I have owned the 9090DB for few years but allways prefered the H/K Twin powered 630.

I have'nt tried to remove the woofer inductor yet.

I have heared that the Solen inductors are more suitable than the Alphacore but it might be just a rumor.

I have let the inductor burn in for 2 weeks in my ALK crossover it began to sound good after 15 hours of playing.Please take into consideration that capacitors need even more time.

It would be intersting to compare the Audio note's to the Hovlands/Multicaps.

I am not saying that Al's crossovers are not good.I have lived with Al's crossovers for more than 2 years and they are indeed very good and much better than the stock AA's.I am not under estimating Q-man's audition but I guess that my system is more revealing than his.I would like to add that I can enjoy listening to my system at even lower level than before and was surprised to hear much greater detail at all frequencies from the lower bass till the higher highs including an amazing and natural midrange,which means that less information is lost on the way.

If anyone of you guys are planning to visit Israel in the future(even though it's not the greatest time),you are welcome to come and visit and have a listen and do all the comparisons.

Paul Klipsch prefered the 1st order crossover as Bruce Edgar.I do prefer them to the type AA and to the ALK's since my amp has no trouble driving the type A and the sound is much bigger with more focus and detail.

The type A is a 6db octave crossover.It was used in the 60's khorns and was changed to a 18db octave with tweeter protection(type AA) when hgh power solid state amplfication became popular.It is very simple to build and it sounds much better to my ears than my original type AA.I run a low power Marantz tube monoblocks and don't need to worry about damaging the tweeters.

As you can see,I have used the best parts:Solen 10awg Litz inductor,multicap and hovland capacitors and the T2 transformer from my AA crossover.

VTL used to have a line preamp with an eq,called the Ultimate equalizer.It had the linestage of the VTL ultimate + a bass and treble slopes that could be bypassed.I have seen one on audiogon few months back for around 1k.If it does sound like my VTL Ultimate it should be a winner.

I have owned the Marantz 7 reissue preamp.

It was one of the most musical preamps I have ever heared and it had tone controls.I have replaced it with a pair of vintage Marantz model 1's.I liked the musical model 7 more than the hifi-ish model 1's.

The classic model 7 reissue probably won't lose much of its value.

The fact that I can fit an EV T350 to the cabinet is more apealing but I might settle for the Beymas.

The H/K twinpowered series receivers are the most musical receivers of their time.

I have recently hooked up my H/k 630 after years of neglection and was amazed by the sound quality.

I think it is a real bargain with a built quality to last a lifetime.After listening to it,you can often ask yourself if the audio industry did progress in the last 30 years?

I think that it gets the same answer regarding Klipsch Heritage series-PROBABLY NOT.

I am using Transparent Audio musichord speaker cable for the internal wiring.It does sound cleaner.

I am using OCOS for speaker wire and really recommend it.It sounds better than the Goerts silver and Vandenhhul revelation in my system.It is much cheaper and looks nice too.

I was using a 2.4 mH Solen 10awg litz inductors.I have felt that the bass goes lower,the sound is more open and detailedand the focus was better as well.

I think that you'll like the result.

I would like to add that I know that some amplifiers may experience driving difficulties with the type A and for that reason the ALK xover is better in that respect by having a less demanding 8 ohm load and puts less energy to the tweeter.The ALK sounds much better than my previous type AA and probably better than most other xovers.If I would have been using a solid state amp or a budget tube amp,the ALK xover is STILL my first choice,but since that my Marantz model 2 amps are equipped with excellent output xformers and don't have any problems driving the Khorns,I'll stay with the type A for a while.

Last night I have finished building the type A crossover.I have used Solen 10awg litz inductor(I have let them break in for 2 weeks in my ALK crossover)and have used the 2.2mf hovland from the ALK and 13mf ppmfx multicaps the T2 from my original type AA.

All I can say is WH W.

I do think that simpler is better.I remember how I was impressed with the ALK's and now these guys sound better to my ears.The sound is fuller and the bass goes even lower and the mids are more detailed.I have listened to my father's JBL olympus loudspeakers few weeks ago and was hearing new things especially in the mids(JBL 375).I have listened to my Khorns after installing the new type A xovers and nothing is missing now.

I understand that there's no tweeter protection but I normally listen to music at moderate levels and using a 20 watts tubed Marantz monoblocks.I can listen at lower levels now as well because of the extra bass weight.

I really recommend the type A crossover to anyone with a low power tube or SS amps they are amazing and it is possible to build them by using most parts from the type AA crosover (by eliminating the tweeter protection diodes,2mf cap and a mid/tweeter inductor)if you like to experiment first,but I do recommend better parts.
