I received the 2 K-1050-K woofers yesterday and they were exactly as advertised, new and unused. The first thing I did was to go to the local auto parts store and buy a roll of gasket paper. Its about .020 thousands thick much thicker than the OEM gasket. The roll was 12 inches by 36 inches. I cut a 12 inch diameter by 7/16 with piece sothat it would fit on the rim of the speaker. I believe the passive woofer vibrates in reaction to the pressure created by the active woofer. Just like high quality piston rings and gaskets cause the piston to be pushed down the cylinder harder in a high performance engine so to with the passive woofer when the cabnet is sealed 100%. A passive woofer will be more efficient when the box is totally sealed. Any way, the K-1050's speakers definetly improved the low, mid, and high bass. It has a crisper sound to it and blended in quite well with the mid and high range horns. Its possible that with age and use comes fatigue, the original woofers had a softer hit with them. I am real familiar with "The Spy" by the Doors on Morrison Hotel and "Happiness is a Warm Gun" the Beatles White Album, the mid and upper bass was more pronounced. A definite improvement. Is there any truth to the rumor of the Forte 3 H.P. being released soon? ( H.P. stands for High Performence). Its supposed to contain much Formula One technology, front and rear carbon fiber panels that the drivers mount to. Zebra wood veneers, state of the art crossovers and wiring. (Hey you don't think I am trying to tell Klipsch Inc. what to do Do Ya?) I want to order mine now. I will contact BEC soon to see what he can whip up in regards to a crossover for my Forte 1.
