  1. Hi All I have been looking at a rsw-12 to add to my system (rb5lls across the front and rs3 for surrounds). I recently came across a sunfire true architecture cube which fits better in the space allocated. This is not the signature model but the lower end single driver model. I can get the klipsch for around $700 and I think I can wheel and deal on the sunfire because it is a dealer demo model that is 3 years old. Anyone out there have any advice or recommendations? I am going to have to return the sunfire tommorrow and make a decision to get it or go to Sound Advice and get the rsw-12. I have a HK 520 for reciver. Mike
  2. The specifications for the rb-5lls do not show anything for the hf crossover. Does this mean there is no crossover? Should I bi-wire these speakers to get the most out of them? Every other bookshelf speaker shows a crossover frequency. Mike
  3. I have a H&K AVR 520 and the default volume set was -25. I have had it at -10 at it was really blasting my rb-5s in my 14 x 20 room. I believe when you use the built in program to balance your speakers it tells you to set the volume at -15. The avr 525 is probably not too much different than my settings. Mike
  4. Thanks for your input John. I have not decided which way to go yet and I was hoping to here a few more ideas/opinions from the members of this board before I started putting holes in my walls. I had a spare rc3 was going to purchase another rc3 use them as surrounds but I never actually heard anyone else doing the same thing. I ended up trading in my rc3 for some rs3s. I am not sure if my ideas are off the wall, I am a new user or because I do not own a pair of rf-7s or heritage. I rarely get much of a response when I ask questions. Mike
  5. Klipsch says the rs-3 placement is more flexible. Can I put place them on the back wall instead of the side of the listening area? Will this cancel out the intended effects of dolby digital or dts? Mike
  6. I need surround speakers that have a little smaller footprint than the rs-3 surrounds. Does the moderator or anyone else know if this match will be close enough? Thanks Mike
  7. I was thinking about purchasing another set of rb-5s but there is not any real good place to set them and I do not want to put them on the wall. I was hoping some other users here have tried the rc-3s as their surround speakers so I could get some real world feedback. I am sure they will not sound as good as a couple of rb-5s but they are supposed to match the bookshelfs and the surrounds should not be as busy as a front speaker. Thanks for you comments. mike
  8. I have been evaluating and changing my mind like crazy trying to figure out surround speaker placement. I had an extra rb-5 and decided to use it as a center speaker with rb-5IIs as fl and fr. I then thought what about getting another rc-3II and use these speakers as my surround speakers. All I have to do is buy one more speaker and the rc-3 fits easily in the built in bookcase on my left and I would have to get a book shelf for my right. They would be about 2 to 3 feet behind the main sitting position and 6 foot above the carpet. They would be aimed directly at each other across the room. I know dolby recommends the speakers facing each other but I have not read anywhere that anyone else is using the rc-3s for surrounds. Does anyone have any input, comments, success stories or just plain good advice? Thanks mike
  9. Thank for your opinions on which way to go with the surrounds. I got the tape measure out and did some checking on the rear side walls near the ceiling. Appears that I could fit a an rs3 in the wall just above the inwall bookcase to the left and one on the way to my right. Looks like the speakers would be about 3' behind and 4' above my seat with the speakers facing each other. This looks like it will be the best I can do. I like the look of the in ceiling speakers but I am not sure I can stand the heat if I put holes in the ceiling. Guess I will take the cowards way out. Fight the battles that are woth the battle I say. Thanks again for the help. I may not have the $$$ system like others but I want to set it up the best I can. 10. Well I guess I will try again. Is anyone using using reference ceiling speakers for the surrounds? If so, will this option be satisfactory? I do not have a vaulted ceiling so they will be pointing straight down. The information I have been reading states the surround channels mostly provide ambient sounds (rain, crickets, winds, stuff like that) I am assuming this option is preferable to no surrounds at all. My room layout is attached in the above post. TIA mike
  11. Thanks for the info. My previous speakers never gave me that effect no matter where I placed them. Sounds like I am on the right track. I still cannot get over how clear the music the vocals and music is with the reference speakers. I have noticed though the old compilation "hit" cds sound in no way as good as the newer recordings. mike
  12. I know this maybe a stupid question but I have to ask. I have been moving around my front rb-5 speakers looking for the the ideal position. I am not sure of what I am doing. I cannot adjust positions to a equilateral triangle because of room layout. The speakers are about 6.5' apart with the tv in the center and my seating position is about 9' back. I noticed an effect the other day when playing a normal stereo cd that the sound appeared to be coming from the center speaker or at least the center between the two front speakers. Is this what I am striving for or is it all screwed up. Questions or comments are appreciated. I figure this is the best place to ask this question without looking too foolish. mike rb-5IIS LF & RF rc-3IIs center Maybe rcr5 or rcw5 for surround sub to be determined hk avr 520 receiver
  13. As most everyone, my family room is not the best for installing a home theater. I am going to have to compromise for the surround speakers placement. If you look at the room layout you will see my lazy boy is not quite centered in the room. If I place the speakers (in wall) behind and to the side the one on the left will be about 4' above and 4.5'from my left ear. The right will be in the wall about 9' from my right ear. Won't that change the dynamics of the effect? I could put ceiling speakers above about 4' to each side but I have not seen that placement recommended anywhere. I forgot to state, the speakers on each side of the TV are RB-5IIs on 24" stands and a RC-3II is on top of the TV. I am not sure how the room layout will hurt the sound as to the left of my seat is a fireplace with a stone wall almost the length of the room. Any opinions/recommendations are appreciated. I guess the question is ceiling speakers evenly spaced above and behind by head or side inwall speakers unevenly spaced. Thanks Mike rb-5IIS LF & RF rc-3IIs center Maybe rcr5 or rcw5 for surround sub to be determined hk avr 520 receiver
  14. Hi folks After months of waiting and I finally purchased a H&K AVR 520 to go with my Rb5-IIs. (CC floor model) Of course this drove me to go ahead and buy an RC-3. I do have a spare RB-5 but it was not the best setup having it sit on top of the TV. Still waiting to get a sub and looking at the room the theater is in, I am probably going to have to use ceiling speakers for the surrounds. Still seems like not the same amount of bass as the old SB3s I had. Moved to a new house and the speakers are about 18 inches from a flat wall approx 6' apart. My main sitting position for is limited by the room and I am sitting about 10" from the TV/Speakers. My question is since I only have the 3 front speakers, should I set up the receiver so they are all large or leave the center small and the mains large? Anyone out there using Rb5s as their primary 2 channel/home theater? Any recommendations on an affordabe sub that will work well (or at least a good comromise) with 2 channel music and theater? TIA Mike

    RB5-II Bass ??

Sounds like there is not alot I can do except wait until I can afford a new receiver. I tend to hold onto my electronics until they die. The Pioneer receiver is over 20 years old, been in the shop only once, and has done many moves from Air Force base to Air Force base. I am going to have to save up alot of pennies as currently I am leaning towards the B&K line of receivers. Maybe the B&K 307 will drop since the 507 is out. I have not listened to it yet but I do value the opinion of the members of this board, the consenus this manufacturer is a good match to Klipsch and since it seems to be upgradable which goes along with my habit of holding onto electronics forever. Heck, I still have an old direct drive Sansui turntable somewhere in the attic. I take it then biwiring the my RB5-IIs would be a waste of money then? I am currently using monster wire on them already. Thanks to everyone for there valued opinions. Mike
  16. Hi folks Upgraded my SB3s to RB5s. Definitely a different sound. Seems clearer and easier to listen too. I do seem to have lost some bass though. Still waiting to upgrade receiver, too many choices, starting to get a headache. The speakers are on some spindly wooden stands and I am sure not in the best placement. Basically the entertainment center is in the corner with the speakers on stands flanking it. No way to move them out any more than 9 inches as they would be in a walkway. Distance between speakers is about 6 feet. Sitting position is 9 feet away from tv with speakers angled towards listener. Looking to buy another house next year with a great room that is at least a rectangle with seating direct across from proposed entertainment center location. Sorry,I guess I am rambling. My question is, since I cannot improve speaker location at the moment, will better stands, or bi-wiring, or ?? help restore the bass? The SB3s definitely rocked harder in the bass area but I do recall them seeming to be getting on my nerves after awhile. Guess that is the definition of speakers sounding harsh. 17. Hello fellow Klipsch owners I finally have started to purchase some home theater components. My entire stereo consisted of an old Pioneer Receiver (SX-950) and a couple of Klipsch SB-3 Speakers. My space is limited but after listening to and reading numerous positive reviews I upgraded the SB-3s to a couple of Reference RB-5IIs speakers. Now I am looking where to look for an AV receiver. I was convinced to go the Denon 3803 route but now I am not sure. I guess I am looking for the best all around receiver as it is important to me the system has a good sound for music as well as watching dvd movies. Lately I have seen people raving over the sound from Marantz, Harman Kardon, and Pioneer Elite. Probably will be a while before I can purchase a subwoofer and surround speakers. I am looking for a receiver that compliments my RB-5 speakers. Budget for a receiver is in the neighborhood of $1000. Thanks in advance for any opinion, positive or negative, as it has been quite a while since I have been able to show an interest in this area. Ha, Ha, about since the receiver I have was new in fact. Mike
  18. Hello All I ended up purchasing another entertainment center and now there is no place except the floor for my SB-3s. Honestly, they actually sound alot better than sitting on a shelf on the old center. I thought about trading up to the SF-3s but when I compared them at the store the sound was not enough of a improvement(mostly a little louder due to better efficiency I guess) for the 200$ upgrade fee. I have dogs that tend to mark territory and am afraid the speakers are going to get claimed soon. Anyone have suggestions or recommendations on speaker stands? What is the best way to mount the speakers on stands? I really do not want to drill holes in my speakers. They may not be much but they are all I have. Thanks in advance for any recommendations. Mike
