  1. Everything is 100 percent in phase. I'm not describing a problem really...they just don't start to come alive until you give them some real juice. They sound excellent at low volumes, but I want that thump at mid volume...not at ear peircing volume. On that note...when I put in the new crossovers...the squawker had both wires going to the same terminal...I didn't notice a difference until I tested them with the spl and the pink noise sounded different.
  2. Well...in my profile you will see I have already updated the tweeter diaphragms and the crossover networks. I tried bi-wiring and went back to single wire after reading a thread (i'll link it later when I get home)...basically, if ANYTHING, bi-wiring causes more noise than single wiring. I was more asking as far as power sources, and it appears you use a preamp and an eq. I'm not getting rid of the 2808 anytime soon, so...any other suggestions? []
  3. With my equiptment I have now, what can I add as far as an amp to get the most out of the KLF-20s? I won't be separating HT from 2Ch anytime soon, so if I could get something that would work on both ends, that would be great. Maybe use the Denon as a Preamp? I love they way the KLFs play when you have the volume cranked way the hell up, but it also hurts your ears... Is there a way to get that power and solid bass from them without having the volume at brainbreaking volumes?
  4. As soon as I get to it and make a KLF 20 center channel, I'm taking the C7, and getting another C7 to use as side surrounds. I am not sure if I will be mounting them vertical or horizontal. Probably horizontal angled down to the couch.
  5. Hmm...don't you feel the KLF's "clean-up" a bit when you don't force them to go so low?
  6. What do you mean by full range?
  7. It has been suggested to just build a KLF20 center channel from scratch. If I went this route, where is the best place to buy the internals?
  8. I'm trying to decide on which way to go as well. I haven't heard the 30's, so I can't compare, but I love my 20's. I have a small 15x15 room...so it's almost impossible to use 20's as surrounds without them being a foot away from your head. I have S2's hanging on the side walls and surround effects sound great. I will be building my own KLF 20 center, so I will have a C7 with nowhere to go. Do I find another C7 and use them as my side surrounds and put the S2's as rear surrounds? I would love to go KLF20's all around, but like I said...how the hell do you put towers as side surrounds in a room this small. I could however angle the C7's right to the sweet spot, but will a C7 sound better than an RS-52 or a KSP-S6? On that note...what settings do you KLF20 users set your crossovers to? I have HT set at 120hz Mains/LFE and 120hz for everything else. 2ch is 60hz Mains/LFE in direct mode.
  9. The search has begun. Top of the list...SVS Ultra/Samson 1000.
  10. Now this is strange. I went into the audio setting for direct/stereo and I added the sub, set the xover to 60hz and bam...pure direct mode now has a sub with a xover setting in it. I wasn't able to do this when I used the BD player(via HDMI) for CD's, but since I now use composite connects with the DCD, it works. I don't get it, but it sounds real good...better than direct mode with a sub. Also...I have to go and check, but I don't think the denon ever set the levels of the mains below 0db. I have decided that I am going to incorporate a sub into two channel stereo...why...because I like it better. Perhaps the solution to a better sound instead of using pure direct or direct or stereo...I can use the Denon as a preamp and get a nice amplifier, and two SVS ultras.
  11. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130358175964&ssPageName=ADME:L:PMR:US:1123 I was so glad when someone on here mentioned this. Soo sweet to have it now.
  12. The DAC is far superior in the DCD-3520. With the sub on in pure direct mode...set to crossover at 60hz, it sounds good. Stereo mode sounds too bassy and dull. It has a lot of boom and the highs get muddled. Direct mode makes it clean up a bit, but the drivers in the KLF's don't start to really come alive until I put it in Pure Direct mode. Pure Direct in the denon sounds clean and crisp and works the KLF's hardest. Maybe using the Denon as a preamp will do something for my ears. I'm thinking about spending loot on a pair of SVS Ultras w/samson 1000's though
  13. The Denon receiver is really wonderful for HT. Like most people though...I feel it lacks something in 2 channel. I don't know how much of a difference I will see though. I have the DCD-3520 run through composite cables so I am bypassing the DAC in the receiver. It sounds quite a bit better than when I was using the BD player for music...but I feel I could still do something. How would I incorporate a preamp/power amp into my set-up now?
  14. What is the best plan of attack to get started on incorporating 2 subs in my set-up. First off, the 2808 only has 1 sub out. I want to be able to use the same speakers/subs for home theater and for 2 channel stereo stuff. Is this even possible to make happen?
  15. Eventually I would like to completely separate home theater from 2 channel stereo, but it's a long ways away. Right now, I use the Denon receiver in Pure Direct mode. When it is in that mode it can't use the sub. The speakers really stand out because it allows me to use the DAC in the DCD-3520, however...I think I might be missing that extra bass. 2 questions: How do you use a sub, or 2 subs with the receiver in that mode? Will I notice a difference if I buy an amp and use the Denon as a preamp?
  16. Right now I'm trying to figure the costs of buying all the necessary components to build a KLF-20 center channel vs. buying a pair of used speakers. Would it be possible (sound good) to rearrange the one speaker to use a center, and split the other into surrounds? What if I used one driver in each surround and purchase the mid and tweeter? Would that even make sense or sound good? I would love to be able to hang a full KLF-20 on either side of the couch, but it's not going to happen. I was thinking that building a speaker with the one driver would keep it small enough to hang on the wall.
  17. ...never thought of running a R/L center set-up. Interesting. I don't know if I would like that though. I think vocally, it seems more like a person in front of you if it comes from a single source. I never tried it, but it's one thing that I'm pretty sure wouldn't sound better than one awsome center channel, but who knows. For the hell of it...
  18. Haha, then again. For about 100 bucks more than that player, I can upgrade my KLF 20's with new crossover networks and titanium tweeters! Now choices like that are half the fun!
  19. Good point. I might give that beat up looking DCD-35 with the added mods. For 200 bucks shipped, it sounds like a good deal.
  20. Thanks for the awsome help. People on this forum are great. For an analog out only, strictly CDP. How much difference does a few hundred dollars make in the used market? For instance, that DCD-35 is going for 150 dollars. Is that as good as the integra which is more than twice as much? Is this were the dollar sign line is drawn for "all in one" players vs. CDP only?
  21. I have a DLP tv, so I have to be careful with how high I mount it before viewing angle starts to fall off. The couch is low, so anything over 35" is pretty close to that gray area. On that note...I already have the 20's spaced perfectly, and once I build the 3rd 20 to go under the tv, it will be slightly below chest level while seated, but I'll angle it up to the ear. And in essence will have done exactly what you mentioned. Thanks for reassuring me it will be "jamming". JAM OUT WITH YOUR CLAM OUT!
  22. interesting, but I don't think it would be a good enough reason for me [] i'm wondering...how would having the front 3 speakers all be KLF 20s compare to say...keeping the KLF's as my mains and spending a thousand+ dollars on a fancy small center channel?
  23. I just browsed some really high end speaker systems for the hell of it, and I was wondering...why is the center channel so small compared to the mains, and the surrounds even smaller? I'm just wondering because if you have KLF 30's all around you in a home theater...it would seem that it would be a more intense experience. However...when you spend 25K dollars on a system...the center channel looks so small and wimpy.
  24. A lot of options...how to decide? The link to that integra looks like a good unit, but does a player loose (i dont want to say credibility) but "something" if it is a universal player? I mean,do you end up paying more for the other options as opposed to a stand alone CD player with stop/play/pause and the rest of the money/effort put into the DAC and other such internals? The only thing I want to use it for is music cds with an analog out cable.
