  1. If you take any pro theater horn system and put it into your home
right out of the box you will have to use some form of eq to get it
right. That does not make it wrong or in any way inferior. How do they sound in the theater? It is a different tool for a different job. Does that mean you can't use it in the home? No you just have to do a little more work. The same goes for other brand pro horns. Also does it really
matter if you are doing the eq in the crossover be it passive or
electronic for home or pro environment? I imagine PWK
was in favor of delivering a product to his customers that needed the
least amount of tone controls or preferably none. Didn't PWK use a little eq in his crossovers for home products?
The 402 510 and a few other horns are being used by horn enthusiast to complete various
systems which I think is very cool. These horns also happen to sound great. There are
many more pro products that could be really cool in the home for someone willing to invest the time to make it work. I wouldn't mind giving a couple
KPT-415s a try I bet it could shake the rafters.

    I'd love
to know what PWK would think of people using MWM systems in their homes
with modified tractrix horns in two way configurations. We will never
know this of course. I did tell an ex klipsch employee about this and I
got a big long belly laugh out of him. Don't think he really believed me
until I showed him the pics which only made him laugh harder. He
thought it was great yet insane.

I think this is a very good point, nicely said Seti[Y]

  2. Thanks to Harry and Art I have a different site to spend money on...

    THANKS GUYS...... Yes

    James

I was going to say, they both hit it right on the nose. Sorry James your site had the belts about 15.00 higher, so saving that 15.00 I can buy some record cleaning suplies.[Y]

  3. Klipsch.... the only speakers I have ever owned since 1971 that did NOT any "extra" require bass, treble, etc tone controls, loudness switch useage, etc.

amen to that, not that Klipsch were or are the only speakers I have ever owned, but the only speakers I have ever owned that don't need tone or bass control knobs. Mine are all flat or at zero. Thanks for great post.
  4. The tweeter diaphragms I have been getting for my k-77, are old stock so I don't know if that could be a problem. But the first time I replaced them both, I just purchased the speakers and both were out. The second time I think it was a spike in the system, but like I said I don't if it was because they were old stock from 10 years and maybe there is some dry rot or something like that.

If I get spunky maybe I will try switch from r-l and see what happens. Maybe it is time for the crites c-125.

  5. To check if it's wired out of phase check for the painted dot on the k77 and make sure the red wire corresponds to the red dot on the tweet.

What tweeters do you have in your CWs Nick? (M or V)

Square magnets, and I am pretty sure I matched up the red dot to the red wire, I am just worried that I might have set the diaphragm wrong.

  6. Larry you hit it right on the nose sorry about the goofy explanation of the history. About a year ago I replaced both, here recently the right went out so I replaced it for the second time. If that makes any since. I will wait about a month to see if I notice any difference, if not I think the left one is out of phase, or maybe something is wrong with that one too. I will take me my time a wait and see.

    Thanks

    Nick

  7. Just wondering what would happened if somehow my tweeter positive and negative got switched at the crossover or at the speaker when I wired it up. The reason I ask is it seems that the right has brighter highs than the left, I should mention that I had recently replaced the right diaphragm, and had replaced the left about a year ago. Well I replaced both and the right went out again and had to be replaced. I know some say that there is a break in period others say no. Could this be the deal.

    Thanks

    Nick

  8. When I pulled the tweeter out of my academy today to access the crossover, i noticed this magnet on hanging off the back of the tweeter it was barely on there and the way it looks it my have been glued on is like the poles are reversed like the two magnets were pushing off one another, so it needs to be centered just right. Does this need to be there and if so will gorilla glue work fine.

    thanks

    Nick

  9. No pics of you both?

Good point, you signed away your life, got married and we get no pic's of you two ? Wink

Just kidding, if you have to be in an institution, marriage is a good one. Big Smile

Here is one of the family when we signed the photographer we received free engagement pics, since we were together so long we decided to get family pics. When we receive the wedding pics I will post a better one of the two of us.

Sorry about the double post, and the really long file name

  11. Hope I wrote that right, But I have seen these digital tracking force meters that you rest the cart on and tells you digital read out of the force. Am I understanding this right, do these things work this well. Is there any good ones or ones not to look out for.

    Thanks

  12. Just to give you guys a update. After using my Rotel-402 for the last 8 or 9 months, and digging around for parts for this pat 4 or trying to decide to give that sp 8 tube preamp kit a try. I decided to put my soldering skills to a test on the pat 4 and get the replacement power caps and lots of other caps in the pc board. Alls I can say is wow what a difference what some fresh caps can do. Theres is no more hum, and the bass is nice and tight. I am quite please with this 40.00 worth of upgrades made. Plus I feel safe with my soldering skills to get that Tube preamp kit(once I sell some other stuff and save the money maybe after the wedding this month). But thanks for all your guys help. Nick

  13. By "twisting" the cartridge, what do you mean? Setup is very important for good vinyl playback. Go to vinyl engine and print out a two point protractor, if you haven't already done so. You'll be happy you did.

The tp 62 or 63 tone arm tube that is on the tp 11 tone arm allows the cartridge to twist around a little. It just looked like it wasn't quit square with the vinyl. they say to use a mirror but its still hard to tighten the head shell with out it twisting, I know how important it is to get these setup so they don't ruin the vinyl and or stylus. I will look into this two point protractor. Thanks for the tip I need all I can I have been using some off of the owners manual but that is the closest I can get it with that.

  14. Dude I am freaking out, I am listening to The Wall with a new upgraded pre amp and I am hearing stuff I never herd before. This is it the bass response, the symbols his lows detail. I don't even know if the record player is working wright, but its working for me. I think I need to twist the cart a little more square but man it sounds great.

    Nick.
