  1. Gary Thanks for checking, but yes i have checked the tweeters and everything is fine. It really is just certain recordings that are the problem, the trouble is its my favourite ones !! Thanks Alan
  2. Hi I know that Deep Purple and ELP are not the best recordings, what surprised me though was how lifeless a great recording of the real pictures by the CSO sounded, that really shocked me. I will check out Cornwalls, they might well suit my tastes better. Alan
  3. Hi After further listening, it is the music. The problem is that i appear to be like badly recorded music !!! I just cant imagine the rest of my life only listening to diana krall !!!! By the way these are for sale now at $2900 which i believe is s good price for a quick sale. Pick up only in South West Chicago burbs Alan
  4. Hi They were actually on craigslist for $25 Surprised nobody else spotted them !! Alan
  5. Hi The Onkyo is a great receiver, it will sound fantastic. It is s very powerful amplifier they are real watts not bestbuy watts. If you have not already purchased the receiver check out Amazon, their price is unbeatable, it was $573 last time i bought one for a friend. Ive got the SR875 which is acoustically the same just has slightly better video and its the best receiver ive ever owned, its blows the denons out of the water $ for $. Alan
  6. Hi Im not sure if i am acting to quickly. To be honest im not a patient kinda person. I just know that im not going to fall in love with the sound of the khorns, the biggest thing i missed on my auditioning of them was listening to good recordings, i should have paid more attention to bad material. Alan
  7. Hi Email me at Alaneden72@aol.com for a price. The only thing is that i see your in Utah and im not really prepared to ship these, they will need to be picked up. Thanks Alan
  8. Jeff Thanks I really do appreciate the help and friendliness shown by everyone on the forum. The bottom line though from what im hearing is that ive made a mistake buying these khorns and they are not the right speaker from me. I do not want to offend anyone at all and im not knocking the Khorns, they are a fantastic product. The thing is when i have to start selecting music and crossovers to match my speakers something is wrong. So once again i really thank everyone for their time but they will be up for sale in the Chicago area if anyone is interested. Thanks Alan
  9. Dean What your saying does make sense. The thing that is missing most of all is the sense of scale, dynamics and energy that i was expecting. I cant play at very loud volumes but i was still not expecting this flat sound. Im assuming that BEC could supply a pair of Type A networks to try, Bob what would the cost for a drop in pair be ? id like to avoid any serious rewiring changes of course in case it didnt work and I wanted to go back before selling. Im sure just temporary wiring would do fine to try things out. Thanks Alan
  10. Im in Chicago South West burbs In does seem to be honest that everythng is working fine, i can hear the highs OK. We got onto the tweeter issue because of an overall lifeless sound. I think that is just the sound that is to be expected and ive just made a mistake in not reasearching and auditioning more closely. I know that I could i put EQ in the line but i hate the thought of having $10,000 worth of speakers and equipment running through a $99 EQ box adding all sorts of things to the sound. The other problem with EQ is that it really needs to be tweaked from song to song to get it perfect. Thanks Alan
  11. Tom They are snug in the corners, i was referring to testing the drivers when i mentioned the bass sound, obviouslt they were pulled out to get to the back at that point. The bass im referring to is say a rock drummer, i was expecting soome punch and feel to the drums, another would be say a kettle drum. Im listening to things like Pomp and Circumstance and Pictures at an Exhibition if your familar with those peices. I was expecting large Orchestral peices to really jump It could be that they are just more accurate and lean compared to a small floorstander, they do seem to be a little bit better with albums than CD's. If thats the case then i dont think ill get along with them long term, they just dont at the moment sound very musical. Alan
  12. Bob Ive heard Khorns before at dealers and from memory they have the sound described. What i cant figure out is the lack of scale and excitement in the music, what could be causing that ? Is there anything in the setup or cabling that could be overlooked ? Is there any form of interaction between the Khorms and an amp that could be taking place ? Could it just be really bad acoustics in the room ? Thanks Alan
  13. Brac They might well be back for sale if i cant work out the sound !!! Someone will get a great deal. Alan
  14. Bob Thanks for taking the time to help I do like a bright sound, my previous speakers are only a few months old and are working fine. Whats missing in the sound is the energy, I thought from previous auditions that the khorns sounded like live music with the dynamics of sound to go with it. Thats the sound im searching for, It just does not seem to be there on anythimg powerful, the delicate stuff sounds fine but anything more sounds dead and lifeless, i was expecting a live rock guitar to jump out, a live drum kit sound to be sharp. Im just not getting that sound. Am i off track with my expectations ? to put the sound another way, it almost sounds liek a great bookshelf speaker. Where the sound is very clear and detailed but with no body or life behind it. Should i try a different amplifier ? Alan
  15. Hi I did hook up the tweeters but at extremely low volume. They appear to be working fine. I reassembled everything and then listened to the system, im not sure if anything is wrong or I just dont like the sound. The sound seems fine on things like vocals, piano etc but as soon as i go to something more rock or orchestral in nature it just sounds flat and lifeless. I went back to my old speakers, and they sounded a lot more lively, more bass, presence and attack. I was expecting the khorns to have a lot of life and energy, this is what i thought id heard in previous auditions of them, it could just be that my room is just not right and that they just dont match acoustically. i dont really know the way forwards, i have the best intentions to get good sound but it just does not seem to work out !! Alan
  16. Hi The people i purchased the speakers from suggested hooking the tweeter up directly to the amplifier ( at low volume ) and see what i heard. Is this a good idea ? Alan
  17. Tweeters measure 5.7 & 6.3 ohms Mids measure 11.0 and 11.2 If im playing music how much actual sound would you expect the tweeter to put out ? should it be clearly audible ?
  18. It appears as if I do have the AK4 crossover and it also appears to be wired correctly Any thoughts on next step ?
  19. Hi Dumb question I cant seem to get the pics onto a reply, how do you do that ? Thanks
  20. Hi Please see pics, apologise for the poor quality
  21. Hi I tried listening to the drivers independently and this is what i found. 1 - It seems as if the majority of the sound is coming from the midrange horn, when i unplugged the midrange wires you had to really strain to hear anything out of the tweeter and even then it was muted and didnt sound sensible. You had to put your ear actually to the tweeter to even hear anything. 2 - The bass sound is there but doesnt sound good, I think this might be a function of the speakers being away from the wall though. I think i need to get in and check out the crossover assembly, is that behind the speaker terminals ? im assuming I will have to remove the side grill to get at the screws ? Thanks Alan
