  1. The story of Henry Ford II spending $25 million 1965 dollars (over $200,000,000 in 2019 dollars) to develop the Ford GT40 and humiliate Enzo Ferrari. Ferrari was previously willing to sell Ford all of Ferrari to Ford for $10,000,000. Of course, Carroll Shelby was heavily involved in development but could no longer race himself at that point.

I think HF II was not a man to have as an enemy.

Do you remember The Chris Isaak Show?  It followed the daily lives of Chris and his band members.  The only actual actor was the keyboard player.  The other band members did a decent job of playing themselves, though.  It was a slice-of-life show with occasional comedy.

To get to the point, Chris was was driving something like a high-miler 1965 Chevy II that would run on after being shut off.  His manager said he deserved (and could afford) something better, so she bought him a late-model BMW sedan, complete with voice navigation.  After a short drive, he said the car had to go.  When the manager asked why, he said that he recognized the voice of the navi unit.  It was an ex-girlfriend of his (the entertainment industry is not that big after all), and he really didn't need her telling him where to go in his new car, since he'd had enough of that when they were together.

The agent understood and quickly got rid of the car.

He should have hacked into the navigation system (easy) and replaced it with the accent he really wanted. A German woman threatening to send him to the Russian Front perhaps. "Turn left in precisely 500 metres or you will be Shot!"

It's a pity the art school didn't accept Mr. H.  His paintings weren't bad.  If he'd become a reasonably successful artist, he might never have gone into politics and might have spared the world one of the most horrible periods in history.  That rejection led to the loss of so many lives.  History can turn on the smallest things...

Whatever the motive: Between Stalin (including his purges) and him, they managed to depopulate Europe by about 100 million people in ~15 years. Two whackos in power involving themselves in an all out racial and war to gain additional lands was not good.

    Hi All

    car people

    I have a Q

How much difference in tire pressure to ambient temp?

Yesterday, wife head off to work, at 7AM, 40`.  Tire pressure idiot light comes on. She parks it and gets a ride with a co-worker.  I get to it around 10AM, 80`.  Put the gauge on all tires ... 32psi.  33 is recommended. So, I did not add any. This AM, I checked them .... 23 - 24psi. Brought them up to "cold" spec.

     Brings another Q

    What constitutes a cold tire?

Is it a Honda Factory Tire Pressure Monitor or?

Tube is where I would like to go.I listen at around 60-75 decibels mostly, except when I drink a lot of beer..LOL. I'm looking for good detail and able to drive the cornscalas well enough to be happy.I'm in no way over the top in what I'm looking for as I've been using my home theater receiver A Denon 6400 in one room the other has the Denon 6500 which was a recent upgrade from the Denon 4500.

I listen in about the same range. Until the door closes behind someone who operates like a walking, talking volume control and then I crank it up; if RnR.

Tube or Solid State ?  with cornscalas you can literally use about any amp from flea watt to skys the limit in power.  High power= more headroom and usually harder hitting bass as well as  better 15" bass driver control.  Low power usually means more intimate I'm at a small venue feeling.

What volume do you like to listen at,  rock concert or save my ears / hearing ?  How concerned with detail retrieval are you, Most rock is not recorded well and overly analytical can get strident & dry.  There is alot of info needed to know about your preferences and tastes before any real suggestions can be made

I'd look for a good tube amp with those efficient speakers. There are both commercial models available at that price (usually with Non-Western Made Tubes) as well as vintage and newer used integrated  amps that contain used NOS era tubes.

I have a few amps in each category and would start with a low wattage amp of 18WPC or less. I can easily drive my Belles with 1.5 WPC. Also get the neighbors complaining with 18 WPC amp turned up high.

    Nope.

I believe that California passed the Coastal Act to enshrine this in law. Some fool with more brains than money could challenge it but until that occurs successfully the State's Law should prevail.

I've never been denied access to the few beaches I visit up north.

  8. The boys at my youngest daughter's on Halloween. At least one of them is thinking 'kill me' before sending me to the door to greet kids in this getup. So he decided to hide and leave the niece (in the background) with that job. Most kid's at the door apparently enjoyed being licked.

The beach is WAYYYYYY overpriced for those interested.  Lived by it (most of my life) and been to it every year prior.  DO NOT pay for it is my advice

Pay? Unless you need to pay to park on private lands. Are not all beaches and navigable waters in the USA access free?

i left just because i wanted to get away and experience something different. I was also getting tired of working and Huntington Beach isn’t the cheapest place to live, so i knew that if i stayed living in SoCal, i would have to keep working.

I paid a half million for a house in SoCal back in 2004 and that was just a run of the mill tract home.

I do miss the place though ... especially the weather and the ocean. I was at the beach every weekend -- not sunbathing ... just hanging out, walking around, enjoying being outside.

What’s wrong the beaches in Oregon? They seemed pretty nice when we stayed near the coast there a few years back. Some small town near the Tilamook Dairy (Rockaway?). Got a nice free tour of the dairy too and free ice cream.

strangely, Oregon is about 2% higher in income tax than i was paying in California; but Oregon doesn’t have any sales tax whereas I was paying 7.75% in SoCal.

Over 8 percent sales tax here in AZ. No Provincial sales tax in Alberta but the Fed’s whack us with a five percent VAT. At least the weather is better in the south and liquor cheaper. Except at the Airport Duty Free here since ownership changed hands.

No Antifa or Proud Boys nutz here that I’ve seen either.

Like Canada, you're probably taxed to death there. With the government controlling all the alcohol being brought into the state. 😉

I HATE whiskey and bourbon. This thread is USELESS without pics

There's always Whisky: Scotch, Irish and Canadian Rye are all Whisky's. Whiskey's include Bourbon which is made mostly with corn I believe. HFCS also comes from corn.

  14. Nothing a 12 gauge loaded with birdshot at the ready couldn't resolve. Assuming that they co-operate and leave city limits during hunting season (which is now in a lot of places). Best to back off several yards and give them 'fair warning' first though. Next stop, some cleaning, plucking and a big roast pan.

Per Anthony Hopkins: Best served 'with a side of Fava Beans and a nice Chianti'.

BTW, what do/did KISS and A. Hitler have in common?  They both practiced their stage moves in front of a mirror.  No joke.  True story.

I suspect, based on listening to both, that SHitler could probably sing and play instruments just as well as that band of clowns. Too bad he turned out to be a megalomaniac murdering people just because they were different than him.

Small world. The kabobs pictured below are from lunch here today. We had the first batch here on Sunday so these were the leftovers. Originals on my Lodge made Japanese Hibachi and Mesquite Lump Charcoal. Reheated on the wife's electric BBQ in aluminum foil:

Kroger just started carryintg Tillamook here in Ohio @Wolfbane.  Used a dollar off coupon for some of their ice cream.  Not too shabby but definitely not worth their normal price.  Now I see they have their cheese line too.  No coupon so no tryee!  lol  Seems like a haul coming here from the Northwest.  Wonder if they'll stock it or not.  The ice cream was pretty good though just pricey.

Best to get their aged white cheddar if you ever try their Cheddar Cheese. I can’t abide orange dye in cheese but it seems quite common in North America. The aged white cheddar that WSU sells is even better. It comes vacuum packed in a can that requires an opener. The can being a holdover from WWII, also let’s you age it for decades as long as you keep the can unopened during that time.

Reminds me of of a woman I dated in college.  One evening toward the end of our senior year she was filling out applications (remember the paper versions) for teaching positions.  She asked me what they meant by,  “How many books do you have in your professional library?”  I explained that they want to know how many books she owns about education, specifically physical education, as that was her major.  She replied, “none.”  I said surely, you have some old textbooks, just write in a number.  She put, “approximately eighteen.”  I groaned, but did not correct her, after all, she was a phys-ed major.

She got the job and married a guy she had gone with before he went to Vietnam.  Apparently, I was merely filling a void.

Apparently, someone else was filling it in more fully.

Agreed, but now I just purchase all of my meat from friends that raise the animals.  All the benefits, none of the hassle.  I have named the specific cows and pigs that we were purchasing but the wife drew the line when I tool a picture of one of the cows and named it snickers and hung the picture up next to the big freezer.

I’d name them: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
