  1. yup ! the lower woofer disconnected in both towers. it sounds a little thin. but i guess that is what suits the room. and after a 30 forty seconds your ears tend to accept it very nicely. perhaps previously , the sound was boomed up in the ranges of 60 and 90 hz.now that un acceptable "attack" is gone........for good.[] im thinking of putting in a simple switch inside the towers to do this. it will allow easy switching between single or twin woofer functioning. wouldnt that be nice ? also i need expert opinions on the technical aspects of whats going on when im doing this disconnection. 1) i mean what impedance and sensitivity changes occur ? 2) what happens to the single woofer, now filling up the whole cabinet of RF-3 ,instead of 2 woofers earlier on.is it over loaded, or will it run just fine just like some RB 5 or RB 81 ? 3) what wire should i use to add to the switch ,so that quality is unaffected ? 4) is this configuration done by any one else , well if youve done this , does it sound similar to the other ref bookshelves, like, just for instance, RB5s..........???
  2. sorry double post but it is right here and wrong there ,so here it is , Today i was experimenting again with my combination .when all of a sudden this idea came to my mind to see how a single woofer driven RF 3 would sound like . at first ,i may tell you that i have always been satisfied with the bookshelf speakers .and my room has no better acoustics than a poorly designed studio .so tall tower speakers fail to sound good no matter what gear i use .period. hence , i disconnected the lower woofer by gently removing it from the cabinet and its jumper cable ,followed by placing the woofer back . the sound was almost the same ,but more favorable , i must tell you,it sounded much better .perhaps the dual woofer was over-doing the room resonances and adding a strange boom that is less bugging when smaller bookshelf speakers are played here . in short , it was a rewarding experiment .and i love the sound .just wanted to share . any random comments are welcome.
  3. hi guys, today i was experimenting again with my combination .when all of a sudden this idea came to my mind to see how a single woofer driven RF 3 would sound like . at first ,i may tell you that i have always been satisfied with the bookshelf speakers .and my room has no better acoustics than a poorly designed studio .so tall tower speakers fail to sound good no matter what gear i use .period. hence , i disconnected the lower woofer by gently removing it from the cabinet and its jumper cable ,followed by placing the woofer back . the sound was almost the same ,but more favorable , i must tell you,it sounded much better .perhaps the dual woofer was over-doing the room resonances and adding a strange boom that is less bugging when smaller bookshelf speakers are played here . in short , it was a rewarding experiment .and i love the sound .just wanted to share . any random comments are welcome.
  4. neo33, im sorry the thread has taken the wrong turn from the hugh hefner thing.go figure. JB likes em alot .
  5. last but not the least , this would have been the result of my pm6 if i had hired a photographer from HUGH HEFFNERS company.
  6. In my experience, the age group you mention is far more likely to enjoy the sound of horn type speakers! As high frequency hearing declines with age, the fatigue some complain of when using horns with crappy solid state electronics becomes less apparent. I've encountered far more complaints about the sound of horn type speakers from much younger listeners.... i disagree. your view implies that other non horned brands know better than klipsch how to generate 14k and above frequencies and make em amiable to youngsters too. []
  7. it turned out to be a set of dry solds . it working flawless now .thanks god
  8. my techy agrees to have a look at it tonight after 9pm. perhaps its not something big of an issue . well atleast i hope it is not big. last night after it blew , i opened up the top cover and examined carefully . couldnt find anything burnt or fused . but still im no techy . so i left it as such for him. there was a system protection feature that did come into play yesterday. the amp tripped itself down for 7 seconds as the signal distorted beyond half volume . i wasnt playing on klipsch ,they were disconnected.i played on my cheaper headfones(just to be safe). the amp reset itself after 7 seconds . well theres perhaps little feedback here so im not gonna waste enrgy typing , rather id just visit the shop for repairs.
  9. the esotec died [:'(] a small blast occurred inside while i was connecting and fiddling the source input ... im so unhappy now .
  10. hmmm, true. perhaps what shows up itself ultimately is the amount of energy put into each product and the intentions of the designers and the makers regardless of the brand or price. []
  11. boy there shoulda ben a different forum altogether for marantz .[]
  12. sheltie, no sheltie, correction here plz. the 30 yr oldy is the pm-6 .and i clearly regard the mf a1 to be sounding better than the 2230 . which as of now is out of the competition .sweet sounding and coloured in a typical marantz fashion.the pm-6 is comparable to MF A1 when its time for neutral natural sound, without much colouration. the competitor to mf A1 these days is the pm-6 which functions in class A by default too. 2230 doesnot [] o boy you have a pm-5 ....????? ofcourse the looks of marantz are way more impressive, the MF A1 is one heck of a hideous one , but it sounds awesome. anyways . i highly regard the looks of the esotec and the 22xxes.... describe your views on that pm-5 plz.how are you using it and with what... how do you describe its sound ...
  13. youve started up a war !!! now sit back and relax . perhaps an orange juice and a couch and an umbrella and some top end music shud do......
  14. clinical sounding? well maybe ? but what i really felt clinical sounder was my Diatone DA P7 pre power amp . to the point that i kept it for a week and then gave away . though it was also detailed and articulate . but there wasnt any pleasure and bass . i always had unhappiness. but with this marantz i dont think ill ever part with it. noooops . it is typically warmer , as marantz are, and has good grammage .and the musical details are more evident..... but it has not kicked out the MF A1 amp. ill now play with its pre and power separability options. [] atleast now i have 120 watts of power fed to klipsch for the first time. []
  15. the friend i got it from also suggested playing it with kef speakers .kef coda II which he had tried out. he also owns DM 220 B&Ws and a tannoy 12 inch dual concentric(dont remember the name ) i think the forwardness of klipsch RF-3s may not be ideal of a match with this amp in particular. to me the sound has everything nice and clear . forwarded and detailed . the power it delivers could be wall breaking. i saw a brief fight scene from the KING KONG ,the scene with three Tyrannos and the poor lone Kong. the bass had detail and clarity even at 115dbs (5 feet from speakers ).dont worry, ears were cupped . i focused on overall control . and it did a pretty good job there. guys i feel that the background noise is lower but not as mute as my QUAD's. also i have not attached a cd player these days .my sony x33es is at a cousins place.so im just running my PC sound card here . OUCH . i shouldnt be treating PM 6 this bad way. [].. on my headfones the pm6 sounds warm and clear.theres that typical marantz sweetness. and yes in class A the extra noise goes away.it runs mmore cleaner. anyways.Im looking for your comments guys. ah yes ! photos are under way .hold on to it. amigos.
  16. i remember when i brought home my third marantz , the model 2230. the feeling was ecstatic. euphoria ran for a month ! and boy i did love the sound too. and i use to describe it as if you were served a glass of plain water sweetened by three teaspoons of sugar . this has not been the case with this PM-6 . am i disappointed ? no ! but not exhilerated either . it is one of my audio dreams to acquire classics . and here i am. but i guess i have not given it much of a detailed listen yet . perhaps you guys could comfort me too[][][]
  17. guys i wonder and am a bit skeptical as to whether this set is a superior performer to musical fidelity A1 or not . both run in class A . i doubt if it is gonna send the MF A 1 back to STORAGE . []
