  1. ...with the Cornwall III, I think Klipsch should have used a bigger horn...

+1 for CF! A larger midrange horn with a crossover frequency of 500 Hz. would have made the Cornwall 3 an AWESOME speaker. In any case, I'm back to the idea of letting my Cornwall 3s go. For their size, and for their price, they just don't do what I want them to. I could go off the deep end with mods, but why bother? The resale value stays highest if they're stock.

That sounds like a good idea. It's one of the reasons Klipsch makes more than one speaker! [;)]

I use an AudioControl C101-III full octive EQ with a built in RTA.

  2. I can't afford to be an audiophile! In a world of multi thousand dollar transports & $10,000 tone arms, I am an odd lotter. What I have is solidly mid-fi equipment bought judiciously, the best piece I could afford, one at time. While I own McIntosh equipment it is used and older than some forum members, but it sounds great to me. What I am is a MUSIC fan! I have a respectable collection of over 2,000 cds that I will continue to build as long as cds are still being pressed. I probably average buying between 50 -75 cds a year.Even if I won the lottery, I would have a hard time buying a pair of $25K mono block amps, but I would have no problem waving in cds by the cartful, & I 'm talking those Costco size wagons!

    Amen Brother!!! thumbup.gif

  3. Ok, the seller brought over the second speaker tonight, so all is good in the world now. They are absolutely stunning (if you like the clear oak finish) and are pretty much flawless. Listening to a little George Benson Quartet right now and what strikes me most is the scale of the music compared to most speakers I've listened to lately.

Wow! You've done good! They are beautiful! bravo.gif

You are absolutely correct, you can not get the same "Scale" of music out of small(er) speakers.

Congratulations and enjoy the music! [<:o)]

  4. The guy says that he can afford to spend even $200/month on audio related purchases without blinking an eye! That's not in the real world in my book! Wish I had that kind of $$$ to throw around each month!!!

It's been my real world experience for a while now. My monthly budget for music has been $200 per month and I try to stretch it as far as possible.

To me, the music is the most important thing, not the gear. I've not read the article, but if audiophile means listening to the gear, not the music, I don't fit that description. It's all about the music. If the only thing I had was an AM radio, I could be happy for a long time. Without the music, the AM radio is worthless to me! YMMV.

  5. Oh Man, that's a tough one! Always take a Pick Up Truck or bigger when picking up KLIPSCH Heritage speakers! banghead.gif [;)]

Well, I guess you'll be listening to all of your "Mono" recordings until Monday, which can be great. Some of my best sounding recordings are mono! thumbup.gif

Congratulations on getting the CII, how's it sound with the Kenny?

  6. Dee, I purchased this one by Cyndy Lauper a couple of months ago. I got it on a "lark" and have grown to really like it.

I'm a fan, but this album brought me here. Wonderful songs from the great American songbook, great musicians, great guest appearances. Great everything, except the sound was way too brittle, bright and hot.

I wanted to have this album sound good so bad, I started purchased different receivers, different versions of Klipsch, different everythings. Thousands of lives and many dollars later, I realized that the engineers on this album should have been taken outside and shot. I don't know if it's compression a hot mix, whatever. Ultimately, it's a spent opportunity that simply crys out for a re-master .

I haven't listened to it in years because it breaks my heart everything I listen to it. Hopefully she used better people on her Memphis release.

    Here you go guys....

I have the CD and it stinks as far as SQ, but the DVD is great! YesYes

I picked it up on a whim in 2004 and was blown away by her vocals. This little girl can SING!!! yes.gif

If you get a chance, pick up the DVD, you will not be disapointed.

...and thanks for the heads up on "Memphis Blues", I'll add it to my list. Stick out tongue

Thanks for the tip on the DVD. I'll check it out.

You Sir are welcome! The sound quality is so much better. Which it should be! [^o)]

I think there are a few more songs also. [Y]

  7. Again, I'd rather buy surrounds and have a phantom center. You can fake a center channel, but you can't fake surrounds.

Most modern AVR's can be set to run a phantom center, so the center channel signal goes to the front L and R speakers. It actually dosen't sound bad. But, you can't fake surrounds.

So, if it were me and I was building an HT, I would buy surrounds first, then a center channel. To answer your question. NO! It's not worth it, IF you are building an HT. If you looking to listen to some of the old Phillips 3 channel CD's, then yes. For HT, NO! IMHO.

  9. Hey, Hey, great news G.C.!

As far as a center channel speaker making a difference, I think adding surround speakers will make a bigger difference first. You can always run a "Phantom" center for the time being. (Phantom means no center channel and the receiver will send that signal to the L and R mains) But, if that is a good deal on a center channel and you want to get it..... get it. You can add surrounds later.

Don't worry about asking questions, we believe there is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people who don't ask questions. [;)] We were all new once and had lots of questions too. Now we're paying back for all the help we received. [A]

  10. I had to download a file here at work and noticed it was coming across at a blazing 10 kbps!

Geeze! That sounds like my DSL. [8o|] LOL

I downloaded the Denon manual in Spanish first, then had to download the English version.

For some stupid reason, I thought the English version would be at the top of the list.... Not so! [:#]

  11. Welcome to the Klipsch Forums Greencheese, we're glad you're here!

With my Pioneer Elite Receiver, if my speakers are set to Large (in 2 channel) and "Sub On", the sub dosen't play. I have to set the Sub to "SubPlus", not just "Sub On".

Does the Denon have a setting like that? Also, if I'm listening at low levels, I have to pump up the volume for a few seconds, to get the signal to the sub, to switch it on. Then I can turn it back down and the sub continues to work.

We'll get you through this. Look over the manual about sub settings, it should address this. Maybe! LOL
