  1. I own the complete THX-Ultra2 setup. I have speakers and the sub amp. I haven't bought my preamp or amplifiers yet. I WILL BE USING CROWN PRO AUDIO AMPLIFIERS. Why? Because I want to setup the most in insane system possible. I do some custom installation work and figure this is good way to spotlight my abilities. I NEED HELP SELECTING AMPS. SETUP #1- I will buy 4 amps + plus the klipsch sub amp (front LR, center, side LR, rear LR) SETUP#2 - I might buy 5 amps (L, C, R, side LR, rear LR) SETUP #3 - I might just go INSANE and buy 7 amps and run each speaker with their own. Here are the specs of the speakers: KL-650-THX: 150 w max continuous (600 w peak) KL-525-THX: POWER HANDLING: 100 w max continuous (400 w peak) KA-1000-THX Amplifier: 500W into 8 ohms, 1000W into 4 ohms I will be using CROWN XLS series amps. They are powerful and relatively cheap. XLS 1000 8ohm 215W 8ohm mono 700W about $300 XLS 1500 8ohm 300W 8ohm mono 1050W about $325 XLS 2000 8ohm 375W 8ohm mono 1300W about $400 XLS 2500 8ohm 440W 8ohm mono 1550W about $500 IF I DECIDE TO PUT MONO AMPS ON EVERY SPEAKER.... XLS1000 is the most I need?? or for another $25 do I put the larger amp on the front LCR. Whats your opinion. Opinion on what amp to buy and in what configuration. Or I can bi-amp... but havent done any of that before
  2. Have the Klipsch THX Ultra II speakers. The side suround are dipoles. They are all horn driven. The klipsch manual and most of what I read online says to put the side surrounds about 6' off the ground. Well above the ears of the seated listeners. But the Dolby page says to place "just above ear level" and shows the side and rear speakers on floor stands that would put them inches at most above seated ear level. So.. i know its been asked before.. and YES.. i did read through all those old posts... I have read enough on the side surrounds to say that they should be 6' off the ground But what about the rear sorrounds???? http://www.dolby.com/consumer/setup/speaker-setup-guide/index.html
  3. The wire that come with my subwoofers says 12/2.. but inside there are 4 wires. Can someone that understands Neutrik explain why?? KW-120-THX subwoofers (2) KA-1000-THX subwoofer amplifier
  4. Hi everyone! Im still working out the plans and purchases for my ht project. I have the klipsch thx ultra II setup. I bought 700' of monster cable 12/2 cl3 rated. I got a steal and paid under $200 for the lot. Since I have a lot of extra wire I decided to BI-WIRE the speakers. I dont have amps yet but will likely buy into some crown. This is my first high end ht system, so I am taking baby steps and trying to get this all worked out right. Is there any reason to buy banana connectors? Dont spade connectors work better, provide more surface area, and also fall out less frequently? Also, when I bi-wire the speakers, should I twist up a pair of those 12 ga wires and insert them into a SINGLE spade or should I stack two spade connectors on top of one another on the amp side of the wires? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP
  5. I decided to wire with 12/2. I got a deal on some Monster Cable OMC 12/2 CL3 wire. I bought some partial spools and paid the same as what the generic 12/2 would have cost. I didnt pay anymore.
  6. Good read/ I feel SMARTER now. But my runs arent that long and I would want to use romex for my speakers. But it also says in plain english to buy the cheapest 12/2 you can find, that the cheapest is the same as the most expensive. But still... back to the original question. I can bi-wire using 14-4 for the same price as wireing using 12-2. Which is better?
  7. My cable runs are Front LCR 25' ea Side LR 45' ea Rear LR 45' ea Speakers are Klipsch THX Ultra II. They are bi-wire ready. There are four posts with a removable metal plate/
  8. Should I use 12/2 or BI-WIRE my speakers using 14/4. The 14/4 cable is cheaper!! I came across a rep at STRAIGHT WIRE that suggested I look into 14/4 wire instead of the 12/2. Initially he suggested for me to bundle the 14/4 into two channels but when I pointed out that my speakers were bi-wire capable he liked that idea better. We went as far as to suggest that 14/4 bundled as two channels was equal to approxilately 11/2 worth of awg. I have Klipsch THX Ultra II setup. So if its cheaper to bi-wire my system using 14/4 would there be any benefit one way or another???? Ive already decided to go with the Monoprice cable or whatever I can come up with cheap online.
  9. With 13 votes against the Monser PRICED cable I think I understand the direction I need to go. But in my research for lower priced alternatives I have come across Monoprice, Blue Jeans, generic 12/2, and many others. So if the price is the SAME... then how do I pick which cable to buy? Isnt there some science to the STRAND QUANTITY? Or is all of that snake oil? THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR REPLY. This is the first forum I have ever posted to where all the replies were straight forward and honest.
  10. Also.. what do you think about bi-amping the speakers with those crown amps? (7 crown amps instead of 4)
  11. Hi. I am about the purchase amps for my THX Untra II system. I had my eye on the same processor, amps, etc. Im wondering if you regret your decision to use the Klipsch amp for the subs? I havent opened the box yet.
  12. Bought th Klipsch THX Ultra II set. The boxes say that they are wired internally with Monster Cable Z-Series Custom wire. Should I track down some of the same wire to complete my install. Or should I save my money and buy
  13. Do you ever wish you had the 400 watt model of the sunfire? Considering the klipsch thx ukltra2.
  14. Sunfire AMP was 200 or 400 watts. Said SUB, meant to write amp. Sorry. Woud the addition of another paid of klipsch subs + klipsch sub amplifier be SICK? The system already has 2 subs. Has anyone tried 4??
