  1. NO, NO, NO. Dont get me in trouble here. This must be my initiation???? I would never call Dean a girl........................... unless he is one!! haha JK DEAN!!
  2. Yeah, I like that saying too. I may have to use that one. I'm emailing you now Dean. So........ once I learn what the new crossovers will do, the less I will know about it HHHMMMM. Kinda like women. ( No offense to our ladys out there, just saying the more we think we know women, the less we truly know I'm glad I didnt have to use all those search methods. Maybe one of those big horns like RICOLA!!!!!
  3. Do you guys think my RF 5's would benefit from a Dean Crossover makeover?I hear people talk about their RF 7's and I'm curious if I would get any benefits from the RF 5's. Does Dean still do these? How bout cha Dean, you out there?
  4. I have the Yamaha 663 and I found Flat to be my choice. Although, there really wasnt a big difference between the different settings. I think that option is more for maybe underpowered, or speakers not matched. I could be mistaken on this I dunno. The Yamaha 663 has some respectable power. It can crank pretty high. I decided to run a Crown XLS 602 pro amp just to make sure I have plenty of headroom. My RF 5's sound pretty dang mean with that Crown. I run my YPAO first, to set the EQ, but YPAO always sets my speakers where I dont want them. (Front as large, I set them on small and let the Sub handle the LF). Then I run the RS SPL meter and adjust the speaker levels with it. Have you listened to music in Direct Mode? I dont care for it although it is suppossed to send the signal untouched, with no codescs whatsoever. I find 7 channel music to be better for my ears.
  5. HAHAHA NOW THATS FUNNY! BTW What did he say???
  6. I received PM. I sent one back. Did you get it?
  7. Thanks. I will be looking for RC 7 now. Thanks for the help
  8. Speaking of such, I have lost the Klipsch logo on the front of mine. Would anybody happen to have an extra I could buy?
  9. I have the RC 3 with the RF 5 and I'm not sure I like it. I hate to mix match, but my Eosone center sounded better for the center than this RC 3. I see from reading many posts that the Academy is a good center. I may have an RC 3 for sale pretty soon. I just dont like the thought of mix matching, even though I like the other one better. I guess I should let my ears do the thinking this time instead of the thought of mix-matching. Ya know, once it gets in your head, its hard to get rid of it? I envy all you guys that have the CW, LAS, KHorns all the way around. I can only imagine how 5 of these things sound. ONE OF THESE DAYS!!! Do any of you guys have a 7.1 or 7 system with say 7 CW or LAS or Horns?
  10. Yeah, I just dont know how they would match the RF 5's either. I guess I could still use them in another room if they dont play well with others. haha.
  11. Are these worth $250.00 ?? I'm thinking of adding them with my RF 5's Any opinions on this set up? It will mostly be Home Theater. Thanks

    R-5's

Glad to hear the 5's are close to the 7's. If I can find the 7's as cheap as I did the 5's, I will grab them. Well, I got tired of the 5's calling me out so I brought the Crown XLS 402 back out and hooked it up. I figured out why I didnt notice a difference between the Yamaha 663 and the Crown. Come to find out one of the wires (Adapted from 1/4 inch) was bad. It would play, but then one speaker would quiet down. Still playing, but really quiet. So I changed the cord, broke out the SPL and cranked that sucker up. First, the clipping lights on the Crown never even tried to light up, so that was good. Second, THESE THINGS FRICKING SOUND GOOD WITH SOME POWER!! The SPL pretty much stayed around 100 with peaks of 106. WHAT DID YOU SAY? I CANT HEAR YOU! I was too skeered to go any higher. I am so pleased with these things. Its good to get "Wowed" with new / different speakers. My old Eosones were good, but I dont think they could hang with these bad boys. I was listening in Straight Mode (meaning 2 fronts and Powered Subwoofer). I think I will keep the Crown hooked up for a little while.............. nah, for a long while.

    R-5's

I guess I could break out the SPL and base the loudness on actual numbers instead of guessing. See???? There they go again!!! Telling DO IT DO IT!!! hahaha

    R-5's

Yeah, I agree. Mine are getting cocky with me just daring me to crank them. I walked by them yesterday and I couldve sworn they called me a Wussie!!! They are just asking for it. I think they flipped their nose at me. Why I arda.........................

    R-5's

What amp do you guys use to drive the RF 5? I have the Yamaha 663 which is only a couple months old and it sounds real good. But I also have a Crown XLS 402 that I hooked up. I didnt see that big of difference. Of course, I'm afraid to crank it up too much, I dont want to hurt my RF 5's. The nice thing with the Crown is it has "clipping" lights that tell you you are pushing too hard. But I just cant get myself to turn it up real loud yet. I'm still nervous. I dont know when enough is enough abd I dont want to see them go up in smoke. I still skeeered.

    R-5's

Instead of bringing my old thread up, I just figured I'd start a new one. I posted about finding some R-5's for $400.00 and I was wondering what you guys thought of that price. Not that it would change anything cuz they are in my living room now and I am very happy with them. I was just wondering if that was a good deal, or just an OK deal? They are in perfect condition, not a scratch on them. Matter of fact, I think I'll play my Pink Floyd Pulse concert right now so I can get "wowed" again. If anyone likes the old stuff, this DVD is incredible with both the sound and the light show.
  18. I can add what I learned since I have the Yamaha 663. As mentioned earlier, same receiver minus HD radio and HDMI inputs. After palying with many different settings, I found the best sound came when I changed the LFE to "BOTH" in the menu. That means it goes to External Powered Sub and the front towers. This really opened up my R-5's. It sounds great now. Especially in direct mode. I know the general concensus is to have front towers set to small when you have powered sub. They are still set to small, and changing the LFE to BOTH, made a huge difference. In fact, when I first brought the R-5's home I was tickled to death. I bought them used about a month or so ago. But I wasnt "Wowed". I couldnt figure out why these speakers werent rocking my socks off. But, they are now!!!! With just a simple change in the menu. With so many different options on todays receivers, it really pays to experiment before judging a receiver. I've heard of so many people bringing home the new receiver (not just Yamaha, but all of them) and that same night, they are telling how they are dissapointed in the sound.
  19. Well, I got er hooked up and it sounds great. I'd say these are an upgrade to my old Eosone RSF 400's. I moved the Eosones to the rear surrounds. The mids are clearer and the imaging is cleaner. I hooked it like this: The Yamaha 663 is running the 2 fronts and center. The Adcom is running the 4 surrounds. I didnt Bi Wire them. I like how the banana clips have "plugs" on 2 of them so its no guess where to hook it up. These RF 5's are in excellent shape, not a scratch on them and the guy I bought them from said he was the orginal owner. They really do look brand new. Me Like!!!!!
  20. Yes, the Yamaha does have pre outs. I am glad I listened to that little voice in my head telling me to get pre outs. Although at the time I was looking at new receivers, preouts were on my list, but not high on the list. Quick question. The speakers now have a wire connecting the binding posts for Bi-wire. (positive to positive, neg to neg). So, if I use my Crown 2 ch amp, I will just have 2 speaker wires going to the back of the RF 5's correct? Not 4 wires?
  21. I am so stoked. I just scored a pair of RF 5's for a great price. At least I think it is a great price. I am so excited I havent even taken them out of my truck yet. I had to post this first. Some may remember seeing my post called Value of RF 7. Well, while searching for some RF 7's, RF 5's came up for $ 400. They are now in my family. I also purchased a Velodyne Sub, DLS 4000 since he offered, really cheap. Now how do I hook these speakers up????? I know what to do with the sub, but what about the RF 5's ? Its been a while since I had nice speakers like this in my room. Heres my setup: Yamaha RXV 663 HT receiver Its 7.1 Extra amps are Crown XLS 402 and Adcom 7703. The Crown is 2 channel, the Adcom is 5 channel. Sub will be the new Velodyne Wow, This is fun.
  22. Come on Arky, dont leave me hangin.lol. Does this mean you think the Yammy 663 or the Adcom GFA 7703 isnt a good match? I know that sound is highly subjective and I know not to buy speakers without listening to them first. I actually made that mistake about 10 years back. Luckily for me it didnt cost me any money, it was a trade, but, Wow, I just re-lived that past moment of dissappointment when you bring new speakers home with high expectations only to be let down. What a horrible feeling. At least I can say been there done that. I think I will hang on for a while and wait for some Cornwalls or Forte or Hereseys. I'm thinking I can find them local at a good price, then if I dont like them I can turn around and sell them without taking a big hit. If all else fails, I do have a Crown XLS 402 set up in my garage. I play my drums to my CD's with that hooked up to an older HK AVR 20 II.
  23. Well, my speakers are the next purchase, although I am in no big hurry. I just aquired an Adcom GFA 7300 5 channel int amp. My Receiver is fairly new (2 months) and is a Yamaha RXV 663. I havent even hooked the Adcom up yet, I traded some speakers for the amp. I will probably hook it up tomorrow or the next day. I passed on the RF 7's because it sounded like they werent in the greatest shape. They wouldve needed new covers and there were scratches on the cabinets. I still havent heard the RF 7's yet, but I will sooner or later.
  24. Thanks for the Welcome and suggestions. One thing about it, theres certainly no shortage of choices. Sheesh theres a lot of models to choose/know. I was also looking at some KG 5.2 I may just hang on to the Eosones till I can listen to some of these speakers. I guess I will try to find some setups local. Any members here from the Houston area that doesnt mind a demo?
  25. It will mostly be for HT. When I do get some nice front speakers, I bet I will be listening to more music though. The RF 7's are local and the asking price is $1,000. Seems a bit high to me, but I dont know.
