  1. Schu, I gather from your response that my asking price is off? I priced them based on what has been on ebay past few weeks as there has not been much for sale here. There have been several pair of poor condition Cornwalls at this price. I'll certainly take another look at what's out there and adjust as necessary. Thanks.
  2. I am remodeling and installing Klipsch architectural speakers so I am selling my beloved Cornwalls. I am the second owner and bought them in 1980. I have treated them like a member of the family so they are in excellent condition. I immediately had glass tops made for them so they do not even have the ubiquitous water ring from a beer bottle or potted plant! One small chip in corner of one veneer is pictured. No scratches or dents. RISERS. Grill covers have no tears or pulls. Upgraded to Crites crossovers a few years ago but original crossovers will go along with the speakers. Much to my surprise I found out today that they are not consecutive serial numbers which are 22T276 and 23U343. They are finished in a nice medium color stain that will blend with any décor. Asking $1200. I also have a single Heresy in black with slanted riser that I have been using as a center speaker. It is also in excellent condition. Serial # 21P924. Asking $300 Original boxes dried up and fell apart a few years ago so they are not available. I can't deliver these so they are for pick up in Plainfield IL 60585 which is a southwest burb of Chicago. People here on the forum have always been great and I really do love these speakers and want them to find a good home so I will post here for a while before going to Craigslist and/or ebay. Please contact me with questions or suggestions. Thanks! Having trouble uploading photos. I'll keep trying but you can contact me at drjpmac@sbcglobal.net and I will send you pics.
  3. thanks to everyone for the suggestions!
  4. Any recommendations for a sub to pair with vintage Hereseys in a 2.1 system?
  5. Thanks. What in wall surrounds are you using? I definitely will need in walls for this house and not sure which ones to get. I presently have a Heresy center with the cornwalls and it's great. I would recommend that for you if you get the chance. Unfortunately I can't fit it in my new house.
  6. Using Cornwall mains. Any suggestions for in wall/cieling speakers for center and rears?
  7. Long time since last post! I had no need to change my system for many years so I have not visited the forum. My 7.1 home theater system consisted of cornwall mains, heresy center and surrounds and forte rears. I have moved and have to come up with a suitable home theater system. I will be going from a 7.1 system to a 5.1 system and will be keeping the cornwalls. The center and rears will have to be cieling/wall mounted architectural speakers. I have no experience with this type of speaker. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
  8. I did not realize how tall the RF 5/7 speakers are. The speaker width is actually the biggest issue which is why I did not originally look at the KG series. The width of the RF5/7 is better but they are really tall and somewhat more expensive than I wanted. Your right, I've got an itch that needs to be scratched with the KLF series even if they are not exactly what I need for this setup. Can always use another set of Klipsch, right?
  9. I underestimated the size of the RF-5 and RF-7. Everyone seems to like them but they are likely too large. Maybe I'll check out the KG series. They seem to be readily available. I am intriqued by the KLF 20 and 30 which apparently are harder to find.
  10. I'm a long time Klipsh fan but have only heard and collected heritage speakers. Have cornwalls, forte II and heresy for my main HT. I'm setting up another system in a smaller room and space dictates mains that are fairly narrow. I'm fine with buying used and would like to stay in the $500-$700 range. I see KLF 20 and 30, RF5 and 7 and other "tower type" speakers here and on ebay. Also, will likely need to go with in wall speakers for rear. Would appreciate any suggestions on combination of speakers.
  11. I would definitely go with a single Heresy over any of the others you mentioned as a center between two Hereseys or LS. I agreee that a heresy would be an upgrade over the Academy in your current system. There are always folks looking for a single heresy so if you have to buy a pair to get a nice one you will easily be able to sell the other if you don't want it for any reason. I needed a heresy center so I bought a pair and did some basic refinishing and sold one for what I paid for the pair.
  12. Good lookin' out! Thanks for your personal experience with the 302b. I had first looked at that one, but I've read for several sites that the 302b didn't have very much bottom end, so thats why I was leaning more towards the 502. Speaking of which, were you missing any bottom end sound with your cornwall/302b setup? And I was't aware that the 302b could have a sub out on it, so thats pretty sweet news! if any of you guys have experience with jolida keep them comming! Cotton, Only the new 302RC has the sub out feature. I was also concerned about the bottom end with the Cornwalls/302 setup from my readings but was very satisfied when I got it hooked up. I listen to everything from hard rock, jazz, vocals, even some classical (sorry, no country shall pass through my cornwalls!) I'm fairly certain the 502 would also be nice as some of the others have posted. As with all this stuff it comes down to personal preference! PS-there is a 302B and 302RC on Audiogon now. Good luck and happy listening.
  13. I have a pair of Cornwalls that I've lugged around the midwest from house to house since I bought them used while in college in 1981. Never could bring myself to part with them because I thought they sounded so great. Always ran them with fairly inexpensive yamaha and denon ss gear. They had been in storage in the basement for several years so I recently thought about selling them. Got on the web to research prices and came across this site and a few others where I repeatedly read about how great Cornwalls are with tubes. So rather than selling I set them up in the basement and did some research on tube amps about which I knew zero. A found a bunch of posts that specifically liked the Jolida/cornwall combo and found that Jolida got consistently great reviews for entry level tubes. More research seemed to point to EL34 tubes with Cornwalls. Spoke with a guy that sells Jolida and he said to go with the 302 which uses the EL34 tubes. So I had no trouble finding one used as they often are available on Audiogon and ebay. Hooked up the Corns and fell in love all over again! Could not believe how much better they sounded than with the ss gear. Had a bad tube which gave me an excuse to swap out the cheap original chinese tubes for some nice russian tubes and improved the sound even more dramatically. So there you have it...I did all the research for you! If you can spend over a grand get the new 302BRC which has a remote and a sub out if you plan to use a sub. If you want to try tubes on the cheap IMO you can't go wrong with a used 302B or a little older 302A. I'm enjoying just sittin' and listening to music again for the first time in many years!
  14. There always seems to be a particular artist and/or album that just seems to be made for your system (or visa versa). While I would not list her amongst my favorites, I enjoy Loreena M and find the mix of instruments/vocals/rythoms captivating and almost eerie on certain tracks. A few months ago I bought my first tube amp and powered up my Cornwalls that had been in storage for several years. While I probably hadn't listened to her discs for years, for some reason the first dics I played was Loreena M and could not believe what I was hearing. What an amazing match with the Cornwalls and Jolida tube amp. Everything sounds good but she sounds incredible. I play several of her tracks for demo of my system when guests are over.
  15. Hey James, You're right. Everyone will say tubes! I've got 1980 Corns and ran them with mid level recievers from the likes of yamaha and denon for 25 years and thought they sounded good . Then I recently decided to try tubes and bought a used jolida 302 integrated and WOW what a difference. Actually has me back to just listening to music instead of watching the idiot box (even though it's a nice 61" high def idiot box) for the first time in many years. Dusting off the music collection and hearing things I never heard before! Jolida is a great value for intro tubes and great with Corns. Easy to get nice used on ebay or Audiogon for reasonable $$. 302 is best Jolida match to Cornwalls.
  16. I have similar vintage Cornwalls and just got my first tube amp. WOW what an improvement in sound! I was looking for a reasonably priced "starter" since I dind't know if I would like the tubes. Several sites including this forum suggested a Jolida tube amp. Spoke to some knowledgeable Jolida folks and they recommended the 302. Seems the EL34 tubes are a good match with Cornwalls. The current model is 302B. I was able to get an older model 302A on Audiogon for under 400.00 and they also come up on ebay with regularity. I love this amp! Plenty of power and good bass too. Gets universally rave reviews on sites that do that stuff. Good luck. Your Cornwalls will sound new and improved.
  17. I have Cornwalls and 2 sets of Herseys with original binding posts. All the spades I can find are too wide to fit. I've always just attached the bare wire under the flat head screw but am in the process of upgrading my system and would like to use some nice termination of the speaker wire. What are you folks with Heritage speakers using to terminate your speaker wires? Thanks
  18. Hi, I'm refinishing a set of Heresys and need enough of the Duracrst #17 black fabric to recover the grills. I spoke directly with Duracrest several months ago and they have been unable to get the fabric to me as first they were out of fabric due to a large order from Klipsch and now they are too busy to get the fabric out to me. Does anyone have enough of this fabric for two Heresy grills that they wouyld be willing to sell? Thanks
  19. wuzzzer. thanks for the input. The automatic surround adjustments with the mic and tones resulted in bad result- very little sub and virtually no surround. Did a manual setting with the fronts set on small and upped the sub volume and got a good result. Watched XXX and rattled the house! This setup is bad for music so I'll just go to 2channle with the cornwalls for listening. john
  20. Thanks all, I'm making some progress with the set-up of my new system but have a long way to go. Basically, when I do the speaker set-up if I select "large" for the front speakers (cornwalls) and center (heresy) they sound like they should but I get virtually no sound from the sub. If I select "small" for the front and centers I get much more sound from the sub but the fronts and center have no bass and sound tinny. At least I know everything is working and apparently need to keep messing with the various set-up options to find the right combination which I think will be very different for music vs movies. John
  21. Thanks, I have read alot of good things and nothing negative about Mullard tubes. Seems lots of people like some of the Russian tubes (svetlana) as well. I'm looing forward to trying tubes with my Cornwalls.
  22. I just purchased a used Jolida 302A amp with stock tubes to use with my Cornwalls for 2 channel listening. The amp has not arrived yet and I plan to use it with the stock tubes initially. This is my first venture into the world of tubes and I've read alot about tube rolling to improve sound. Does anyone with tube experience have any recommendations for EL34 tubes to get the best sound from the Cornwalls? Thanks, John
  23. Hi, Just posted this in the technical section and then realized probably should be in sub section. I've had my KSW-12 sub hooked up via the speaker level connections because my old reciever didn't have a sub connection and it worked fine. Just bought a Pioneer Elite AV reciever and hooked up the sub with a single sub cable from the pre-out sub on reciever to the LFE in on the sub and got no sound. Attached a Y cable to connect to both inputs on the sub and still nothing. Turned up the sub level to the max on the reciever surround adjustments and no sound. Any suggestions? Thanks, John
  24. I've had a KSW-12 for some time and always had it connected via the speaker level connections because my electronics didn't have a specific sub connection. Always worked fine. Just bought new Pioneer Elite AV reciever and hooked up the sub via the line level LFE connection to the reciever pre-out sub connection and get nothing. Klipsch manual recommend Y connection into both sub inputs to increase sound but still nothing. Turned up sub level to max on recieveer surround adjustments and still nothing. Any suggestions? Thanks, John
