  1. Thanks Fish. I am going to be talking with Lonnie (emotiva) again this week. I'm really hoping this "hiss" issue can be resolved. I have the 30-day return window still available (if needed) after applying the firmware update.
  2. sorry, I'm a bit behind on following this thread. I just want to make a comment that my UMC-1 has significant audible "hiss" running through an XPA-2 to my LaScalas. The hiss is obviously much reduced when I play through my Herseys or my Polk RTi-10s. The "hiss" is heard on all input (HDMI, analog, stereo/direct modes, etc.) and is a constant level. Also, you can hear every "click" such as pressing the mute button, when a CD track changes (UMC-1 unlocking then locking onto the signal, etc.). I do not believe anyone on the emotiva forum is running a UMC-1 with Khorns or LaScalas (104db..) so I am very interested in your post of a totally "silent" UMC-1 experience. Maybe I have an actual "bad" UMC-1 unit. I have Lonnie (over at Emotiva) running some tests - or at least he said he was.. regarding the "hiss" I have reported to him. Other than the "hiss", I believe the UMC-1 (following the 1st firmware update), is a great piece of hardware considering it's low entry price.
  3. a noobie poster here... but I for one am super excited as my UMC-1 is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. unfortunately, I'll be running in 2-ch mode for a bit until I select/purchase a projector (currently looking at the ae4000) and still need to find that lonely single lascala for my center. I have Heresy's for the surround and an emotiva xpa-2 from my mains (lascalas). My xpa-5 should be shipped out 2nd week of Feb. I am hoping the long wait for the UMC-1 was worth it -- I'm sure it will be.
  4. just want to share my 2 cents .. I purchased a XPA-2 last July and have been enjoying "headrooming" my lascalas. I have been extremely pleased with this amp. I recently picked up a pair of Heresy-Is, rebuilt the xover and refinished the cabinets. I am truly amazed at the sound quality of the Heresys driving with the XPA-2 (250/ch.). Looks like I am planning something similar to InVeNtOR as I am awaiting Emotiva's release of their UMC-1 and will then pickup an XPA-3 for center & rears.
  5. I do not believe the z-hangers from Hangman (below) are as thin as Rockler but do offer a variety of sizes and grades. I have not tried any of these (yet), but will be doing so after finishing up my Hersey refinishing project so that I can flush mount on my rear wall. Good luck on your mounting. http://www.hangmanstore.com/Hangman-Products-Z-Hanger-p/z.htm
  6. Just to echo Islander's positive comments on Bob's sonicaps... I just replaced the original crossovers on my '75 LaScalas two weeks ago with Bob's TypeAA/A crossovers (sonicaps). I did an A to B comparison immediately after replacing only one crossover before replacing both. It was an extreme difference in sound between the original and new caps. In simple terms, it was as though there was a blanket thrown over the LaScala with the original caps. Now my LaScalas are singing again and I can't stop listening to them. :-)
