  1. I did the same for my Choruses. I have the glass directly on the wood. Is that a problem? Should there be cork, or silicone spacers between the glass and the wood?
  2. I just picked up a B&K Pro 5 preamp and need advice on a decent and affordable power amp to use with my Choruses. I have been using an HK 730 with them.
  3. I had not watched Senior and Paulie in a long time, but when I saw that they were going to build a Klipsch bike, I had to tune in. I would have liked more on Klipsch, but they created a nice ride. It was too bad they couldn't fire it up for the crowd.
  4. After joining the Forum and reading tons of comments, I found a pair of '89 Choruses from a member who offered them at a very fair price. Initially, I was looking for Fortes, but I could not resist getting as close as I could to Cornwalls. To power the Choruses, I went the vintage Harman Kardon HK _30 route. I landed an HK 630 which, after a going over by an HK certified tech, sounds clean and sweet with the Choruses. The combo sounds especially good with acoustic instruments and voices. It is an economical way to get into heritage Klipsch with plenty of future upgrade potential for getting into tubes.
  5. Fantastic responses! Thanks to all. I will be looking out for your recommended amps. Newer used models versus rebuilt vintage is an intriguing question.
  6. With two kids in college and one getting married soon, I should probably not even be asking, but... Last year I moved up from Heresys (bought new unfinished) to Choruses (used OW beauties). To power them I went with the HK 630, then later the 730. I usually labor over purchases for a long while. Now is my time to start planning for a move to tubes. However, I need to walk before I run. Money is definitely an object (of concern). What advice can any of you give? Please don't get too technical with specs. My knowledge is limited, but I have been around a little. It was almost thirty years ago when I graduated from Small Advents to the Heresys. When Forum members write about the quality of '70's audio equipment, I remember, because I was there! Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. [*-)]
  7. I asked the same questions you are asking several months ago. Input from Forum members helped me decide to look for Forte IIs. While I was communicating with a Forte II seller (not a Forum member) who took forever to respond about getting together, a great Virginian in the Forum offered a beautiful pair of oiled walnut Chorus Is. He auditioned them for me and compared them to his Cornwalls and LaScallas with vintage Mac amps. I have to say the Cornwalls were the champ, but the Choruses held their own. Those babies are playing as I type this. I am powering with an HK 730. I am extremely happy with the sound. If you are getting your first pair of vintage Klipsches, Fortes, or Choruses, you will be happy. Anyway, you will not have the other speakers there to compare, so just sit back and smile! []
  8. I recently bought the HK 630 on eBay. It sounds sweet with Choruses I just "adopted" from a great Forum member, dp1954. The problem is that when I connected a t-wire antenna to test the FM reception, it still sounded like there was no antenna. The signal was very weak and as I turned the tuner knob, there was also static. Any ideas?
  9. From reading other posts, I know this opens a big can of worms. I have a Dual 506 from around 1980. I have not used it for several years. It works fine, but needs a new cartridge and stylus. I am not confident about replacing those myself. Getting a Music Hall MMF-2.1 would be great, but I just can't swing a new one right now, or maybe even a used one. On eBay, I have looked at a Dual 1218 refurbished by "Bohhey" and an inexpensive Sony PSLX250H as well as a basic Denon DP-29F. I am at the beginning stages of getting a vintage system together. Through the forum, I think I have found a pair of Chorus I's as the foundation. I would appreciate guidance on other's experience in getting back into vintage and vinyl without breaking the bank.
  10. Thanks for replying. Chorus in W/O sounds very interesting. That is a doable drive. Can you send more details and price? If you prefer to email me directly here is my email address. youngjj@ctc.net
  11. I would love to find a nice pair of Chorus II's. I have been emailing a possible seller of Forte II's, but that is not moving along. I am in the southeast US.
  12. I bought the 630. Thanks for your tip. It should arrive tomorrow. Can't wait.
  13. If you don't mind, wait a couple of days. I will probably bid on the 630. I think the 930 will go too high. Thanks.
  14. Great suggestions. Thanks. Is there any way to do it by opening the back and gently pushing it out, or can it not be reached?
  15. Thanks for the input. I found a 930, too. What are your thoughts about 430 vs. 630 vs. 930?
  16. Any advice on dented passive radiators in a Forte II? Can they be "undented" safely, or is it not a big deal? A pair I am considering buying has some dents.
  17. I am talking with a seller about buying a pair of Forte II's. I would like to buy decent used electronics to use with them, but with two kids in college I have to be frugal right now. Tubes are clearly the preference, but it sounds like they are not necessarily the only way to go. Some forum posts have said good things about the HK 430 SS receiver and others about Marantz SS products. On eBay I have been watching SS Marantz receivers and amps (2238b, 2245, 1060), the HK 430, as well as tube amps (HK A 250 and A300, Scott 200B, 222D and 299A, Fisher KX 200, Sherwood S5000). HELP!! I don't know which way to go. I want the system mainly for music. OTOH, with a pair of Heresys in the house already, I could also consider a HT receiver. The more I read, the more confused I get.
  18. I posted in "Garage Sale" and a kind Forum member suggested posting here, as well. After hours of reading posts from you guys, I joined the forum to get re-connected to the Klipsch world. I bought a pair of Heresy's thirty years ago that are still great. Since then, raising three beautiful daughters has taken a lot of time, energy and money. There is still some college and two weddings to handle, but now I am looking to add more horns to the house. Based on reviews, price and space considerations, I would like to find a nice pair of Forte II's within a reasonable driving distance. I have been watching the Forums, eBay, Audiogon and craigslist. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  19. Thanks for the input. That unit on Audiogon looks sweet. The one I have seen online looks just like it, except for needing some cleaning and the model number. It is being sold from an estate. I emailed questions to the seller. By the way, this will be wedding #2. One down, two to go.
  20. Anyone familiar with this HK tube amp? I am considering one as a first tube amp for me. With two daughters in college I am looking for something reasonably priced. There will also be a wedding next summer. I must be a little crazy for doing this now.
