  1. Al, You are the only one who answers my questions or comments. I need a hug......
  2. Ok folks, thanks in advance for your help. I know this has been addresed many times in the past, but sir webmaster has deleted alot of the old threads. We can make this the new official dynamat thread. What is dynamat? Where can I get it? How much do I get? What is rope caulk? Where do I put the rope caulk? (be nice) Does anyone put some on their tweeter? Could someone post a pic of their mod please? I saw Al's 1 inch strips that he used by clicking on his homepage. Did you use rope caulk Al? Perhaps for the sake of completeness some can explain better than I can why they feel dampening the squaker is done....
  3. Al or anyone, Looks like your setup uses 10 ga monster wire for the lows and a smaller guage for the hi's. I too have the monster wire to my stock AA x-overs. I have a three speaker setup that uses alot of wire. Was thinking of running the same lenght of a smaller guage wire with my monster already in to the new ALK crossovers. Would save alot of $$$$ vs getting new biwire cable. What guage should the smaller wire be? Does it need to be any special ratio from the thicker stuff? Here's a really dumb question...since both are connected to the same point on the amp, so presumably the same signal comes out both wires on the other end, why not run 8 or 6 guage and split it on the crossover end?
  4. but not in women????...only jesting you..... Klipschorns, basset hounds???? Tell me you are a sports nut and I'll move to Modesto tomorrow. See my post under Mods and Odds, "Show us your heritage speakers"
  5. What is a mil-spec crimper? $100 to crimp? It's tight, it's crimped right?
  6. One and for all folks...is there any difference in the qualitiy of different brands and types of spades as far as connectivity. I think I've solved the problem of fitting the large guage wire in the spades that will fit onto the #6 screws that is used in Klipsch crossovers, Al's custom ones, and old Mcintosh amps with terminal blocks. I've got the cheapies from Lowe's described in the thread below (Klipschorn Crossover connections--ALK) by Al. I also got some from Parts Express as suggested (gold colored material, but really gippo) and got some that Monster makes (that are a tad too wide, but can be grinded to fit), and also some from Audioquest that are a real ***** to make fit the larger guage wire. The ones that crimp the best, fit the wire best, and fit the #6 screws best are the gippo ones from Lowe's. I don't know what material they are (tin colored, but at $5 for 50, I'm guessing not silver (lol). OKKKK, so here's the yes/no question. Connectively speaking only, any difference between the gold more expensive spades and the Lowe's ones?
  7. Tell him to get his butt home. I'm ready to order my crossovers....BTW...is there a library of "Dope from Hope" available? Be nice if Klipsch would put them online with some sort of search feature. I have a question regarding resistor values and configurations between the one published in "Dope from Hope" vs the one Al made for his center channel. Al's seem more simple and without pots.
  8. What does Klipsch think of his ALK custom crossovers?
  9. Anyone know what happened to Al Klappenberger? Hasn't been answering his posts lately......
  10. You guys that want to buy a single Belle for a center channel for your K-horns should get together and buy a pair on e-bay or somewhere. Easier to find a pair unless buying new and special order. When I ordered mine in 1982 I sent a pic of my K-horns to Klipsch and they did a remarkable job of matching the grain patterns in the wood. Looks like they are a matched set of 3 instead of being 2 years apart.....
  11. Klewless, We were only kidding. We all have these speakers because we hate them. Can see were you get your name.(kidding again)
  12. Linda, I'll give you $525 for those worthless, baseless *******.
  13. Ray, My k-horns have terminal blocks and screws on my AA crossovers. New ones don't have the same x-overs?
  14. Al, I ordered a load of lugs from parts express as recommended above....hopefully these will fit both ends....if so I'll send you enough to do all 3 of my crossovers with these connectors ok? Fred
  15. Al, Can you get barrier strips that will take 1/4 inch spades rather than the 3/16 inch ones you an Klipsch use on your crossovers? I tried to get 3/16 spades, but wouldn't accept the larger wire. That would make it much easier to hook up to the crossover.
  16. Q, Good one.....I tried to bid $25 on that cup with a cap of $50, but the friggin thing just registered the $50 bid???? Not worth the hassle to try to cancel it...Why don't you bid $51 and get me off the hook? If I end up spending $50 for that cup, I'm planning on taking it on tour like the Stanley Cup...LOL
  17. Al, Good job....A Mcintosh man....That really warms my heart.... Fred
  18. Sure, I'll come over and have a listen. Split the airfare? LOL...Long drive from Seattle...Glad to hear you didn't paint your K-Horns to match your components. Run a post when you get the ALK's hooked up and let us know what you think.
  19. Q, These are Basset Hounds. The one with his head up is exercising......Your system is impressive to say the least. Makes me greatful did I haven't got the home theater bug yet. (rather makes my wife greatful) Have you changed anything since these posts? Did you ever get the ALK's? Did you really paint the K-Horns black to match your components? I think I would get some walnut shelf paper and stick to my components before I did that. LOL....
  20. There are my babies bought in 1982 for $2400 for the corners and $1100 for the Belle. Power by Macintosh (of course). Pretty sweet, but am looking forward to getting a set of Al's crossovers. Anyone have any of the exotic wood models? Let's see them. Someone post some La Scala, Heresy, and Cornwall pics. Maybe we can have a category called "Show us your Wallet" for pics of components......
  21. I called the Macintosh technicians today and they basically said the same thing. Any benefit that would be gained by not having the amp turned off and on would more than be lost in tube life. Mac has a unit called a PC-4 that goes for under $100 that daisy chains from the Mac switching plug on the C-15 to the Mac 202 that has 6 or 7 switched ac plug on it. Going to order it. Seems the best plan. Thanks everyone for your help...
  22. Al, The main problem I have with the screw connectors on the Klipsch crossovers is that the + and - screws are so close together. Thus if you are using a bigger cable and want to connect with bare wire it's a ***** to connect. There are more sexy binding posts that are available similiar to the ones one the new Mac autoformer amps, that would do your ALK's proud. After all, might as well make them as good looking as your crossovers. Just a thought.....
