thats exactly what it is.... its vibrating against the wood and its really annoying. I'll see about using silicone

So i was enjoying listening to my RF-7's today and noticed a rattle. So i thought, "ok no big deal it has to be my entertainment center." I looked and looked but couldnt find it till low and behold I found the culprit. Its the port tubes!.... or whatever you call them. They seem to be loose and rattle everytime the speakers are working hard. Any advise on what to do to secure the port tubes would be helpful. thanks
-
yea i noticed some of the outer cosmetic detail differences but like both so thats no biggie
-
is there any difference in the two besides one is newer?
-
i was only curious to see, from people that have 63's, how many watts there pushing them with.....
-
i was just curious to see how much power your pushing through your 63's and with what gauge wire?
-
no it doesnt. so im just gonna go the rca rout. looks like monoprice has some really good deals so i might as well try them out.
-
thank you for simplifying that. i was making it a lot harder than it had to be :-p
-
ok. now as far as the 2 different ways to connect to my amp, just plain rca or xlr/rca, whats gonna be best?as far as XLR cables, whats some good suggestions on those as well?
for Monoprice. Check out XLR cables here.
Biwiring your speakers won't make much difference unless you are prepared to bypass the internal xovers in your speakers. I would leave the jumpers on the speakers and connect either the top or bottom pair.
-
so im getting my first amp today and i need some good advise on the type of cables i should use for the cleanest sound possible. should i connect my receiver to my amp with just a plain rca cable or with a xlr/rca cable? im thinkin that the xlr might be better but id like to hear what you have to say......

so your saying dont remove the terminal straps and just run a larger gauge wire....... any suggestions on which rca's to use to connect the receiver to the amp?I don't believe that there is anything to gain from bi-wiring if the original wire is of sufficient gauge. I'd use 12 AWGfrom monoprice.
Can't advise you about interconnnect cables as I don't believe they should play a role in altering the sound

so im getting my xpa-5 amp tomorrow and i need some help with cables. im lookin for the cleanest sound possible, theres just to many different options out there to chose from. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
also......is there options with connection besides receiver goin to the amp with rca's then amp to speakers with bi'wire? would i get more out of my 6inch drivers if i left the jumpers on the speakers terminals and just connected the amp to the bottom posts? all this might sound crazy but im not really sure of the best way to connect my components and with what to connect them with...... :-p

the order is in! i called emotiva today and ordered the XPA-5 in hopes that 200wpc will suffice. but if it doesnt.......then ill wait for their new flaghship to come out, the tentatively named XPR-7. with 400wpc x 7, this thing is truely a beast and should be more that enough for a long time to come. its possible that the new amp will be ready before years end! so we'll see......Another option I've seen a few guys on here and elsewhere do is use a XPA-3 for the fronts and center and use your receiver to power the rear 4 channels.
But if you think you'll ever go to a pre/pro you might be better going a different route.
-
ive been tryin to do as much research on emotiva as i can before i make my purchase. all the research ive done has made me confident that emotiva will perform as expected. i kinda wish they made a 7 channel amp that pushed 200wpc. that would be ideal for what i want. all the other good amps that ive looked at with 200wpc x7 are soo expensive when compared to the xpa 5 and 2 configuration. at the moment emotiva seems like the best way to go. as for a pre amp, i havent been lookin all that much for one yet. the usp-1 will prob be in my future though.BC,
Welcome to the forum. We all tend to learn and still make mistakes, too, from time to time as well.
How do you like the Emotiva products? Are you thinking about using the Pre amp and Amps from Emotiva also?
I saw your Pioneer Elite VSX-01TXH has:
-
Amplifier Output Details
110 Watt - 8 Ohm - THD 0.09 % - 7 channel(s) ( Surround )
That is a great start for sure.. The Elite products are very nice too.
Most will say for HT you might need 200 WPC + for headroom, dynamics, and especially in a mid to bigger sized rooms when you want it loud too.
That said, It looks as though your on the right track! Congrats!!

nice sub! im sure that HGS15 hits like king kong on steroids. i am looking at upgrading my CT-12 soon. i havent head any of there newer 12' models though. No problem BC. Ask all the questions you want. That's how you learn.
BTW, my first sub was a Velodyne CT-100 (10" with 100 watt amp), then upgraded to the Velodyne F1500 (15" with 250 watt amp), and now own the Velodyne HGS15 (15" with 1250 watt amp). Love the Velos. My guess is that eventually you will want to upgrade your sub. Look for them used, lots of great deals out there.

i kinda over looked the calibration part of that question. my fault. <===== newbee hahaeven though the power difference is only 50w between the center and the fronts you dont think the center will come up short or sound lacking?
Not at all. That's what your calibration is for. It will boost or reduce the levels to match them. Also remember, you have to DOUBLE the power to get a 3dB increase in volume. So you will never hear 50w difference between 200watts and 250watts.
-
I would use the xpa-2 on the mains and the xpa-5 on the center, sides and rears. The xpa-2 is very robust. I just purchased an xpa-3 to start my Emotiva journey. The xpa-2 is in my future. Happy listening!
BigD
the xpa-2 and the xpa 3 is another good way to go as well for 5.1
thanks BigD

My vote is for Option B. XPA-2 and XPA-5
even though the power difference is only 50w between the center and the fronts you dont think the center will come up short or sound lacking?
-
my question on 7.1 and emotiva is which configuration would be best......
option A) xpa-5 for the fronts, center and sides and a upa-2 (125w x2) for the rears?
option or an xpa-2 for the fronts and the xpa-5 for the center, sides and rears?
i
definitely like the extra power from the xpa-2 to power the fronts, especially for 2 channel stereo, but
will that leave the center lacking for HT? your opions on configuration and options please....i like emotivas prices and there 30 day return policy. i figure if i dont like it i can always return it.

ive looked into sunfire and really really like there TGA-7401. that thing pumps out some serious power! its just to expensive. the TGA-7201 is just as good but still on the pricey sideCan you say SUNFIRE....

typically when im watching a movie i have the volume at about -10.will 200w be enough to make me go "WOW this sounds great."
Let me be the first dessenting voice... Or at least offer another opinion.
You are not starting from a bottom-line receiver. The Elite line has a good rep. I don't know the model you specified; maybe you mistyped 91? A Pioneer Elite VSX-91TXH outputs 110W per channel. Upgrading to 200 W will give you 3 dB more juice, and to 300W will give you 5 dB. While significant, it may not be earth shattering in terms of extra dynamics and SPL. Going higher still is likely to be dangerous to the speakers.
Are you finding that you are turning your volume knob past 0 dB on the dial? I do most of my music listenning at -30 dB or less on a 50W receiver, occasionally up to -10 dB and up to 0 dB on one single drum SACD. I could use the extra 6 dB to 200 W on that one record, and I might be buying a Monster amp from a friend to do just that. But I know I typically listen at 0.1 W per channel rather than 200W.
with music i have it somewhere between -5 and -15, depending on what it
is im listening to. with my pioneer elite (vsx-01txh) pushing 110w per
channel it sounds good but i cant help but say, "hhmm its still missing
something.'' to my ears, at the moment, my speakers lack the output
that i desire. im looking for that full bodied sound that really sucks
u into whatever your listening to. i know the rf-63 are very capble of
doing this much, its just a matter of the components driving them.So you are not looking for more SPL, because you still have about 10 dB of gain left to go. You are hoping for more authority at the same SPL?
Do the RF-63 have a low impedence dip (like the RF-7) or wild phase swings? If not, I'd wager a separate amp won't make much of a difference. Hooking up a Carver m4.0t to the pre-outs of my hk avr-325 receiver didn't affect the sound for me (other than audible hiss from the Carver). I am likely to add an external amp for the 1% of the time when I want more than I get now with the volume dial at 0 dB (50W receiver), just to be able to push those KHorns to their max (but I hope I don't damage them!)
More authority is exactly what im looking for!im not sure
how to answer your low impendence and wild phase swing questions. i
know what "sounds good," but what am i looking for as it relates to
those questions? -
i have a velodyne 12'' sub that kicks like a mule. im just lookin for more output from my 63'sBC- don't think a better will make that much of a difference, if you need more punch, get a sub
Jonathon Valin in The Absolute Sound (Septemebr 09) gave a rave review to the $800 Odyssey Khartago Power Amplifier comparing to much more expensive amplifiers.
