Current configuration for my theater is Academy front, forte II for front, forte rear (more like rear as they are behind me), and sunfire sub. Speakers are taking up quite a bit of room. I am thinking about changing the front setup to Academy across the front. I do have two spare at the moment. Any idea if this would be an acceptable configuration if the networks were also upgraded? I have been looking at purchasing a new receiver in the near future. Currently have an HK avr 520 but would like to upgrade. Been debating between Sunfire and B & K. Anyone do a comparison in listening betweek the two receivers? No room for separates so it will have to be a receiver. Any owners of either receiver on the board? Mike

Should be no problem. From what I have read, only CRT television tubes are affected by magnetic fields. Would your entertainment center have an open back where the sub sits? The way I understand Klipsch subs, the front driver is passive and the rear is active. Not sure how that would sound in an enclosed entertainment center. Mike

I went through a bad experience with Ebay last year. Non-functional NIB item. Seller had great communication and agreed to refund my $$$ until I shipped the product back. Stupid me for doing that according to Paypal. No more contact after that. I complained to Ebay and Paypal and they were no help as I was outside the 30 day window. I use Paypal tied to my credit card. I initiated a dispute and and they credited my account. Then Paypal came back stating their investigation with the seller was complete and he said I returned the wrong item. The CC company took the $$$ back. I continued the dispute and with all the doucmentation of my emails with the seller and the attempted emails, Visa finally agreed with me and refunded my $$$. I would think about calling Law Enforcement in his hometown and see if they can do anything. Fraud was a crime the last I heard. Keep pictures of the speaker as you received it. Different s/n on box shows he did not send you the correct item. Give it a shot, can't hurt. Mike

Strictly for Home Theater I would recommend using rb5s all around with a good sub. This type of system would work great in my humble opinion. I used rb5s across the front for quite a while. I did get the upgrade bug as my system is also my music system and I wanted to try older generation speakers. Now the rb5s are in a guest room connected to my old pioneer stereo receiver. Mike

Retired Air Force. First listened to Klipsch when I was TDY in England in the late 70s Liked the sound but did not have the room or $$$ back then. I think it was a pair of LaScalas I was listening too. Everyone I knew then thought Bose 901s were the hot item. I thought the LaScalas were much better than the Bose. I almost purchased a pair of Advent speakers but I got married and ended up with some cheap brand. Still have the Pioneer SX-950 receiver, Sansui turntable and Pioneer cassette deck I used back then. Guess I am a pack rat to a degree. Mike

I did some impulse buying and hurt the cc some. I purchased a set of original Fortes and another Academy to test which way to go with my surrounds. Standard placment of surrounds was out of the question. Only choices are back wall behind my chair or in the ceiling. I just could not cut holes in the ceiling. First I swapped around Fortes and Forte IIS as fronts to see which I preferred as mains. The Fortes seemed to have a tighter bass but seemed harsh compared to the IIs. I guess I got used to the IIs. The IIs are my mains. Put the Fortes about four feet back and a little to the side of my chair. Sounded fine but I think my high back Lazy Boy is blocking some sound. Put a set of Academies on top of the Fortes and since they are alot higher, the effects were more noticeable but otherwise nothing major in audio quality over the Fortes. Maybe purchase a dedicated chair for home theaters or raise the Fortes a little. This decision was based on my inexperienced ears and ,too be honest, how everything fit in the room. The system will never be the perfect setup but as long as it makes me happy, that is what counts to me. Now I can finally get someone to run the surround cables through the walls and ceiling and get rid of the "hanging spaghetti" 2005 most likely will be upgrade electronics. I do wonder about upgraded xovers for the Fortes. Mike

I know this is kinda way off topic but I am very proud of my wife. About a year ago she decided exercise was not going to help her lose weight. She heard about the Atkins diet and after some research she went on the diet and has lost around 45 pounds. She is a strong believer in using support groups with online forums. This helped her kick the smoking habit after 20 something years dedicated smoking. She became a member of an Atkins forum and with worldwide support had been very successful in losing weight. She has actually cleared up all her blood work and lowered her BP. She also eats ice cream everyday. Weird. A CarbLite magazine reporter decided she would be a very good example and used her for an article in the Apr 2005 issue. She was interviewed over the phone while we were heading home after work and she did send some pictures to go with the article. The two page article was very well done. She has always wanted to author and publish something. I guess being the subject of an article is a start. Mike

Is it possible the vibrations from a subwoofer could cause internal damage to a DLP TV? When you have a "good" bass movie playing the vibrations can be felt all over the room, including the TV frame. I had a new DLP go bad and was wondering if anyone has attributed their TV going bad because of a sub in close proximity to the TV Most of the pics I have seen display people having their sub upfront near the main speakers/TV. I guess it depends if you are planning on using the Fortes for both 2 channel and home theater. You could experiment can get some rb5s all around and a sub and have a decent system for home theater and keep the Fortes for two channel. If you plan on using the Fortes then maybe some quartets or another set of Fortes for the surrounds. The center is the problem, the best is another Forte or locate an Academy. An Academy search can be frustrating. Others are using different speakers for the center and hoping to find an academy. Mike

Amazing sound from these speakers. Lacking in a bass some but that is expected. Add a good sub and you are ready to go. I thnk I spent about $800 for a set of two a couple of years ago. I was lacking in space at old house and they were the largest I could use. I do admit though with my old pioneer receiver they were a little harsh on the ears. I was using three across the front for my theater. I changed because I wanted to try the older classic speakers. I would experiment with toeing them in and out for your situation. Mike

Is this a fair price for my hardly used black RS3 IIs? I need to clean out my closet. Do not have the walls to mount them properly so I went with direct radiating speakers behind me. Mike

I added a set of Fortes and one more Academy just before Xmas. I relatively have run out of room so 2005 will be looking to upgrade my receiver. No room for separates. I am leaning towards Sunfire or B& K. Been toying with the idea of Mcintosh but I am sure that is out of my price range. Alot of people on this forum have helped me this year. Partially worked out. I met the UPS driver before she could get to my house and questioned her about my missing speakers. She tap danced a little saying she only had one over size delivery to my neighborhood yesterday and it was a different address. I asked her why did it show she delivered two packages to my house. After a few minutes on convincing her she went to the house and found my speakers. Nice neighbors huh. There was no attempt by them to contact me about the mistaken delivery. I know if two large packages were delivered to my house with the wrong address I would have gone to the correct address and let them know. I had to restrain myself from going down there and saying something. The plan here is to determine which speakers I want to use for my surrounds. Fortes or Academys. For WAF the Fortes look better in the alloted space. About 4' behind and to the side of my Lazy Boy. Is there an advantage sonically of one or the other? The speakers are a set of OO original Fortes in very good condition. (8716041 & 8716042) Even came with an original instruction manual. As usual one casualty, a riser fell apart as I took it out of the box. The plastic brackets came unglued and the staples came apart. I guess I will take it to the same guy who repaired the riser on my Forte II. I have not played them much yet but the bass seems a little tighter than the Forte IIS but highs do seem "different" I am thinking this is the different in the tractix and exponential horns. Sound Advice exchange people have not contacted me yet about exchanging the tv. My patience I am sure will run out by the first of next week. Mike

What is amazing about this is I paid $355 plus shipping back in August for a black academy. I guess no one was watching ebay that day. I would like to find an OO Academy to match my Fortes but I would not pay a premium price for one that needs work. One of the Academys I have the previous owner painted gloss black. The speaker was an oak clear finish. I am thinking it would be cheaper to have someone strip the paint off and refinish it. Has anyone tried this before? I wonder if it was an intentional run up the price on this auction. Makes you go hmmmmmmmm. Mike

Purchased the above TT some time around 1976. Been in the attic for numerous years. Rubber covering over spring feet are gone. Have not done LPs since the 80s. I thnk I spent around $200 for it in 1976 Is this TT worth the hassle of trying to sell on Ebay? If it is only worth $50 or less, I am not sure I want to go through the effort. Might be easier just to pawn it. Mike

Xmas holidays were supposed to be the finishing of my theater. So far it has not gone well. New Samsung DLP 5674w has started acting after only 9 days and the set of Fortes I purchased off of ebay have been misdelivered. They say they delivered them to the garage at my address. Sound Advice better make good on the tv. Good thing I purchased the set local and they have a 60 day exchange. I only have been looking at TVs for the last year or so. Looked at numerous models and chose the Samsung. Great picture except when the 7 red horizontal lines show up when the TV is first turned on. Did not do this the first few days. They fade away but I am sure it is not supposed to do this. I of course was home, garage was closed and I had seen a UPS truck across the street but could not get outside before the truck left. The neighbor does not have the speakers. I have walked around the neighborhood three times trying to peer in garages and so far no luck. Supposed to rain today. Arggghhhhh. Today they are supposed to be delivering an Academy to the house. I am very irritated! I guess paying high shipping cost does not require competence on the shipper. The kicker is if the speakers are lost, they will refund the shipper, not me. So I will be out product and $$$ and will have to depend on the seller to refund my $$$. I recently purchased a new stand for the tv and audio equipment. This allowed me to revive my yamaha cd changer with analog connections. (more room) I have been playing cds in my pioneer dvd/sacd/dvda player with coax digital connection to my receiver. Could be my ears but the old cds just seem to sound, for no better description, better through the yamaha instead of the pioneer. Even when I had selected the 5 analog connections on the pioneer. I doubt the yamaha is better. Could it be me? Maybe I listened the cds through the yamaha so long I was used to it? Has anyone else experienced anything similar to this? Mike
