  1. Well if its a La Scala in a Cornwall box the crossover would have needed to be changed some. The horn is different, looks interesting. I didnt see a port in the front... if no front. Id be hard pressed to believe it was ported/designed correctly. Id pass and look to build a CS1.5 or find some real la scala's. Bad imitations you definitly do not want.
  2. If you were building the 2way cornscala (or any cornscala) you could use a Emenice 15c with was the defalt before Bob came up with his woofers. The Selenuim 220ti comes as a 8ohm and as a 16ohm version... to use bob's crossovers you need to use thr 16ohm. I have tried a generic 12" woofer with bobs crossover and it was acceptible... a bit darker. Bob really did something special when he spec'd this woofer... I believe it goes higher then most 12" woofers... I only use his woofer for the CS projects I have build... they are that good. I have tried a ported CS1.5 and the CS1. I find the CS1 an easier build, and didnt miss the bass. The CS1.5 goes lower. The CS1 is like a british monitor on steriods. If I had to chose between 5.1 sound and 2.1 with any verson of cornscala's Id chose the Cornscalas... I have built and some times sell both... I never play my cornscalas if Im trying to sell a CS1.... The sound difference is that pronouced. Bobs flat pack boxs are so cool for building these speakers the right way without all the pain of the learning process. Lastly, I have run cornscalas are 3ways (a few different versions) and most recently as a 2 way. The 2 way setup is very very cool, Im now upgrading to the elipitrac horns.... hoever I recomend Bobs Cornscala type C... I use something similar... the Selenuim D220ti as use a tweeter is a amazing option.
  3. has anyone tried the P. Audio BM-D750 vs the Selenuim D405 in a 3way setup? or the P. Audio BM-D750 vs the Faital HF200 in a the JBL 2380? It seems the P Audio BM-D750 is the same price as the Faital?
  4. Well the rig is back from the finisher and I must say things have clamed down quite a bit. The Fatial HF200 + Bobs crossover (No HF boost used) is great. My wife and I have struck a deal and Im getting a set of Eliptitrac hors in the next few week. Its the only upgrade left... I sold off a tube pre of mine to fund it. I was speaking with Dave Harris re a custom fit. Dave is being amazing and is willing to mount it for me... WAY COOL! So it will go off to Dave this monday. The M2380 is a huge improvment over the K401... but needed a few hours of break in to calm down. The last upgrade is me getting the coolest horn I can afford! Thanx Bob for the drivers, crossovers and horns... Dave thanx in advance for making this upgrade so painless.
  5. Hard to explain the differences in sound between the K401/K55 Selenuim D220/ HM17-25 and the Faital HF200/M2380. Both use Bob Crites crossovers. The K401 setup seems more relaxed. The M2380 has a bigger sound stage, amazing resolution, but is brighter to me. (Seems brighter with and without HF boost). I’m not sure the M2380 is an improvement... I am in love with the sound of the K401 setup, the M2380 doesn’t sound characteristically different, just different emphasis. The tone/signature is the same. It does seem the M2380 setup is more efficient/louder and able to show its extension with greater smoothness. I will keep listening... right now I have a bit of tone control use and have the treble lowered a bit. With tone controls used, the new M2380 is a better setup. Ill post more detailed and organized impressions soon. The installation of the horns/est cracked my finish on the joints in the front... so its back to get a respray.
  6. I havnt heard... waiting for the cabs to be finished. Despite what many and many have said my K400/K55 sound fanstaic. The new tweeter just helps the speakers disapaer. I hope the 2way will sound better.. Tthe current setup is going to be hard to beat. Bob can tell more about the corssover/horn combo. He told me that the HF boost should address the issues inherant to CD horns... the highs rolling off.
  7. James the hornis a M2380, sourced from Bob Crites, as was my corssover. as far as response... ask Bob he woudl know best. The horn is a copy of the JBL2380 at a 1/3 the price.
  8. 17.5" WIDE x 11" TALL x 9.25: Deep Horn This is a 2" horn. Able to use selenuim, JBL, Faital, etc 2" drivers.
  9. This is the current rig. From 3way to 2 way. I plan to stack the 3way tophat ontop of the 2way for storage. Shoudl allow for easy A/B compairisons.
  10. This driver. Its a Faital HF200 Can go from 400hz to 20Khz. No need for a tweeter. Bob crites and Alk both have crossovers. Im using a constant directivity horn, a clone of the JBL2380 horn. Bob has them for $65 each. A CD horn begins to drop out... less output with high freq. Bob has a mod to his crossover that supposedly boosts the HF enough. That said, I have not heard. Space is limited. Once the wood finisher get done, Ill slide the horn, driver combo on and screw down the crossover. My current rig has a similar top end, but uses the traditional K401/K55 mid range horn from the La Scala and Khorns and then uses the Selenium D220ti fro just the high freq. I love the sound of this setup... The single driver idea was born of upgrade fever.
  11. Ok, time to let the HF200 roll out... will in 9 days once the wood finisher is done with them. Here are some progress pics. Very basic mounting. My Bass cab is 26" X26 1/2" so that is what I mirrored these to. Thus allowing me to drop them on my Cabs and they shoudl fit right in. Crossover is Bob Crites with HF boost option. It will have 2 sets of bindgign posts, 1 for input and one to the bass bin. I can aford the eliptatrac horns yet, though they seem like the next upgrade.
  12. He sugests a JBL 2380 Flat-Front Bi-Radial... which is not a constant Directivity Horn? or is it? (I wanted to us the M2380/PH2380 for its price. I do believe its a 2nd order set at 500hz, not sure how to ask or tell if a contour (Is that the right phrasing?) network?
  13. It feels like you have to pic your religion.Ive bought lots from Bob and have enjoyed his crossovers. Both ALK and Crites have great stuff.Given the use of the Fatial HF200 would the Selenuim D220ti be addative or ? Are there significant improvements by using a 2way instead of 3way. The Crites CS1 i build is much more coherent than my Heresys. The M2380 horns were used by Bob to voice his 2way... (As I understand it). Would ALKs APt12-500 need any adjustment to run well as a 2 way?Anyone using the HF200 as a 2way or tried it out as a 3 way... which did you like and why? Thank you for the input!
  14. Interesting, so there may be a way to go 2way to 3way? Bob said he had done a bit of fine tuing... I wonder if ALK option will work as well, without the fine tuning. Crossovers seem like a blackhole... black magic!
  15. Bob Crites has a passive 2way crossover developed for Fatial and his woofer. Im just wondering if its worth beging/negociating the development of a 3way and building it that way? I had bought the D405 driver and sold it after seeing how flat the response is for the Fatial.
  16. On my budget I was thinking the PH2380/M2380 horn and the Selenium HM17-25 Babycheeks for the tweeters. In an idead world the cricletrac or elipetrac horns. Geting a passive crossover that I could try as a 3way or 2way would be key. Not sure I have the 4 for R&D like that :-(
  17. I have a set of Faital Pro HF200s coming my way and have a pair of Selenuim D220ti drivers. I realize the general wisdom is that a 2way will be more coherent, etc. Does it make sense to use a Faital Pro HF200 in a 3ways Cornscala or leave it to a 2way? Any thoughts on a good choices for the horn/horns. Thanx for the input
  18. I sold my D405s, and bought the new drivers from bob. Ill have some save some coin to get the corssovers and horns, but this seems the best I could get so its progress.
  19. The real question is if I can sell my D405s... I never used and bought in advance. :-(. If not the economics seems to favor the 3way.
