  1. It doesn't matter to me. I've had a little Sherwood tube stereo that was nice, a little muddy but sweet. I had a Krell KAV 400i (didn't use with Klipsch) which was awesome and a vintage Sansui AU-9900 that sounded really good with it's matching tuner, but was so-so with CDs. Right now I want something that sounds really alive and sounds good playing electric guitar. I like the guitar to bite like it was recorded and not be smoothed out.
  2. i don't understand because the midrange speaker in the Heresy IIs are smaller and wouldn't fit. Sorry, I don't know much about the tech stuff.
  3. I got some KLF 20s and want to get a new integrated amp for them. I have been using the Onkyo A-9555 which sounds pretty good, not spectacular just good. I had the vintage HK 430 before the Onkyo and it was good too, but he Onkyo was better I thought. What can I upgrade to that will be a big step up from the Onkyo? It had good bang for the buck at around $350. What would be another bang for the buck and a big step up at around say $600, give or take? I listen mainly to rock and love strong midrange for guitars because I play guitar. Thanks!
  4. I checked and there doesn't seem to be any broken parts in them. I'm also wondering if it's just because I'm in a small room. I'm going to move soon so I picked up the KLFs because they were availble, but for now they stay in the small room that the Heresy's were perfect for.
  5. Hi Everyone, I was using Heresy II's with Bob Crites Tweeters, and when I hooked up the KLF-20s I just bought, I noticed the midrange was lower. It's like the guitar volume was lowered and the drums are louder. Does anyone know the reason for this? I checked all the drivers and they seem to be working. The KLFs aren't modded.
  6. I want Chorus, and I'll get them one day when move into a bigger place. Right now though I have the perfect speaker for an apartment. Maybe Heresy III is even better but these sound great to me. Crites titanium tweeters are smooth sounding btw compared to my old Heresy.
  7. I like rock mostly. Live concerts are the best.
  8. I just got a pair of Heresy II with crites crossovers and tweeters! The difference between them and my old stock Heresy I is like night and day. I'm very pleased now.
  9. I know that Klipsch love tube amps, what kind of sources do they like? Laid-back or not?
  10. I'm considering getting a beautiful pair of Forte II's, but in my little apartment I'll have to put them about 4" from the wall. Will this cause them to sound too 'bass boomy'? I usually turn the bass almost all the way down on my amp because I live in an apartment, which is fine I'm not a bass freak. If being close to wall causes them to not sound their best I probably won't get them. Also, I'm upgrading from Heresy I's, will Forte II's be a big improvement? I like the Heresy', I'm just looking for more 'liveness' and a fuller sound from the larger horn I usually listen at low volume levels, which the Heresy sound pretty good at and am hoping the Forte II will be even better.
  11. I'm thinking about replacing the caps on my old Heresy's. What about just testing the caps with a multimeter first to see how bad they are?
  12. Thanks for the reply! Somewhere here I read the improvement could only be noticed at high volume levels, which I can't do anymore. Actually I've noticed they sound better (to me) at low volume anyway, I just wanted to improve on that.
  13. Hi, I was just wondering if replacing the caps in Heresy I would cause any noticable improvement at low volume? Or replacing the tweeters?
  14. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'd like to go the Heresy II to III route but too expensive for me right now. I sure wish I knew you could do that before I bought the H1. I keep hearing about RB-5's, they must be great sounding speakers.. and may be a great match for my Onkyo A-9555.
  15. Right.. bright equipment shouldn't be matched with bright speakers. My turntable sounds fine, it has a Shure M97XE which is smooth sounding. But my digital audio is harsh, playing flacs from a Auzentech sound card. I might try changing the dac. I think Klipsch sound great though with tubes or tube-like equipment.
  16. Sure, hence the smoothness and non-shrill sound which is one reason they do well with Klipsch, which tend to be a little shrill.
  17. The Heresy's sound a lot better than the KG4's in the mid to upper frequencies, the only reason I use them is to fill in the missing bass for the Heresy's. I wouldn't use them in an apartment anyway because of the extreme bass.
  18. I'm moving to an apartment, and would like to try out a more 'refined'? sound to hear what modern speakers can do, compared to my old Klipsch Heresy I's and KG4's. The amp is a class D Onkyo, has good clarity and rolled off highs, some say tube-like. I'm thinking newer Klipsch bookshelfs, something not too bassy for the apartment. I mostly listen to rock, punk, indie, metal. Right now I've got really full dynamic range running the Heresy's and KG4's, I guess I'll have to expect a little let down there.
  19. Sounds about right to me. That was pretty much my exact reaction to a pair of RF63's I heard. Could have been the room or associated equipment, though, at least to some extent. Hey guys, I love dynamics and clarity as much as the next person, but that ain't the whole audio enchilada, ya know. I agree, sometimes I hate the shrillness. I have to turn down the volume. How are those Energy speakers working out with your Onkyo? Did you ever try any of the Klipsch bookshelf? I'm thinking about getting some since I'm moving to an apartment. People seem to rave about the RB-5. I can also get some PSB Century 300i's real cheap. It's hard to find out what speakers match good with the Onkyo A-9555 from reading on the internet. I'm guessing slightly bright and dynamic speakers.
  20. I wonder what different speakers like your RC-50 would sound like with the onkyo. Right now I'm using 4 speakers, Heresys and KG4s. I like the fullness but a higher volumes I have to turn the treble down quite a bit because of harshness, which seems to lose a lot of the music imo. Also I wonder how the KLF-20s would sound, I wish I hadn't sold them years ago.
  21. Just curious, how do those Polk sound with it? I'm going to be moving into an apartment and will probably have to leave behind my big bassy Klipsch speakers.
  22. Someone's selling black 1986 Pro Lascalas here, how do they sound? Are they just like regular Lascalas?
  23. So far it sounds pretty good. Sounds like modern SS but not too harsh, good bass. Much more detailed than my HK730. It may be too soon to tell, but it doesn't seem to discriminate too much with bad to average recordings. That's one of the things I didn't like about the HK. I can't tell a whole lot right now though because my ears are stopped up from an infection. I couldn't have come at a worse time. Did you have to turn the volume knob up a lot for it to be loud? I'm sursprised it does that with my Heresy's, on my HK you turn it up a little and it's already loud. I hope nothings wrong with it.
  24. My stuff may not be up your alley, it's pretty obscure. http://www.dischord.com/ http://www.narnackrecords.com/ http://www.cryptrecords.com/ oh yeah and http://www.matadorrecords.com/store/index.html (they raised their lp prices the jerks)
  25. I don't have any experience with re-issued vinyl, I was talking about the popular music kids listen to that they put out as more of a novelty for them. Sometimes you can tell it's going to be pretty good recording when it's on 180 gram vinyl. I still won't pay $25 for a record though, thats seems ridiculous to me. Most of the new stuff I get I order straight from the record labels at $8 - $15, usually $12.
