  1. I currently have an HK AVR-745 receiver and I am pretty fed up with it. I have some serious compatibility issues surrounding 1080p(ie, it won't pass it thru), as well as multiple glitches in the upconverting process. To be honest, if it weren't for the sound of the receiver, this thing would have been thrown outside a long time ago. IMO, the video side of this unit is garbage. Sure, I could run all of the HDMI components to my TV Directly, and then run optical to the receiver, but that just makes a hassle out of remotes, and changing inputs on both the TV as well as the receiver. I've been looking at several units online that support hdmi 1.3, and seem to be much more friendly with all of the newer technologies that have come in recent years. While the 745 isn't that old, everything from compatibility issues to the user interface feel like they were made in 95. I have come to you all for advice. I know it will be unbiased and both fair and reasonable. Should I upgrade to something else? What else out there would give me the sound quality of the 745 as well as the power? No real budget, but I would like to get it done for as cheap as possible obviously Some units I have been looking at are the denon 3808ci, Onkyo 905 and I hate to say it but Sony's new unit. For the Sony, I know the power can't be there, but I could always get an amp and it seems to have the best functionality support. Please help me come up with new ideas, and give me your opinion! Thanks in advance!!
  2. So you think it is a room problem then?
  3. First off, Thanks for everyone's responses! I feel like I got some really good information. I did however have a follow up question. I purchased the Avr745 without an audition. I bought it on the word of others as being a stellar receiver and a good match for Klipsch. After hearing my exact same speakers at a colleagues house, I feel that mine are seriously lacking. His setup was with an Integra 6.4 receiver, which was originally about 2k less than the Avr745 and from a spec comparison, it isn't a quarter of the receiver that the avr745 is. Ie, the integra weighs about 25 lbs compaired to the hk's 50ish lbs, along with total power consumption. While his receiver is rated at 100wpc and mine is only rated at 85wpc, I just figured it would have something to do with the additional wattage. Bottom line, while I understand that my receiver has a great reputation, I would be curious to hear from another owner to see their happiness level on the unit. While it does serve very well as a processer, I thought if I picked up a decent amp (open to reviews, budget in the 1500-2000 range) that it may make a world of difference. One amp I had my eye on was from Outlaw audio and was 7x200. Sounded like a great deal at 1500ish.
  4. I run an HK Avr 745 and I have a question about adding an external amplifier. I have been looking at preamps on the net and notice that they have big round connectors that you hook the external amplifier up to. These connectors look fairly similar (but larger) to S-Video connectors. First off, I know I'm sounding like an idiot because I don't know the technical term, but my first question is what are these called? Secondly, would I be able to hook up an external amp to my AVR-745 thru the preamp outputs (the ones that the subwoofer goes thru)? If so, then how much audio loss would occur? I'm assuming that there would have to be a significant amount of loss or else why would they have different connectors for specific pre-amps. My third question is would hooking up an external amplifier even be beneficial to the 745? If so, to what degree? I am running a RF-35 setup with RS-62s in the back and a RC-7 up front. The reason I am thinking about the external amp is because I plan on upgrading to RF-7;s or RF-83s (more than likely the 7's). Would I need the additional power for either of these or would the 745 do the job? For now, would upgrading to a 7x200 amp make a big difference to my current rf35 setup? Thanks, and please if you only reply to one thing, answer the first 2 questions as they are more important to me Thanks again!
  5. Just adding my .02c to the conversation, I strongly prefer HD-DVD to Blu-Ray. I own 2 BluRay players, PS3 and the Sony BDP-S500. I also have the Toshiba A20 for HD-DVD. First off, the sound quality for HD-DVD in my setup sounds superior. This is in part due to my inability to get either of my Blu-Ray players to run at anything over 48k. Maybe this is the reason for my bias. Video quality is far superior with my HD-Dvd player. It has AMAZING upconverting capibilities as well as far superior HD video quality. Both have good quality, but for me HDDVD stands out way ahead of BluRay. To top all of this off, I paid 250 bucks for the HD-DVD and 900 for the BluRay - Go figure! As to the people that don't think HD-DVD or Bluray are superior to DVD, you are smoking rocks. I am an audio and video nut, and either format is leaps and bounds over regular DVD. While I will say, the upconverting capibilities of the A-20 are amazing, and the best of any upconverting player I have ever owned (and I have owned many), it is still significantly behind either hd format. Once again, just my .02.
  6. I'm telling you that you will be very happy. That's a good price, and like I said, the difference is going to be worlds apart. I'm glad that I could offer the advice. I almost run the same setup (i got an extra 10wpc with the 745) and I LOVE it. So does my girlfriend (aside from the size of the speakers). On a side note, let me know how the rs-35's work for you. I upgraded mine to the RS-62, and never heard the 35's. Regards!!
  7. All I'm saying is that it wasn't enough for me. For the extra money the 745 sound's way better, and like I said, we're not talking thousands, just a few extra hundred bucks.
  8. Actually, if you watch Ebay, you can get one for under 700 bucks. Not a big step up in price, and it beats the piss out of the 661.
  9. The AVR 247 IMHO will not be enough to fully power the RF35's. I own the RF-35s and use the AVR745 which is a SIGNIFICANT step up from the 247. I did, however, audition the 247 in my home before I purchased the 745. With the 247, the speakers sounded OK, but just OK. To be honest, I was a bit dissapointed and considered getting a different set of speakers. LUCKILY I ended up trying a more powerful receiver and WOW, the RF-35's are all the speaker I need. I love them. Sure, I could probably be happier with some RF-7's, but hell, I get complaint's with my setup now, my neighbors would kill me if I upgraded any more - BTW - Sound Distributers is a great outfit!
  10. MAS - I sincerely apologise that I am not an uber geek that lives for technology and doesn't have a life. I am extremely sorry that I upset you so much that you had to write a thesis on why I should have "READ EVERY POST" before posting. Truth of it is MAS, I honestly did read them, and felt that my specific question hadn't been answered. Aparently I was wrong, so I do sincerely apologise! Regards!
  11. The method I am refering to is fools biamping. I just don't understand why this doesn't work. Currently, I have a pair of RF-35's. I have an HK AVR 745. I have 2 extra inputs available. PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME. What is the difference between me running my FR channel to my RF-35 with the gold connectors on and running the FR and extra Multi channel output together, with the connectors still on? It would seem to me, that if my receiver is running the same sound through both channels, then why would I need a crossover, or anything else for that matter if I am just trying to achieve greater wattage output. Why would it make the sound quality worse than it is now? Maybe I am missing the point, but I have read EVERY post, and none of them seem to address this question. Please let me know.
  12. I definately see your points, and understand the difference. The listening situation for the sub 12 were definately sub par. If everyone seriously considers them great subs, maybe I will just get 2 of them and hope for the best. Do the reference 12s give a significant increase over the sub12? Also, I have been reading a lot about svs subs. They are fairly priced in compairson to the Klipsch models. Do you think they are a better bang for your buck. Once again - I really appreciate your imput. Oh, BTW, If I were to DIY a sub, where would I begin to look for info regarding it? Would I be ok using a car subwoofer for it? What kind of mono amps do they have that would support a 2ohm load? Regards, Arron
  13. Thanks for the response. When I say "crisp" you know what I mean. Anyway, I don't like sloppy bass, and I have auditioned the sub 12, and to me it sounded underpowered, just not my taste. I don't have anywhere to audition the Reference series where I live - but would want to know how much better they are then the synergy subs. Also, I guess what I am looking for is really deep bass, with high definition. Maybe I am going to need to spend more than 500 bucks. What would compair to a Kicker solobaric? Anything of that calibur for a home? Price isn't that much of an issue, although, if there is one speaker that's 1k with a similar sound to one thats better for 2k, I would go for the one at 1k Thanks,
  14. I've been working with speakers for a long time. While I am not an expert, I have never had a situation where the connection was responsible for sound loss. The speaker isn't going on and off, it sounds as if it is running in Mono, it kinda sounds like you are hearing it from a different room. All you hear is the murmors, and such. It just isn't clear, and it is noticable. ANYWAY, thanks for the imput. If this doesn't fix it, would I send it to Klipsch or the online retailer that I got it from, Thanks again!
  15. Thanks, I will definately check that. It's only one of the two speakers. If it is an internal connection, how do I get in there?
  16. I just purchased my RF-35's. They were said to be new by an un named distributor (they are authorized via Klipsch). I won't name them because I don't know if it is their fault, and I don't want to ruin their business as the guy is extremely easy to work with, and a great find for an online retailer. Last night, one of the speakers on the RF-35 started to sound muffled. I have literally owned this for less than a week. I got it from an online retailer, but it has a full Klipsch warranty. What should I do? Send it to the retailer, or talk to Klipsch. Thanks,
  17. Hello everyone - First off, I would like to say that I have asked a lot of questions regarding my new home theater/stereo system, and I would like to thank everyone on here who has helped me along the way. My theater just arrived. I am amazed with the sound quality. I have 2x Klipsch RF-35's, RC-35, and 2x RS-62's. Currently, I am using a POS Sony subwoofer. It sucks. I can just turn up the RF-35's real loud and cant even tell it's on. While the sub worked well for my previous setup, it just can't hang with my new Klipsch powerhouses!!! I love them! My question is this.... I know Klipsch reccomends the RW-12 for this system, but for one they aren't in production anymore and I don't want to have to wait to find one on Ebay or Craigslist. Also, I figure there is something that would either sound better OR at least sound really good for less money. What I want from you guys is to findout what sub you think I should go for. Brand isn't relevant. I LOVE LOW, DEEP BASS - but on the other hand, I love tight, crisp bass as well. I have 2 15' Kicker Solobaric L7's in my car, so if you know car audio, 2 of those in the back of a cadillac will crush your brain. I don't expect my home setup to come anywhere near the power of those (on a side note, would there be any way to have your vision significantly blurred in your home? ). While I don't have a budget limit, I am expecting to spend around 500 bucks or something near it. Is there anything you would reccomend for me? How does Klipsch's subs stack up with the competition? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
  18. Thanks for the reply. Is anyone out there using these speakers with a similar setup? I ended up going thru with it. They will be here Monday so I guess only time will tell.
  19. Will the RS-62 surrounds be overkill wth RF-35 fronts? I am getting them for the same price as the RS-35's. Thx
  20. after hearing the various responses, I have decided to order the RS-52s online. I got 2 RF-32's, 2 RS-52's and 1 RC-32 for 1200 brand new from an authorized dealer. Good deal or what!
  21. after hearing the various responses, I have decided to order the RS-52s online. I got 2 RF-32's, 2 RS-52's and 1 RC-32 for 1200 brand new. Good deal or what!
  22. Hello all, I am looking to purchase either some RF-62's or RF-82's tomorrow. The place where I'm going to get them only carries the RS-42 for surrounds. They have the RB-61's though. My question is would the bookshelf's work good for surrounds? Better than the RS-42's? What about some of the S-2's or S-3's. I am going to buy in the mornin so any imput is MUCH appreciated. Thanks
  23. Right now I have about 1200 invested into the F-2's C2 and S2's. If I go the F-3 system route, it will only cost 50 more for the s-3, I will probably stick with the c-2 and the f-3's are a few hundred more. I make a lot of money so I'm not that concerned with the budget, but I don't need the most "high end" equipment. I just want to make sure the next step up isn't an amazing difference. I don't mind spending a bit of extra money for a huge increase in performance. If the step above f-3 is a new world, I would really want to get it. If not, then I will probably stick with the F-3
