a few questions. With Apples marketing prowess, the Ipod is not going anywhere for the foreseeable future. Secondly, I can store most of music in a lossless audio format on the Ipod. The DAC inside the IPOD is pretty darn good. The circuits in the existing big box store solutions cause sound degradation. With a 600GB hard drive available, I record most of my chosen music in lossless format, save it as a playlist and download what I want to listen to on my ipod. It takes 5 minuts to change whats on the ipod if I want to "switch music". As for the Manley. The Audio Dealer is the original owner of the unit. He sold it to the pawnshop because "and he won't tell me what is wrong with it" he wouldn't be able to recoup the cost of the repair by selling it through his shop. The Pawn Shop has it fairly priced at $1000. I would have bought it no questions asked for $700, but they lost out because they raised the price. That caused me to do some research hence I found who the original owner was, contacted him and asked why he didn't resell it in his own shop. The answer that there was something wrong with it and that I should stay away was good enough. The fact that he carries only high end Audio...(Anthem, McIntosh, Adcom, Rotel, Pioneer Elite, Top Line Denon, Integra, Yamaha, NAD and he recommended I look at some other items for better sound, I figured he was telling me to stay away from Solid State (correctly) and of course new MAC gear is out of my price range. As for research, I have found very little on Psiber Audio, while Roth Audio aka Fatman has gotten some very respectable reviews in Europe and Great Britain. KAK
  10. The Manley Stingray Deal fell through. It is still for sale, but the Pawn Shop owner raised his asking price to $1000 after seeing one sell on Ebay for $1000. I listened to it in store and sent the serial number via email to EveAnna at Manley. She replied back with who the original owner was. It was the owner of a local high end stereo shop. I called him up and asked why he pawned it. He said the amp had some problems and he didn't feel comfortable selling it to any of his customers so he sold it to the pawn shop instead. He recommended that I look at this item since I store a good chunk of music on my 600GB hard drive PC in Appless Lossless Audio Format. http://www.rothaudio.co.uk/docs/products/mc4.shtml He also recommended I look at this set-up as well... http://www.psiberaudio.com/iPod_3.htm with the PAS3 Pre-Amp............. http://www.psiberaudio.com/iPod_4.htm By the way, he is not a dealer for either and is a Manley dealer, so he turned down a potential sale and recommended products he doesn't carry. Thanks, KAK
  11. I was recently in my favorite High End Audio Video store in Fort Wayne and they are selling a pair of '89 Chorus Oak Veneer. The cabs appear to be an 8/10 based on age. They look really good. No bubbling of the Veneer, no dings. The Grills are the "grey carpet, wool looking" looking type. They could use some work. They sound good, all original components. The store is asking $500 for the pair, but is taking offers. If anyone is interested, let me know and I will put you in touch with the owner. KAK
  12. She read it. I'm letting her sleep on it and we will see. These aren't the ones I am looking at, though I do know something about them and they are a great pair. I hope a forum members snatches them up. KAK
  13. Those are some pretties. I think I have seen them before too....[]
  14. Fritz, I thought you were "done" buying for awhile LOL! KAK
  15. Colter, I can see you have the front of your soundstage set. What do you use for the sides and surrounds LOL. And yes, she has three sisters....one of them will be in Indy on Monday for a training meeting. :-) KAK
  16. I already tried the shoe approach. That is how I justified the La Scala purchase. I just correctly pointed out that it was only 20 pairs of shoes. As for the Bose....Bought those with my own cash when I was in Middle School (first speaker purchase ever to start the madness). Parents wouldn't let me buy anything big (aka loud) for my bedroom. Plus I got them as a demo unit purchase from an electronics store that was going out of business. I think I paid about $150 for them. Ever since, I have been consistently going back and forth between Klipsch and Paradigm models. I guess I can't figure out if I am Canadian or American (I do play hockey). The La Scala's will never get re-placed and I doubt if I will part with the Studio 20's as they are great bookshelf speakers and the Quintet HT set-up in my bedroom is safe. KAK
  17. What about the Pioneer Elite DV59AVi. I have its predecessor from overseas and it has good sound plus Legatto Pro Upsampling for CD's and High Bit Rate conversion. Good Picture for DVD, but my main use in trying to track one down is the DVD-A and SACD Audio. I was in Wal-Mart tonight and they still have a decent selection of Hybrid Titles Available. A used DV-59avi shouldn't cost more than $300 used. KAK
  18. Try to play once a week, probably average once a month... Let's play a round at the next Pilgrimmage...I'll even set-up.....if Klipsch provides the prizes LOL. KAK
  19. IndyKlipsch, I think I have caught the bug. There is a pair of 87 La Scala's for sale in the Fort and I have the Surround Bug now. Goal would be 4 La Scala's, A custom made La Scala Center. Someday, I would step up to 7.1...LOL Anyways, my wife thinks I am MAD. She made me take a speaker inventory today. Here is the list. It is nothing compared to most of the members (Colter) but she thinks it is a lot and wanted me to post the "inventory" to see if others responded. She doesn't think there are that many of us who just stock stuff away. 2 x 2004 La Scala's 2 Paradgigm Studio 60 2 Paradigm Studio 20 2 Pardigm ADP 450 1 Paradgm CC450 2 AR 308HO 4 Paradigm Edge 1 AR Center Channel (matching drivers to 308HO) 1 Klipsch Quintet III Center 6 Klipsch Quintet II Satelittes Bose AM-5 Mk II (2 double cubes and passive sub) 1 Bose VCS Center 2 Bose 21 Bookshelf Speakers 1 Realistic Passive 12" Sub 1 Paradigm PS-1200 1 Klipsch Sub-10 "Loaned" to Friends (i will never get them back LOL) 2 Realistic Cast Satelittes 1 KLH Center 2 Advent Prodigy II Tower 2 KLH 3-Way Speakers (12 inch woofers) 2 Homemade 2 Way speakers (solid cherry w/ 8 inch woofers) This count doesn't include the 2 Box-set shelf systems that are connected to my PC or sitting in my office at work. The sad thing is, all of the speakers are currently in USE in some system somewhere (my house, parents house, lake cottage) So how can I justify buying 2 More La Scala's.....DTEL's wife....I need your help on this one :-) LOL KAK
  20. Indy, He would need a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player that internally decoded the new 8 Channel Audio and output them from the Analogue Outs. Currently, I believe the only unit that has both DD-HD and DTS-HD and 8 Channel Analogue out is the Panasonic BD10AK. Most of the other models on the market including the Pioneer Elite Blu-Ray, the offerings from Sony, and Phillips and the HD DVD players from Toshiba only have 6 Channel Analogue outs meaning they can't D/A the DD-HD and DTS-HD signals. Also, the Panasonic BD10AK only does DVD-Audio. I have finally made the decision that I am waiting for a BR model to come out with both DVD-A and SACD. (Good thing I can cancel my order since the BD10AK hasn't shipped yet) At this point, B/R has a huge "lead" in the format wars with all but one Major Studio on board now. Only Universal is not producing their films in B/R while quite a few are still not producing in HD-DVD. Also, the decision by Blockbuster to only stock B/R in stores had to hurt HD-DVD. I have been looking to upgrade my DVD-A SACD player (Pioneer DV-s733a which is the equivelant to Pioneer Elite DV-47a). But to get into a DV59 or DV79AVi, I am going to have to fork over $600 bucks. I would rather wait a few months and pay $1500.00 for a BR player that does universal Audio. I am hoping it is Pioneer that hits the market first. I am a fan of their Legato Pro Upsampling, and want to keep my stereo rack nice and clean. As HarryO says, keep it simple. I mean personally, I talked to Damon about purchasing his Stage One, but my HT room won't be finished until at least October the way the contractor is going. (not a high priority job for him) so I am not in a hurry to purchase and let sit in a box. I planned on setting it up via the 8 Channel Analogue inputs though. I still use my DSP-A3090 with 6 Channel Analogue inputs for DTS via an outboard decoder. KAK
  21. Damon and other Forum Members, The High Bit rate codecs need to go through HDMI, but only if you use external decoding. Most BR and HD-DVD players have internal decoding for DD,DTS, DD-HD and DTS-HD and some like the Panasonic BD10AK do DVD-A as well. Connect an RB25 to 8 x RCA cable from Cobalt Cables ($120) and you are good to go. I expect Pioneer and Denon to come out with Blu-Ray Players with Universal Audio Capability soon. I think the Pany is the best on the marker and the only one that Currently has 8 Channel Outs plus DD-HD and DTS-HD, but Pioneer and Denon can't be far behind and they will certainly have better sound. The Pany BD10AK for $599 that includes 10 Blu Ray movies (5 in box and 5 by MIR) is a great solution right now. I have one on order but am rethinking my decision because I want SACD as well. I would love to see Pioneer introduce a model with the Audio Specs of the Elite 79Avi with B-R capabilities and the new DD-HD and DTS-HD decoding and 8 Channel Analogue outs. What a winner that would be. KAK
  22. Dave, Are you shipping these speakers to another Forum member? Or did you buy a pair and need them shipped safely. Let us know the details and we might be able to help out. We would hate to see some Heritage series speakers get damaged. KAK
  23. Jeff, Let me know when you head into town. Hopefully we can all at least get together for a Beer... KAK
  24. You have been emailed.............. KAK
