I think Al's crossovers make my K-Horns sound more revealing. The closer tolerances also equate to the improved imaging over the old crossover. Couple this with bad electronics and you will get that harsh sound. I have a Rotel RCD-971 with clock upgrade running thru a Bryston .5b pre and Bryston 4B amp. No tone controls and this setup sounds wonderful. Damn near flat!!! If I connect an older cd player (Carver) or say an old pioneer receiver the bright/harsh sound reappears. If you are going to skimp on electronics then I suggest buying some Polks or Boston Acoustics, much less revealing. Just my 2 cents.....

I built Al's crossover exactly per specification and they sound wonderful. Unless you enjoy spending hours on a soldering iron, tinning "Litz" wire, ordering parts, and dealing with backorders spend the extra money and buy Al's already built. Myself, I like the challenge and the hobby.

I checked the resistor and it is fine. This is a intermitant problem and only shows up when playing loud. I guess it needs to break down completly to pinpoint. I like to compensate the neighbors noise from the the new pool they just built 3' from my property line! I usually stand in the other room with remote when checking full output. Not good for the ears at 124+ db!!!!

The crossover is wired correctly. Resistor is after the caps and choke as shown om terminal #5. I built it to the exact standards as specified in drawings by Al K. It may be the ear deafening levels @ +124db causing the heat! The amp is not oscillating. I do not have a fuse in my crossover. I have never blown a speaker based on the my theory that power does not always kill, DC does.

Al, Mark Levinson No. 23 200wpc. It benchs at 288wpc both channels driven. It will not clip easily though on musical peaks. I was playing at concert levels. It did get hot! Will resistors temporarily change value?

I have the ALK's and the 10 ohm resistor gets very hot when playing load. Then the horns start to distort like a bad connection. I know I dont have a bad connection because of connection type. Could the autoformer have a bad connection? Then again has anyone had that much power on their KHorns? Amp is a Mark Levinson No. 23

I have the fix!!!!! K-43 woofer , McIntosh tube amp or similar No tone controls and it rocks With Bryston 4B it hurts!

How would you measure the chokes? Al, any crude ways to measure these coils? Meter,scope,generator,load resistors?

Al, I have a pair of CP-1 crossovers. Can I use the T2A auto-tx for your design? They have a total of 6 terminal taps

I aquired (3) CP-1 Klipsch crossovers What speakers are these from? I suspect maybe LaScala or commercial version LaScala

Why do I read a total of 39.5uf with 39uf & 1uf bypass paralleled on Al's crossover. Does the typical caps in parallel formula not apply to this?
