  1. From all the positive reviews for the DAC and Odyssey Tempest, hope I am getting a good start without hurting my jaw . It seems you were just lucky getting good deals from ebay and audiogon. I just can't find any used Odyssey Tempest and DACs anywhere. I may just go get new ones. Tommy at DAC is offering deep discounts and I may just get a Cherry. New Tempest is now $1325 . For speakers, I just have the smaller RF-62 for now. Even the DAC4800A would be too much for them, don't you think? Hope I wouldn't get it wrong for taking this short cut... Others, any other suggestions for this newbie to start with? Best Regards Yes, I know I was in the right place at the right time with my purchases. I've seen other DAC4800a's on Audiogon before and Odyssey Tempest's. My DAC4800a is definitely much more power than I need, but the sound amazing at ANY volume, that's what got me to purchase mine and I never use probably more that 25 watts. Sure it's overkill but I've never heard anything like it. Sure it would be overkill for RF-62's, but who says you have to use all the amp. Not sure if it would all make sense for you at retail prices, how's your budget? Wish you could find used stuff like I did and that it all works flawlessly. I'm sure you'll get many suggestions for other options. Best Regards
  2. Hi again cjpcsy, I noticed that I didn't answer your question as to what kind of music I listen to. These days I sometimes listen to some of the rock and some of the pop of the 70's, 80's, 90's (not all that often anymore). Right now music that is very appealing and interesting to me is: Tatu, Pink, Muse, Lady GaGa, Depeche Mode, Enya, and many others. I've always gotten a kick out of music that has kick, it you know what I mean. [] What do you listen to??? Best Regards
  3. Do you ever what the people that sold the stuff on E-bay and Audiogon upgraded to? That's the first thing I thought of each time I upgraded. [] Best Regards
  4. Hi cjpcsy, Good to hear from you. I haven't had a chance to listen to the "Cherry", but from what the DAC4800A sounds like - the Cherry has to be ever more incredible. The sound from the "Combo" is unbelievably Tight, Fast, Accurate, Clean, Sound Stage like I've Never heard, Super Open. With the "Combo" Klipsch RF-5's, Two Klipsch RSW-10d's, DAC4800A, Odyssey Tempest and Sony XA777ES, I ask myself "How Could Anything Sound Better". I know it's out there!! Having been exposed to many different "Combos" over my life time, including Home Audio and Live Performances, this is a step above all the rest!! If you've been to Live Shows and liked what you heard, This Combo sounds like the "Live" performance is in your living Space. Every Time I listen to it, I am Completely Amazed all over again, Every Time!!! I just can't believe that I own this system. I could go on and on about it, got to be heard to be believed. Best Regards
  5. Hello. Would anyone know how to run two RSW-10d subs in stereo? As you most likely aready know, if you run one all you do is supply left and right channels via two rca interconnects. This gives both left and right channels Through one sub. I used to run two paradigm subs that only took one rca interconnect per sub which made it easy to supply right and left channels to two seperate subs. I'm running two RSW-10d subs and thought I was running in stereo untill I decided to upgrade interconnects and realized I'm just running both the same way, meaning that they are both getting the exact same left and right channel signals. So you know, I only have normal preamp outs (one set of left and right) that I have split into three different signals, one to the Amp and two to the subs. I wondered at first if my preamp could handle this, but has had no problems at all, the subs and the system sound incredible, but what would it sound like if the subs were running in stereo instead of mono? Was thinking that maybe spitting the signal and sending two right signals to one of the subs and two lefts to the other??? Does anyone know if this would work?? Thanks so much!!
  6. Just found this thread and I too own a pair of RF-5's. Have them connected to a Digital Amplifier Company 4800a 350 wpc amp and an Odyssey Tempest Preamp, running with two Klipsch RSW-10d sub's in stereo and a Sony XA777ES cd player. "TO ME" the sound was an Epiphany!! I could go on and on about it, "TO ME" the sound was/is life Altering. The only other Klipsch speakers I've owned are KG 3.5's, which also amazed me at the time, (they are still great) which lead me to looking for even better Klipsch speakers. Have owned a fair share of equipment over 30 years, some very good some better. The funny or amazing thing is that I arrived at this system in recent years mostly by reading about it NOT by auditioning, It's amazing because it's EXACTLY what I always wanted to hear from my system. Have also heard many different systems and the RF'5s running with this system HANDS DOWN sounds like Heaven compared to the rest Speakers I have owned and very much liked, BUT still left me looking for something else are: Bose 901's IV ESS Amt 1b's SpeakerLab Super Seven's Bose 401's Advent ??? Paradigm Titans with a pair of pdr-10 subs Klipsch KG 3.5's Of course, had several different amps, receivers and preamps in the combo: MacIntosh MC2105 amp with MacIntosh C26 preamp MacIntosh MA6200 integrated amp "Newer" Harmon Kardon 45 wpc integrated amp Stax Class A, 100 wpc amp w/ dj mixer "Older" Harmon Kardon 35 wpc receiver Sanyo Plus 100 wpc amp w/ preamp "Early days" - Pioneer 80 wpc integrated amp All in All, my jaw is still on the floor with the RF-5's. Best Regards[]
  7. My Face hurts from Laughing!!Love it,
  8. I like your style too, gp_phan! I think you are going to fit in just fine around here. So, what have you been listening too? As I said before, I am so glad you have a set-up you are passionate about. Most of us are passonate about our set-ups also, as you can see. Stick around and enjoy the fun, some of the worlds best people are here! Dennie Thank You so much!! Music I've been listening to hmmm, I think what I listen to often may be a bit off the beaten path. Some yes some no, I'll start with some music (I think) isn't off the beaten path: Pink, Yes, Rush, Moody Blues, Roxy Music, Paul Hyde, Super Tramp. Some that (may be) a bit off the beaten path: Right now I'm a big fan of the group TATU, If you or (some) others don't know who they are, they're a pop group from Russia and Depeche Mode from Germany (I think). Like many things in the world, I often wonder what makes us like this or that music, interesting isn't it ?? When it comes to music, I tend to be in a smaller group (I think ?? maybe yes maybe no??). I grew up in the Northern US, literally could look out the front door and see Canada across the Saint Lawrence River. (one mile) Back in the mid to late 1970's the only FM station I could get was Chez 106 (pronounced Chea) out of Ottawa Canada. Not sure if it was it that influenced me or if - it - was the only station that was playing what made sense to me. Loved It!! Anyway, it played a lot of progressive music and it Energized me, till then music was good, but this new progressive/new age music really gave me the Zeal !! Anyway, I'm now 49 almost 50 years old and it's still the same, Really love a lot of new music and styles, still love a lot of older music too. How does that all make sense?? Good Question, just 18 at heart I guess. (watch out for that mirror) Best Regards Again, Thank You ALL for being so Gracious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. sebrof, Please except my sincere Apologee, I have jumped the gun and reacted less than honorably! I promise to you and everyone else that it won't happen again. Thanks for getting me to see the Light!!! If you all don't mind I'd like to stay awhile, we definitely have similar interests. Really am very sorry! Best Regards
  10. What type of live recordings are you jammin'? I really dig live music that is recorded well......I know where you're coming from. Enjoy what you have......it's good stuff. SWL, Glad you dig l live music and recorded live music, what I was saying is that I love live performance sound as in concerts and other live venues. I don't have any live recordings, but this system makes everything sound as if you were at a live show - realism! Best Regards
