  1. I am putting an oiled oak Belle into service as a center channel, then putting my 65" Panasonic Plasma (150lbs) on top for viewing. Speaker is a 1980 . . . Has not been oiled since new. But, when I bought it, I saw a thick darker winding line about 4 inches wide and 12 inches Lon on the top near the front. The previous own said that when hie had them shipped in a move, the moving company got some of the packing tape directly on top of the speaker and it left some tape packing rescue on it once he unpacked them....they had been in storage for a month before he got them out. It does not look disastrous, but has darkened that area ov time with some dust collecting on the residue. My question? What can I do to get that residue off before aI recoil it for use as a cent channel? I have 400 steel wool and watch clear Danish oil, but pehat should I do get the residue off before oiling the speaker veneer that will clean it off without damaging the speaker? Thanks

  2. I had the same dilemma . . . Bought the 61s . . . Quickly new I made a mistake and should have bought the 81s. I like the 61s, but more sound out od the 81s and better resale value. Just my 2 cents. Not the end of the world, because both are great speakers. Have you thought about buying a vintage set of, like, Fortes, since you are only doing two speakers and you will be putting your bookshelves on stands anyway? And with Fortes (or even a set of original KG 4s, you will get some good thump from their woofers when you are listening to pop music too. Maybe retried to fin someone locally . . . You might find fortes or the very affordable KG 4s to do it for you.

  3. Ok guys, thanks for the input. you're right adoremusic, ive never seen any here before, I think thats why I got excited. I would prefer ones that come in this color though, but Im sure ill have to wait a while before I find them close enough

For reference, those in the pic yiu like are what look like birch lacquered with grills. The black ones in the ad are $1600 CAN, which today equals $1570.38 USD . . . Very pricey, even if rare among our friends to the North. Time and searching is our worst enemy and best friend. A great looking pair of La Scalas at an excellent price, if not out there now, will show up in time. Also, you might want to place a WTB ad on our forum in the garage sale section. There are some incredible forum partners, one who may be sitting on a pair right now, intent to sell, but who has not posted yet; or a forum member might have a friend with some La Scalas to sell. All the best in your search.

  4. Got my 4311 set up. Gonna give it some more time before I give it a review, but initial thoughts are great for movies, ok for music. Needs more tweaking I'm sure. More to come...

When you get the 4311 tweaked, you are gonna love the 82s, center, and surrounds on it with movies and music . . . An amazing AVR. I have had until recently a Reference setup very similar to yours (Rf82s, Rc62s, RS52s, RB61s) and moved from what I thought was an outstanding Pineer AVR to the 4311ci . . . Once tweaked, the 4311 woke up my Reference setup . . . Like having a new bigger system. Simply feels like the 4311 was made for Klipsch! My next move is to add some preamps.

  5. Why would anyone think the HIP-BG would not blend? It uses the same drivers has a high power handling woofer and is adept at reproducing vocals since they are quite often used on stands as part of a band's PA system.

I use a La Scala in the center between my La Scala mains and it serves as the TV stand as well and I live in an apartment! See system layout below.

I was really asking the question, "are the tweeter, mid range drivers and horns, and the woofer the same in the pro version as in the standard La Scala?". From your answer then, they must be. So what makes it a "professional" (or industrial) version? Is it just a,stronger cabinet shaped the same? This is a real question from someone still learning.

  6. Started off with RF82s, RS52s, Rb81s, and an RC62 . . . The RC62 is an outstanding center speaker for RF82s . . . The perfect match . . . But, what started happening as I began 3 1/2 years later to upgrade the fronts, then sides, then rears? The RC62 just could keep up. I was finding myself in the HT raising the RC62 to +10db and lowering my fronts to -3db to hear the center channel. I did the right thing buying the RC62 with my RF82s . . . Never nice disappointed in 3 1/2 years, and costed so much less than the 64 I was able to purchase additional stuff . . . The Rc62 matched the Rf82s and saved me some cash for other stuff . . . Until . . . 3 1/2 years later . . . I started upgrading . . . Then I know I should have gotten the RC64. Moral of the story? RC62 if you never plan to go bigger than the RF82s . . . RC64 if you ever see yourself upgrading, which we never do until we do. :-). Ask yourself, "What system will I be listening to five years from now?". If you see no changes, or you plan to repurpose you RF82s to a different room other than yur HT (e.g., game room, home office, bedroom, etc.) then get the RC62 and buy something else with the price differential from the RC64. If you are sure you will upgrade and AND STAY IN THE KLIPSCH REFERENCE LINE, then buy the RC64. You can always cycle the db level down on a 64 to work with the 82s, but you may not be able to cycle the db level up enough on an RC62 to take real advantage of larger Reference fronts . . . Believe me, it is EXTREMELY frustrating to cycle down the dbs on your new larger fronts to tune them down so you can still effectively hear your RC62 center . . . Defeats the whole purpose of buying larger fronts. If your center is ever weaker than your fronts, then you have to weaken the whole front soundstage to get balance. I never planned to upgrade, so the 62 was always perfect with my 82s; well, until that first upgrade in my fronts. ;-)

  7. I am relieved . . . We are discussing adding a third channel in the 2 Channel forum! I always wanted to ask, but wanted to not start eating a sacred cow! :-). In my HT, I have K-horns as fronts . . . I have a Belle sitting unused. I am powering my HT with an RC62 and always have to fiddle with eq to get the voices right I the RC62 trying to image with the Khorns. Even though I go +10db on the center, I have to weaken the K-horns down to -6db to get a close match. Even then, every movie is different. So, I have been thinking about moving the RC62 out, and installing the abelle as my center. I listen to 2 channel music most of the time (76%) . . . Always wondered if Imcould match a Belle as the center for both HT and 3 channel music setup since Imhave about 24 feet between my Khorns. So, for three channel music listening on my Khorns and Denon4311ci, would the Belle match up, like Edroom is proposing?

  8. Picked up these bad boys:) Now i just have to paint them black.....

    http://community.klipsch.com/forums/t/165133.aspx

So i now have two heresies. I have done my reading. I know alot of people have advised against using 2 center channels. Those that do use 2 center, im speaking about 2 heresies, love it and say it sounds amazing. Obviously i am going to try one, then both speakers and setting them up differently to figure out what sounds best. Thought i can maybe get some input from those with experience which way to set them up as center would sound best.

I think i am going to use them both vertical right bellow the TV, sitting on the little entertainment center. I read from some one that they putt one bellow and one above the tv. I am considering trying this out as well. What do you think?

    Alex

Great score, Alex . . . Try every configuration. . . See what you like best. I would try one horizontal and centered first . . . Remember, try to get it about ear level or just a hair below. That should be optimal for one. Then play and try all of the different configs from there . . . You will know what is right for you....one channell or two centers. Have fun.

  9. If you're going the Heresey route, Fyrpwr is selling a single HIP-BG in the "Pro" section. That just might be your ticket for a center channel. Yes

    http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/160745.aspx

Would the pro version really sonically match up with standard La Scalas? It does look like a great deal on a near mint pro La Scala for $450.

I have La Scalas as fronts in my music setup . . . Was looking for an Academy center, but see it is wiser to go another direction. Alex, couldn't you split a pair of La Scalas with finallygotmyheresies and use the La Scala as a center for a perfect match? You could move your electronics to the side . . Or leave just even the electronics stand in front of the center La Scala with your tv staying up high like it is since the electronics would still be low enough to block nothing more than the La Scala bass bin. Not sure how much room you have beyond the boundaries of the pic. Just a thought.

  10. If I had a pair of cosmetically or electronically challenged Cornwalls, no doubt I would transform then into Cornscala's . . . And try it on my own . . . In the end, if you did not like them (which I doubt), you have dramatically increased their value for resale to another Klipsch-maniac (like me) on this forum! Start a rebuild thread if you do . . . People on this forum would love to help!

  11. Thanks Jhoak and Speakerfritz . . . I moved too slow and just lost out on them yesterday . . . They went for $400. But I am learning . . . Now I know the difference between Cornwalls and Cornwall IIs (and verticals). Thanks also, Speakerfritz . . . Did not know they would have significantly different drivers than my La Scalas, Belles, and K-horns. Fritz, you have been watching my speaker scores, haven't you. :-) Thanks to both of you.

  12. Yup, lousy pic, but it is all I have from the owner, who is to far away just for me to pop in and check them out. If I go to buy them, I will surely open them upp and check the drivers.

There are no Klipsch badges on the grills and no stickers on the back with serials and model number.

They look like Cornwalls to me . . . but, I am still learning.

    Educated guesses?

  13. hmm. i cant seem to find the how to page on crites website. if someone could post the link that would be awesome. and i think i will go ahead and try to do it myself. im in no real rush and i would take the time to practice before i actually do it. im not a complete idiot and im pretty handy. i feel like i could learn the soldering pretty quickly from the vids ive seen on youtube. i just dont know where all the parts would need to go and how to get the old ones out etc. its not really the soldering im worried about cause i can learn that, its the actual crossover, it just looks like a bunch of wires and stuff to me right now.

    PM sent.

  14. Bought my first Heritage speakers and redid the caps myself on that pair of Las Scalas . . . ordered the kit from Crites, looked closely on his how to page, watched a couple of youtube videos on how to solder and went to work . . . have done a pair of crossovers from a set of K'horns. Really was fun learning how to solder the first time . . . just follow Mr. Crites page on how to change caps on a crossover after watching a few soldering videos, order supllies or get them at a big box store . . . and have fun!

  15. No worries. Didnt take it that way. I don't have any experience with marantz or Denon. The next time I need an avr I'll be looking at those brands just to try to open my experience. I love my onkyo but never having listened to the others I may not know what I'm missing. I can say that I prefer onkyo to emotiva with the rf7ii speakers.

Cool . . . My only AVR experiences are Harmon Kardon, Pioneer, and now the Denon 4311. Of all, the Pioneer was my best sound for straight up music. The Denon 4311ci does fine with music, but is amazing with HT. I have no experience with Onkyo or Marantx, but just about hands down, everyone says that the Marantz 7005 is amazing mix for HT and musics. I have never auditioned one. The Denon 4311ci has been on an amazing sale run, if you call the right company and so much cheaper than the Marantz othat I went Denon for the first time . . . And have not been disappointed since I was upgrading to 3d and AirPlay. I do possess both and Adcom GFA555 with a GTP 500 and a Phase Linear 400 and a 4000 . . . With the Denon, there is a way to integrate those so I get better music sound from my K-horns and Belles and La Scalas and RC62 center in my HT when I want a better music sound. I am such a noob to the Denon, I have not tried piggy backing the vintage amps. Gotta a friend I need to have I've for a cookout so that he can show me how! I am nervous to try it myself . . . Don't want to blow up speakers doing it wrong, or the new 4311. There should also be a way to piggy back my Pio TXH94 too, but I am using it in my office with Heresys, and two pair of KG4s and a KG 2.2 center. Not bragging, just the only way I know how to hook things up is straight off of one AVR. I need to figure out how to integrate the Phase Linear and Adcom lab amps, or even the two preamps too. So, I am learning! But playing it safe.

  16. Funny I used to have the same exact avr as you. Let me tell you something.... I have used 4-5 other avr's since trying to figure out what I liked best (also had the XPA-5), and until I got the 3008 (with audyssey xt32) none of them sounded any different. I have used the 3007, 709, 608, 509, HT rc-180, and recently a pioneer 1121 (never used this with the XPA-5). Also dumping my XPA-5 was an improvement IMO.... Now I have all onkyo power.

That"s wonderful . . . I wasn't capping on Onkyo . . . Onkyo is great equipment too. Just suggesting it may be a settings issue that a focused Onkyo forum might be able to help with. But, if everything is working great, then wonderful. All the best.

  17. Rhetor, I will read them just out of curiosity I might learn something new which could better my setup.

But I dont get why everyone think I have a issue, yes I posted that the measurements were wrong at first but I believe I had reposted stating that everything was correct. I understand that Audyssey is a program all on its own, but if the design a setup for certain receiver and model which the operators manual explains proper setup then what could I have done wrong. Like I said I will read the sites you posted. I don't feel I can get anything better then how this sounds, well I guess like I said I will get a tripod to properly place the Mic in the left and right seating position.

    thanks for the advice

    Duder

I did not say you did anything wrong....it just may be some receiver setting that you need to tweak, and that thread for your receiver can get that question answered more directly and more accurately. The people on that thread live for that receiver, and know its ins and outs. I ran audyssey right on my Denon, but still did not sound right. Went to the Denon thread and the gurus helped me dial the receiver in with some post audyssey tweaks.

  18. For a full setup I have to place it in three locations starting with center, then right, then left so every listening poistion gets good sound. I will say my wife doesnt complain about not being able to hear the center channel.

Then you aren't doing it correctly but good thing the wife isn't complainin'. Wink

What do you mean I am not doing it correctly. I did it per the instructions as for my Onkyo tx-nr509 place the mic in the center listening poistion it takes a reading then tells me to move it to the right side listening poistion takes a reading the tells me to move it to the left listening poistion.

You really do need to go to the forum thread tdkamerica suggested in the post above for FAQs for audyssey @ http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=795421 and this one for your receiver @ http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1322401&highlight=509. Your best place to get answers since our forum is focused on Klipsch stuff. Sure, you are in the HT thread, and will get some general info, sounds like you have an issue that needs some intense focus on your receiver and it's associated auto eq.

  19. I'm shopping for a new reciever for a 18 x 15 room powered by an Emotiva XPA-5. I use my system for 40% tv (sports mostly) and 60% movies and games. I've mostly been looking between the pioneer SC55 and the Denon 3312 but I'm open to anything. Has anyone had experiences with either powering the Rf7iis or have any recommendations?

Seriously, check this thread out on getting a discount on Denon 4311ci . . . I got one in December for my HT to replace a Pioneer Elite 94TXH . . . And it has been truly amazing on my RF 7.1 setup, and even more amazing with heritage speakers! And at a discount, wow! I started the thread in December, and it is still alive! http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=21821411#post21821411
