Let me be clear: commenting on the seller's Garage Sale thread is out of bounds.  If you're serious about acquiring them, then make an offer to the seller, but please, don't comment on the sale.

Bass bins (with the dual 12" woofers, as implied above) go for about double that price, new.  Two-way Jubs are about the price of a new pair of Khorns, if you want to compare prices.  The 3-way Jubs add about another $1K (US).  You can see the prices of Klipschorns on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-Klipschorn-AK5-Speaker-Walnut/dp/B000JQM14S

We can't do this here.  Start another thread and I'll be happy to respond.

That means No ! Making your negative comment about the 904 bass bin was not on topic of this garage sell thread . That's when you should have started a new thread not when its time to answer the question I ask you.

That's been my experience.  I''d use subs (horn-loaded or tapped horn ones) with the Jubs, hands down.  Crossover at 40 Hz or lower and use the subs to take you down to 14-17 Hz for music and movies.

Perhaps you should reuse the thread on that subject (IIRC).  We're kind of hamstrung in this one talking about alternatives.

Chris,  have you ever owned 904 bass bins and Jubilee bass bins at the same time so you could listen to both for comparison ?

    LMAO,

For a guy who was downsizing, this pair gives you 5 pairs of Khorns now?

    .

Actually I didn't buy these for myself. Lee W came to my house a couple of weeks ago and bought a pair of Forte ll WO. He saw all of my Khorns and said if I ever decided to let a pair go to let him know. When I saw these Thursday morning in the alert section I decided to grab them for him so I contacted the seller and bought them 6 hours later. He had 3 people try to buy them out from under me showing him pics of cash or willing to buy them sight unseen using paypal. Thank god he was one of those people who gave the first responder first crack at them. They have a scuff or two on them which will come off very easy. The owner had them for 35 years and did not oil them regularly so after I remove the scuffs I will oil them and they will look brand new.

If the Belle sounds fine, and you can unequivocally attribute the problem to the Khorns, call Klipsch and discuss it with them.  If this is an up to date used pair, why did the former owner get rid of them?  Maybe they were damaged??  If they were purchased new, from an authorized dealer, Klipsch will stand behind them.

TV broadcasts are sometimes more sibilance prone than Blu-rays or vocals on vinyl, CD, SACD, etc.

I still don’t know why your Khorns used to sound good with other amplification.  Was there an event that could have damaged them?  I’d try them with a high quality source (e.g., SACD, DVD-A, Blu-ray, or an especially good CD, but NOT TV) and vary only the amplifier.  Here is a note I wrote to you yesterday when I couldn’t post it because the forum was down.  I think it still holds:

“Is there an audio store, or repair shop, or engineer near you who could run IM, THD, clipping point, and frequency response tests on the 275?

It's interesting that it distorts when you turn it up, because, with Khorns, that wouldn't be high enough to tax your amp.  According to a Dope from Hope in January 1977, an average of 6.3 watts will produce an average of a very, very loud 105 dB at a mic that is out in a 3,000 cu foot room at a distance of about 15 feet.  Naturally, 63 watts will provide 10 dB more, or an average of 115 dB, characterized as "too damn loud" by that same Dope from Hope article.  The peak level for frequencies above about 80 Hz that THX and others recommend for Cinema is only 105 dB.

I have no idea what is wrong with your amp, if anything, but if, perchance, it is clipping at 6.3 to 63 watts, using the 8 Ohm tap, something is!

    Good luck!”

He did not have a problem until he put the MC-275 in the system .

  7. You can have both in the same room. My H/T consist of 4 Khorns and an Academy center with all Denon equipment and sounds fantastic ! When I want to listen to 2 channel I just push a button and switch to the 2 front mains only and turn on my all tube system and listen to fantastic 2 channel.

Message sent to the seller via the linked site asking for a chat.

I have been Jonesing for a listen to low power stuff. Would they fit with McIntosh C2500 pre and Klipschorns?

I must say that there are some things in the ad and seller's history and profile that raises my feelers.

I also sent a message to this seller but still no reply. The city he lives in is 20 minutes from my house.

The tape wouldn't stay on, I used chalk marks on the grill and tailboard...missed.

I have done this on 4 pair and used non stick blue 3M painters tape with no problems. I guess you just have to know your limatations.

Because I suck at carpentry and no matter how many times I measured, transcribed locations, etc I missed and the angles are not consistent. My other concern was the screw holes becoming worn when removing the enclosure. I figured even once or twice removed for accessing the wire terminals would be risky. I used 1x2 red oak and attached one mitered end to the grill supports and the other to the tailboard. Yes, I took up some volume but this way also took away the vibration of the enclosure; even at low volume the 3/4" oak ply had some when attached to the supports only.

You were suppose to put a piece of tape on the grill and tailboard then mark the center of the supports. Then put your back on and shim it up to the top. Then put matching tape on the backs, transfer the center line onto the back, mark where you want the screw holes and predrill them no tape measure needed. Ends up perfect every time. I used small headed furniture screws.
