  1. Thanks All, As luck would have it, a set of Heresy 1 turned up on Craigslist half hour away for $250. Spoke with the owner and they are in proper working order-just need refinishing. Picking them up tonight and the boy will be sanding away tomorrow! Thanks for all the input. John
  2. Hey everybody, thanks for the input. These speakers will be in his room now and I assume will go off to college with him in two years. Seems most would recommend waiting for a cheaper set of Heresys or saving up a little more money for a nice set. Foretes come up often but are usually more than Heresys. Any opinions on Quartets? They get great reviews on many sites but not much mention here. I've never heard them. John
  3. I recently bought two sets of Heresy 1 to use as rears and center paired with my vintage Cornwalls (one of those Heresy 1 will make it's way to ebay as a single as soon as I have refinished it properly). When my 15 year old son heard the Heresys he immediately wanted a set for himself (smart boy!). We've been watching ebay and even sets in poor condition that need major refinishing are selling around $350 and nice sets over $450 which is a little steep for his budget. I have no familiarity with any of the Klipsh speakers made after the originals other than to have a quick listen if I happened to be in a stereo store. None seemed to have that great Heresy sound of deep bass and awesome midrange. Any suggestions for a Klipsh speaker my son might get for a little less money and still capture most of the Heresy sound? Thanks, John
  4. Well, I started all this with a simple question about turning a Heresy on it's side! I've got my original Cornwalls for R and L and Heresy I for center and rears and powered Klipsch sub. My 61" Samsung 1080p was delivered today and my top of the line Pioneer elite AV reciever and DVD are on the way as are Jolida tubes for 2 channel listening! All this to go in a presently unfinished but soon to be finished basement. My plan is to custom build the wall for the HT equipment that I can walk behind for ease of connections and allow me to slide the TV and Cornwalls and center Heresy into customized spaces so everything is flush across the frontplace and the center Heresy is in it's intended upright position! It will be awesome and I 'll post pcis when it's done. Thanks for all the input! John
  5. I had been thinking about the sound quality form the Heresy on it's side and had'nt thought about shielding issues until several of you brought it up. Thanks. I'll be using a Samsung 55" slim cabinet rear projection TV. If the Heresy is on a shelf below the TV rather than sitting directly on the TV is this going to be a problem. If so, what's the best way to handle the shielding?
  6. You're half deaf from driving that tractor with no ear protection! Thanks for the input. I'm not that into the movies anyhow-prefer two channel music-but wanted to make sure I wasn't going to commit an audiophile crime by tipping the Heresy on it's side. John
  7. I'm setting up a home theater system with vintage cornwalls front and heresys rear and center. For ease of fitting the heresy center into some sort of logical position it would best fit on it's side. I don't want to try to cut it up to make a "vertical heresy". Obviously the horns would be vertical rather than horizontal with the speaker on it's side. Would this have a significant impact on the sound? Thanks, John
  8. thanks daddy dee, I got the number for Duracrest, which interestingly is about half hour from my home, and will call them to get the fabric which I understand is #17 black and is exact match. I'm anxious to see how these Heresys turn out after refinishing the cabinets and new grills. Hope they look like new. Planning to give a set to my 15 year old when I get them done. A whole lot better than anything we could buy new for $300.00!
  9. I'm refinishing a couple of sets of Heresy I speakers and they could use new grills. Does anyone know if grills and emblems can be purchased anywhere or if the grill material can be purchased to make them myself. Thanks, John
  10. Somehow I knew an 8 hour one way drive would seem like an obvious clear choice to many on this site! In a former life I would be half way there with my best buddy riding shotgun, a cooler full of cold ones, and a back seat full of bungy cords to strap that sucker to the roof! Now I need 48 hours in every day to get done half of what I need to do and spending a weekend going to get a speaker just isn't gonna happen. Maybe there is a life lesson here!
  11. It seems that since they are making the vintage speaker again, Heritage Line, they would make a comparable center, either a Heresy or version of the Academy. Seems everyone on this site with vintage speakers would be interested in having one! John
  12. I'm more into music than movies and am planning to run Jolida tubes to Cornwalls for 2 channel listening. Just need something for center that won't be lost with the Cornwalls and won't sound muddy. Seems to be a consensus that a Heresy would be OK. Do I need to do anything with the wiring of the Heresy to use as a center or OK as is? John
  13. thanks, I saw that single cornwall on ebay and it does look nice but they won't ship it. Local pick-up only in middle of nowhere 8 hours from me.
  14. I've owned a pair of Cornwalls since I bought them in 1981 while in college. I've always loved these monsters and have dragged them around with me from home to home for 26 years where sometimes they've been in use but often stored away. Now they are coming out from under the tarp in the basement to be the front speakers for home theater. I just bought a pair of original Heresys for the rears and am deciding on a center. A single cornwall would be ideal but not liekly to happen. The Academy gets rave reviews but not so easy to find. Most seem to think that none of the modern Klipsh true centers are a good match to the Cornwalls (except possibly the RC-7 which I have not heard?) The easiest and least expensive route would seem to be another Heresy. I'll be running a Pioneer Elite VSX72TVX and Pioneer Elite universal disc player. What are your thoughts. P.S. While I love vintage Klipsch speakers I know squat about the electronics. I've seen several posts regarding new crossovers for these vintage speakers, especially when using as a center, and have to admit I don't even know what the crossover does much less why it would need to be rebuilt. Feel free to enlighten me and thanks for your time.
