  1. Kelly,

I guess that I liked the sound of my original type AA also and wanted to hear something different. This may have been the reason for liking the ALK crossover because it added greater resolution but did make the sound thin.I think this is the same debate as between prefering tube amps or solid state amps.

I guess that I should have removed the tweeter protection diods in my original type AA,at first and than I probably would'nt have to change anything.

I still think that the type A is the best crossover for the Klipschorn and its simplicity sure contribue to the wonderfull sound(I am still amazed by the added midrange information).

Unfortunately I might be needed to sell the klipschorns soon since we need the place and settle for the JBL L300's or L65-JUBAL .

  2. Hello everyone,

I have decided to sell some of my vintage equipment.

I am about to sell a pair of a classic mint pair of british QUAD II monoblocks designed by Peter Walker.

They are considered to be among the best vintage amplifiers and match very well to Klipsch loudspeakers.

They were resprayed in the past but they look new and sound great.I have installed new mullard ef86's as well as a nos quad of Brimar 6L6G tubes(the original kt66 are long gone but the brimars sound nearly as good). They apear original inside and still have the original capacitors. The serial # are very close(80751 and 80781) and they operate on 200 - 250V.

    First 800$+shipping gets them.

I can email more photos if requested.

    Thanks

  3. I am using the M8136 that are identical in construction. To my ears, they are the best 12au7's around (I have never heared the Telefunken ecc802s).

They sound very dynamic and detailed with very tight base and I prefer them to the standard Mullard/Amperex and the Telefunken 12au7.

  4. Freud,

I am totaly in love with Paris and have visited your city few times.

My ALK's were designed for the klipschorn,Belle and Lascala and I don't think that they can be used in your Cornwalls.

If I were you,I would have rebuilt the original type B crossovers with better parts.I have used Solen 10 awg Litz inductor and Hovland capacitors and got an excellent results.

    Thanks for contacting me,

    Guy

  5. Rune,

I have just returned from a 3 week vacation and it is still nice to hear that you still enjoy your type A crossover as I still do.

I have compared the type A to my ALK and the type A is the clear winner all the way.I have done so by using the same Hovland 2.2mf capacitor from the ALK crossover in my new type A crossover and detected a very noticeable improvement especially in soundstage depth and even better definition.

    Trader,

I have also prefered the ALK crossovers over my 25 year old AA's,but after that I've built the type A with highest quality parts,I have discovered what I was missing and I think that you should consider rebuilding your original type A crossovers with better parts and you will be amazed.

    BTW,

I am about to sell my ALK crossovers,so if anyone is interested, kindly email me.

    Thanks,

    Guy

  6. I have decided to stop trying to modify my Klipschorns.

I have just bought a pair of JBL L300 speakers and connected them to my system. The result is that the L300 are better than the Khorns in almost every aspect and since looks are important to me as well I won't ruin the klipsch looks by trying different drivers/horns/tweeters and listen to them as they are now with my type A crossover, and just switch between the L300 and the Khorns whenever I'm in a mood for a change.

At the moment, the JBL L300 are my main speakers.

  7. Hi,

I own 3 Scott 265A tube monoblocks that I plan to restore.Aparently they are all been touched in the past and I can't find the circuit schematics.

I know that it was published in the march 1955 edition of Radio Electronics.

Doe's anyone have that edition by any chance or any other info that might help me bring these monsters back to life?

    Many thanks

    Guy
