I did notice that everything sounded better once I went with the Denon 3930 over my Oppo for CD's. Maybe I just have sensitive ears, when I have friends over they don't seem to be bothered by some of the things that bother me. I always have amazing detail on my setups but that tended to go hand in hand with the brightness of my setup. Maybe I will get out of this 2 channel business and switch to headphones. []

It is pretty interesting. I picked up some LS's and upgraded the tweeter and crossover from Crites. It is a pretty big difference. I went from the AL crossover to the BK 4500 and the Eminence tweeter. I also picked up some Altec Valencia 846's hooked up to my Rotel. They are an impressive 2 way. Speakers in general are frustrating. I listen to all kinds of music and unfortunately I haven't heard a set of speakers that make everything sound awesome. I did pick up a Pass Labs Aleph J clone and that sounds really nice with the LS's. It is amazing what preamp, with what amp, with what speakers, with what music, sounds the best. I just picked up a Mcintosh HT-2 sub to fill in the bass gap. I will see how that goes when it gets here.

I passed on the 1233's and picked up a very nice pair of Valencia 846b's. So far they are very impressive. Mid and lows are absolutely amazing but the highs can be very bright. What does that pot on the back of the speaker actually do? Does it affect the quality of sound?

I may have to change my mind on this one. I just found some Altec Valencia 846b's. They look a lot nicer and they from what I have read they are pretty decent. Anyone know about these.

I came across a pair of these locally. Not in great condition but serviceable. Does anyone know anything about these things? I can't seem to find anything on them that say whether they are good for something or not. Let me know what the story is with these things. Thanks, Nick

What is that inductor\coil on the bottom left? It is the only one I can't see.

Does anyone have the schematic for the A/4500 xover? I would like to see the difference between that and the Type A.

I currently am using an Acurus Act 3 for my 2 channel preamp. I may have been talked into a Tube Preamp by a couple of my audio buddies. Currently looking into a Conrad Johnson PV5 and a cheaper Quicksilver. Does anyone use a tube pre with their setups? Also, I just hooked up my Parasound 1206 to a single La Scala and a single Forte I. Holy crap is that La Scala a big sounding speaker. The mid and bass using that Parasound absolutely stomps the Acurus and the Rotel is a little better than the Acurus. My setup was very bright before switching to the Parasound.

I bought a set of Mid 80's La Scalas with the AL x-over and one had a blown tweeter. Is it worth putting a new diaghram in or do I just get some CT125's? If I go that way do I upgrade to a A4500 x-over or go back to an A or AA? I know it is subjective but if I replace the tweeters do I just go for the 4500 x-over. Now for amplification. I only have SS amps because I am only recently getting into 2 channel audio. I have an Acurus A150, Rotel 993, B&K AV2500, and a Parasound 1206. The 1206 is for my 5 channel Forte HT setup. From what I hear a tube amp in the 10 wpc range is the way to go with the Heritage line of speakers. I have read some good things about the 300b tube amps. I now understand that this stuff is far from inexpensive. Even though I have a lot of equipment I am very thrifty. Let's just say I won't lose money on any of my stuff for many years. I want a good tube amp setup for my La Scalas but don't want to go broke doing it. If anyone here is in central Wisconsin I would love to hear a demo of La Scalas and some tube setups. Also the Acurus, Rotel, and B&K could be offered in a trade for a tube amp. Thanks for any info and help.

Could someone post the original AL crossover network on here so I can compare it to the AL-3 crossover network diagram that I have. I just bought my first pair of La Scalas with the AL and I would like to build the updated AL-3 but I just want to see the difference.
