  1. Hey all, it's been a long time since I have posted here. Lately I have been thinking about upgrading my receiver. It's an older 5.1 yamaha. I would like to get something that has hdmi, 7.1, and auto calibration for around $500. I am open to any brand and am looking to get some opinions on what you all think would go well with the speakers that I have. Everything is listed in my sig. Thanks for any input!
  2. Thanks Youthman. The memory zoom feature is awesome. It's really the reason I went with this projector, thanks with your help. It's a fantastic way to get around the anamorphic lense setup. I really can't think of any complaints I could come up with. The picture quality is incredible.
  3. I finally got my panasonic 3000u projector in! I absolutely love this thing! I posted some pics a few pages back of my setup with the screen before the projector. I just wanted to update a few now that I have it. Sorry about the quality of pictures. My camera is terrible. It looks much sharper and more vibrant in real life.
  4. Hello all. I have not posted in a while. But I am in the process of redoing my theater room. I got my Carada 120" 2:35:1 screen in today. I assembled it and mounted it. So far I am very impressed! I have the PT-AE3000u projector on order. Hopefully will arrive within a weeks time. So for now, I don't have any way of actually watching anything on the new screen. It's going to to drive me crazy until I can get the projector up. Oh well. One step down. Anyway, I will post some pics of the new setup. I have before pictures a little farther back in this thread.
  5. Youthman, I read on your other forum that you calibrated the projector. How difficult or easy was that to do? The after shots look amazing! I was also wondering if you have had a chance to play any games from the ps3 on there? Just wondering how that looked. Something else I have been wondering was how difficult was it to set up/build the screen? Sorry for all the questions! Just trying to figure out what all I will be getting into when I add a projector some day.
  6. those are some nice looking speakers! I really like the look of them in cherry.
  7. It's a yamaha htr-5940 . Nothing special. I purchased it well before I even thought about buying klipsch. It was powering my much much lower end speakers. It's amazing how well the klipsch speakers still sound even with this weaker receiver. This is going to be my next upgrade. Any suggestions? Im thinking of spending about 500-600 for it.
  8. I agree with tommy. I have F3's, C2, and S1's in my setup and I really love it! They all sound great together.
  9. No kidding there!! That's also pretty crazy how expensive it can get to try and fix the zoom problem. I wouldn't have much of an issue with it, other than my wife likes to watch a lot of French films. So the subtitle thing could cause trouble for me. Oh well. We could always just watch those ones in a different room. Just wondering, you mentioned the colors were just a tad off right out of the box. Are you going to calibrate it yourself? I don't have any experience working with projectors, how difficult would it be to do that?
  10. Youthman, that is really nice having the memory zoom feature like that!! As far as the problem with zooming in on 2:35:1, don't they sell anamorphic lenses to fix that? Although it might be more of a pain putting it on and taking it off when you don't need it.
  11. Congrats Youthman! Looks great!! You said your screen was 103" right? That's the size I was thinking about myself. What are your first impressions seeing a picture on it? What size does your friend Jason have?
  12. Youth, I really really love the room you are putting together! It's exactly what I imagine doing some day when we get our next house. I hope you keep your site up about your build, it will come in handy for me when when its my turn :-) . I can't wait to see how yours turns out. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I really like what you have so far. I'm super jealous!
  13. Yea, you are right. I had already noticed that. I had a different layout before with the couch, and they were setup perfect, but when I rearranged, the one you see in the picture got burried. The other surround is wide open. I need to either find a different stand or a way to raise both to the same level. My plan is to eventually sell that couch and get 3 leather theater seats side by side. I already have plans for expanding the theater room once we buy a new house in the next couple of years. I have a very supporting wife, so one of our goals is to find a bigger downstairs just for the theater room. I want to eventually have all theater seating, with a second level raised behind the first. Then I will be getting a projector and screen and work on cleaning up the random assortment of movie stuff I have! I really like the looks of some of the setups on here with very clean walls etc...
  14. Well, after seeing how nice all of your setups are, I was almost too embarrased to post mine! It's not as neat or clean as most, but I still love it! The wife was kind enough to let me take over the downstairs, and this was the result!
  15. Haha! That's a pretty nasty upgrade bug you had there. Can't imagine how awesome that must have been when you first heard those compared to the quintet. And how did you get your wife to agree to that? Or was she just as into it as you? When I first started, I told my wife that the TV speakers just were not enough for me. She was perfectly fine with them. But I ended up buying a generic surround in a box setup. Then she started to understand what I was trying to do. She enjoyed those for a while, until I decided they just weren't enough. That's when we got the quintet. I told her that I really didn't need anything else for a long while, and that those could hold me over. She didn't want them at first, but then the started to enjoy those too. But when I said just after a few months, I have to upgrade again, she didn't understand why. Thankfully, she is a very patient person and she let me get the synergy series. It was funny though, when I first put in Dark Knight, she turned to me and said how awesome they were. I think she is starting to understand where it is I'm coming from now!
  16. Thanks! These are my first big steps into the audio world. I'm enjoying them so much right now. The quintets were nice, but I knew after getting them home they could only hold me over so long. I just didn't think it would be that short! Oh well, they can be nice upgrades for my tv upstairs.
  17. Well, thanks for the responce guys. I went to the store today and listened to both the f-2 and f-3 and ended up with the f-3. I also got the sub 12, s1, and c2. I absolutely love them!!! The sub was beyond what I could have imagined. It completely put the sony to shame. I broke in the new setup with the Dark Knight. What an awsome way to try out the new speakers. Can't say enough good things about them. I'm very excited. Thanks again for the input!
  18. Okay, so about 6 months ago I purchased a set of Quintet III. I figured they could hold me over for a while until we purchase our next house and I can set up my theater room the way I want it. They sound great, and I was very pleased with them. However, I have already been bitten very hard by that pesky upgrade bug. The itch is so bad, I can't wait much longer and am already looking into moving up. I am looking into buying either a set of F-2 or F-3. I am also going to get a couple of S-1 for the surround and C-2 for the center. My question is how much of a difference is there between F-2 and F-3. I don't know the exact measurements of the room they would go in other than I would say its average size, maybe 12 x 12 or so. As I said before, I already have plans brewing for future home expansion that will include a larger full theater room. So, is it better to just get the F-3 now or will the F-2 be able to fill an average size room and then something bigger in the future? Which do you prefer? Any other helpful tips or ideas is greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help! PS: I also have a question about the sub. I currently have a Sony 12" SAW3000. The sub is pretty good, but not great. When the bass hits, it really can rumble. But it sometimes seems like the sub can miss some of the lows or come in late. So I am also thinking about switching to a klipsch sub. If I get a Klipsch 10", will I notice a big difference from what I have now? Should I just go with a klipsch 12"? I'm asking because I heard the 10" at Best Buy and to me it sounded so much better than the Sony 12" I have right now. But I am not sure if it was just in the show room or not. Thanks again and sorry for all the questions in one.
