  1. Does the RC52 come with "feet" to angle or tilt it downward?
  2. This whole project is crazy! I am basically covering an old brick wall w/built in fireplace. I am going to leave the fireplace (roughly 43x50) and cover it with some stone. Since I will have this "false wall", there will be room to do the center as a built in with enough depth. I am just worried it will be too high. If I am going with a 50" tv and centering it on a 13' wall, how should I place/distance my fronts?
  3. I am working on the dimensions for my H/T wall that will house my A/V equipment. I know that it is ideal to have the center speaker under the tv set, but that may not be possible for me. I have a fireplace that is 43" up from the floor. I want to mount the center speaker above the fireplace and then the tv above that, but the tv will be way too high. We would have to look up to watch. Can I mount the tv set above the fireplace, and then put the center speaker above the tv and angle it downward towards the viewing area? The top of the speaker will be about 84" from the floor. Is this absolutely nuts? It may be hard to picture, but I don't think I have any other options for center speaker placement.
  4. I am currently looking at the new Pannys. Can anyone help me with the differences between the PZ85U and PZ80U? Aside fro the contrast ratio, I can't find too many differences in the specs. Any recommendations?
  5. Thanks Amy. The Jamo speakers will be installed in the LR (21x13) DR (15x12) and Kitchen (21x13). I am going to run them through my Onkyo TX SR705.
  6. Can anyone give me some advice on Jamo speakers? I have been given a recommendation to install Jamo 6.5 K4's in my LR, DR, and Kitchen. I don't know much about them, but they'll run me about $315/pr. Is this a good speaker and worth the money? Can I get something comparable for a little less expensive?
  7. I may have posted in the wrong section so forgive me in advance. I am looking for a rack or cabinet to house my audio equipment and need some help. I am building a wall to cover up an old brick fireplace, and would like to build in a rack or cabinet. I have some flexibility with the dimensions, but here are my problems: 1) Most racks I have found are floor standing and therfore will be built in around the top and 3 sides, but not the bottom because of the legs. 2) Most cabinets do not provide for some "overhang" on the sides to build up flush to the drywall. I would prefer something without a glass door, and thought a built in rack would look sweet, rather than just building shelves into the drywall. I know this may sound confusing, (I am not quite sure what exaclty I am looking for), but I was hoping for some help on where to find something.
  8. I beleive the Sub 10 is a downfiring sub, so I don't think I can build around it.
  9. Can anyone lend some advice? I am meeting with my contractor on Friday!
  10. I am going to be walling off a brick wall in my FR that houses a fire place, and put another wall about 12 inches in front of this "false wall" to house wiring. I am going to cut out a shelf for my RC52 so it will be built in, and realize that my RF52's will have to remain on the floor. I don't want to build my fronts into the wall. My question is, can I "enclose" my Sub 10 by cutting out a square in the wall (there is more than 12 inches of depth in the corner) and doing a built in for my sub? Will this affect aduio quality? I am trying to free up some floor space. If I can get away with it, I would like to build the sub in to the wall. I seem to remember seeing pictures of someone doing this on the forum not too long ago.
  11. Thanks sro, I did read the several responses already posted. I guess my question should be WHY is an HD DVD player playing SD DVD's better than a SD DVD player that upconverts? I have no intention of buying HD DVD's and am waiting for BR to come down in price.
  12. Okay, so help me out with this. How much different is the picture quality of a SD DVD played on an HD DVD player opposed to a SD DVD player that has 1080p upconversion?
  13. I realize that the Toshibas that have been referenced have been about HD DVD players. It is my understanding that an SD player that upconverts to 1080p via an HDMI connection will provide an exceptional picture, just a step down from BR. Am I mistaken? Should I be looking at the soon to be defunct HD DVD player to give exceptional quality for a SD DVD?
  14. After reading all of the responses, here is my question. . . If I don't want to shell out the $400 yet for a BR, but want the best possible picture quality with a SD DVD going to a Panasonic 1080p plasma tv, what could I go with? Should I opt for a Toshiba that upconverts to 1080p for $70- $80? Sorry to add to the confusion.

    HT Set-up Help!

I have no problem doing the HT in the family room, but I may put some speakers in other rooms and don't really want to mess with the additional wiring around the rest of the house. Can I assume that a 1.3 HDMI cable at monoproce will be just as effective as some of the Monster cables for 10x the price?
  16. I am closer to the installation of my new HT system and had a few questions about the connections. Since we will be rennovating the room, I am going to have an A/V guy come in and do the wiring before the drywall is installed (on a rec from my contractor). My system is listed below, and my question is about the cables. I know that the speaker wire depends on the distance. The sides will be about a 30ft run and the rears will be about a 45ft run. While the installer is a professional, I just want to make sure that things are being done correctly. 1) What guage of speaker wire, and does it have to be the most expensive kind. I know there have been endless speaker wire debates and I don't want to begin another one! 2) For the best A/V connections, I am guessing that HDMI 1.3 cables should be used. Again, do these have to be the most expensive. I remember reading somewhere that you can get good HDMI cables for $10-$15 depending on the length needed, opposed to Monster and others that run close to $100. I just want to make sure that if the installer will be providing some materials, I don't get taken to the cleaners. Thanks for any advice.
  17. Just trying to generate some responses! Can anyone provide some input on in-wall speakers? Thanks.
  18. These in wall speakers will not be for my main H/T system. They'll be used for a little background music in a few rooms. Anyone?
  19. I upgraded from the Quintets to the RF52, and yes to me there is quite a difference. When I had the guy at the store turn up the RF52, I actually asked him if only the fronts were turned on! Yes, I felt they sounded very good by themselves. I know there is bigger and better, but I was quite pleased when testing them out. I paid $520 for a pair of RF52 at ABT Electronics. The sale price is not on their website, but you can call and get the in store price (local for me). They also had the RC52 on sale that I picked up for $215.
  20. I may be off here, but I know that the the fronts are supposed to match the center. Even though the C-2 sounds brighter and gives more punch, it may not match up accoustically with the quintet fronts. Of course your ears are what really matters. What about using one of the extra center speakers for a rear speaker in a 6.1 set-up?
  21. Okay, so I haven't moved yet and therefore I have not started the work in my new house yet, but I am planning ahead (as I tell my wife). My family room system will be an Onkyo 705, RF-52, RC-52, Quintet III sides and rears, and a Sub 10. (room 26x13) I think I am going to get a pair of HS-1 outdoor speakers that I just found for the blowout price of $100. So here is where the fun comes in! I was at a buddies house last night, and he showed me how his system is wired for several different rooms. I got to thinking about doing this, but did not want to spend a ton of money. I know Klipsch makes several in wall speakers, and I wanted something small to play music in the following rooms: Play room (15x13) Dining room (15x13) Kitchen (23x13) I don't think I need something large to blast out tunes, and I saw the smaller KHW-5 on sale at Vanns for $100. QUESTIONS: 1) Is this a good in wall speaker to play some background music in the aforementioned rooms? 2) Is it silly to buy these in advance, without having yet consulted my A/V guy who will be helping with the install? I want to take advantage of a great deal, and this seems like one! Any advice will help!

    Outdoor Speakers

Is the HS-1 a decent outdoor speaker for a patio area? It's hard to beat that price for a Klipsch product. I'll have the outdoor speakers running from my soon to arrive Onkyo 705.
  23. I am not looking to spend a huge amount of money, and don't need a ton of power (am I allowed to say that here?). I saw the HS-1 at Amazon for $116, down from a $200 retail. Any advice?
  24. My HT guy and several forum members sold me on Onkyo, although I got the 705. The 805 is on sale at Vanns for 650 and you get an Ipod adapter. You have to put the unit in your cart to get the sale price (no shipping).
