  1. I thought I might throw in a "non-expert" opinion here. I own a pair of rf-82's which are similiar I think. I agree with previous advice on placement and avoiding any type of enclosure, those rear ports need to breathe to get the proper bass output. Also, jacksonbart hit on something I think might be helpful. I run a Denon-3808 which has a restorer function, which basically is meant to boost bass and treble lost on compressed signals from mp3s. I have been much happier with the sound quality using this setting, even on cds(mostly anyways, some recordings sound too boomy with this turned on, but most give me the punch I love to feel hit me in the chest). Do you have any function available on your pre-pro? Any EQ you can play with?
  2. I would think that having the rear ports blocked by the cabinet would seriously reduce your bass output. I think you will be disappointed in the sound quality. Do you have any other options? Those 82's really need to breathe for their sound to come through.

    7.1

If you go with a 7.1 or 6.1 setup, most recievers have a setting that will force sound to all the rear surround channels even if the source is only 5.1.
  4. O.K.....I can't stand it anymore....I have to throw in my opinion. If you want Bluray, go buy a bluray player and bluray movies. I you want HD-DVD, then go by a player and the movies to go with it. If you really think that streaming video is the way you WANT to go(notice I didn't say what was best or possible) then fine, don't purchase any of the available formats. Use your purchase to cast your vote. Quit waiting for the battle to be over so you can choose to be on the winning side. It is the customers purchasing power that will ulitmately decide the outcome, and customers such as us in this group that are dragging their feet to purchase one or the other format that is truly dragging this on. O.K.....I feel a little bit better now. Why are we all so crazy on this subject anyway???
  5. I would recommend a matching set of f-2's. Having matching front and rears yields a very balanced sound.
  6. My understanding of "Display Port" is that it will be used for computer video\audio connections, not TV?
  7. I have reference RF-82, and RC-62 in front and a pair of synergy F-2s for surrounds in the rear and I personally think they blend beautifully. Keep the RC-62, it's an awsome center channel.
  8. There may be differing opinions on cables, but in my opinion when it comes to digital optical cables , brand name etc. makes no difference. It is passing digital information, quality of sound will not be affected by different cables. However since you will be using an optical cable vs. HDMI you will not be able to use the lossless PCM audio on blueray, you will be stuck using dolby digital, optical cable does not have the bandwith to support the newer audio formats on blueray. I recently upgraded my monitor to a 1080p plasma. I thought the same theory was true to hdmi cables as it is with optical cables(digital info is unaffected by brand, price of cable), the salesguy at BB talked me into purchasing new hdmi cables, he stated older hdmi cables may not have enough bandwith to support 1080p. I did go ahead and get new cables, but I am still not sure about the truth of this. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than I will chime in and can clarify this.
  9. Thanks for the input guys. I've already given the wife this "gift idea"
  10. I do not have klipsch horns but I do have the 3808ci. Regarding 2 channel playback it offers "direct mode" which turns off any tonal adjustments, and "pure direct" which even turns off the lights of the reciever and any other gadgetry which might possibly interfere with the signal. I run RF-82's on it and it sounds great.
  11. Yes, I would be looking at another RT-10d. I guess I was looking for a completely balanced sound, although I can barely percieve the sub coming from one side of the room(I think the rear firing radiators help smooth it out). As far as output goes I could just turn up the volume. I guess I was just looking for opinions from those who have or have tried dual subs whether it was worth the added cost.
  12. I am looking for opinions out there on whether investing in a second sub is worth the cost? Is there a big difference in sound quality in music, movies? My current setup: RF-82's for mains RC-62 for center F-2's for surrounds RT-10d for sub Denon 3808ci AVR
  13. Thanks for the advice people, I missed the figure on the last page.
  14. If you run the autosetup, it should set these for you. I am running a Denon 3808ci with RF-82s for mains, RC-62 for center, F-2's for surrounds, RT-10d for sub. All speakers are set to large except the RC-62 is set to small. All crossovers are set to 40 except the RC-62 is set to 60(I am not positive but I think the speakers set to large are not affected by the crossover settings, only the speakers set to small).
  15. What is the proper way to connect this sub to the reciever? I have a Denon-3808ci which has a single line out for the subwoofer. The connection on the back of the RT-10d has a left and right input. I have tried it with just the left or right connected to a single monster cable sub wire, but I am unsure if I am recieving full input this way? I purchased a rca jack splitter but have had intermittent sound issues(signal cutting out completely).
