  1. Here are some Panos of the yard space.  Eventually all of the grass will be paved out on one side for a fire pit and then the other area will be more of a kitchen area.  My plan was to put about 6 speakers out there kind of lining the block wall and 1 at the house so its pretty surround.  My HOA has set forth that "Thou Shalt Not Have Exterior Speakers" which i say politely "Shove Thine Bylaw" and i want to make sure that you can pretty much hear the music wherever without having to crank it beyond reasonable.  I don't really want to bother the neighbors too much, granted, there is a give and take with this all because no one is perfect but, at the end of the day, I am playing music outside and i feel the best solution is to have speakers lower down than up high mounted on the house above the block wall.

  2. I am going to be doing outdoor audio and not a huge fan of rock speakers or hanging stuff from the house but want to surround my pool and lounge area with ground level speakers.

I was planning on building some block enclosures to keep things weather tight and then finding like some KGS or something on Craig's for cheap and get great sound for cheap.

    Thoughts?

  3. there is a good market for systems that cost a few hundred dollars.  Bose has been selling their companion series for almost a decade i think now.  I paid like $250 for mine back in the day and it was....well it did the trick.  it was back when i didn't know better.  The volume pod lacked but it was extremely reliable overall.

I look at what you get from klipsch for $150...that's 2 satellites, a sub and built in amp + wiring.  The sub is actually decent like we said but there is room for improvement on amp quality and satellite design.

Probably, of all things, it comes down to size.  Maybe this is all a dying industry trend as most have laptops and its not something that we readily see.  I think they hit the nail on the head with the bluetooth stuff and has that tech gets better, so will the sound.

  4. Klipsch, you have made many wonderful products over the years but my peeve has always been in the PC 2.1 department.  My GMX set (thankfully discontinued) was....lackluster for a klipsch product both in sound and quality.  The promedia series is better and i'd say worth the $150 you pay for it.  My gripe has always been with the capabilities of the satellites while the subwoofer has always been adequate to very good and that the amp always seems to have problems.

I think that you are really missing something with the WB-14's.  I've tested the RB-10, RB-52, RB-5 and RB-5 for near field and the RB-10's were OK but the rest were just not near field material at all.  I bought the WB-14's for my computer because i wanted something more than the promedia series could offer.  Amp unreliability is rampant and once you get them cranking, the horn starts to show its limits which is really disappointing.  I went and bought an HSU downfiring sub and an emotiva a-100 to power them.  The amp is solid, the subwoofer is great and the speakers....more than i could ever ask for in a near field position.  The clarity and openness of these speakers, and really the entire Icon W line beats any klipsch speaker i have ever owned and i think that really says something.  They were always overppriced and only bought them on close out through newegg when i felt they were priced properly for what they are.

Klipsch, you could do a higher end computer set.  Base it off of the WB-14, do a less nice veneer, pack a quality plate amp in the sub, beef up the sub slightly, include some fitted & angled isolation pads and you'd have a set worth $300-$350 that people would pay for.  Just my $0.02 for your product development.

    Always a fan,

    Ian

  5. welcome fellow outlaw!  its a good choice in my opinion and hopefully it works as it should.  I have the model 2200's (200 watt monoblocks) sitting in my office spanking my quartets every work day and i've been super pleased with them

  6. both will work great for home theater.  As long as you use a cornwall or like a heresy for the center, you should be..ok

I love my 7's and they do a perfect job for my HT and they are more pleasing to the future wife...decision rendered for me

  7. just a FYI, the RC-7 woofers are different than the rf-5 although they look similar.  I asked klipsch when i bought my replacement woofer for my rf-5 that was dented from when i bought them.

Klipsch has been good about maintaining replacements for this line and keep having new replacements made

  8. you can just use a regular 3.5mm wire correct?  As in i could use a stereo or mono 3.5 mm?  I'm trying to remember what type they are and can't.   I need to buy a few for my outlaw amps because although the auto sensing feature is nice, i often listen at low volumes and the SOBs keep turning off.

    thanks!

  9. I'd look at the Emotiva processor. Not the xmc, the other one. I read reviews that the 975 just didn't keep up. I haven't researched in a while but I'd look up comparisons before hopping the bandwagon.

I love my model 7125 with 125 watts and I have 7's. Its still a lot of juice.

  10. So its that time that I bombard everyone with some new gear that outlaw audio came out with. I just got the email from them tonight and I thought I'd share. My only gripe is it being made overseas and not here like the rest of their gear. I see it as more of a value product from them which is OK but I'd rather have a USA made amp as it supports our economy. Just as long as this is a solid product it should be good to go!

    Email from the outlaws:

ANNOUNCING THE OUTLAW MODEL 5000 POWER AMPLIFIER

    THE BACK STORY

Ever since we introduced the Model 975, we have received dozens of requests for an accompanying 5-channel amplifier that would match the performance and value of this award-winning processor. Our customers have rightly pointed out that our only current 5-channel amplifier, the Model 7500, is nearly three times the price of the Model 975, making combos a somewhat pricey proposition.

With that in mind, developing a new 5-channel amplifier became a high priority for the Outlaws. However, the task was not as simple as it might sound. Unlike the chips that power a processor, the pricing for amplifier components such as metal and magnetics have risen dramatically in the last four years.

That made it difficult to build a new design in the US that would take no "shortcuts" in performance at the target price. Thus, we began a search for an off-shore manufacturing venue that could produce a product that met our high standards.

The results of this work led us to a US-based audio design team who has long-standing relationships with outstanding off-shore manufacturing facilities. In conjunction with the Outlaws, this enabled us to design and manufacture our first multi-channel amplifier built outside of the US, the new Model 5000.

    INTRODUCING THE MODEL 5000

Designed as a perfect cosmetic match to the Model 975 surround processor, the Model 5000 delivers 5 x 120 watts into 8 ohms and 5 x 180 watts at 4 ohms. As with every Outlaw amplifier, both ratings are with all channels driven.

In addition to its robust power, the Model 5000 has a number of key design points:

A differential-sensing RCA input circuit designed to reject input hum.Independent power supply rectification for each of the 5 channels, to ensure excellent isolation. Two pairs of 150-watt Toshiba bi-polar output transistors per channel for fail-safe reliability.Separate output protection relays for each channel, designed to disengage the speaker from the amp in the unlikely case of a short, or excessive DC offset.A modular audio channel design to ensure each audio signal is isolated from the other channels, from input all the way to output.

We have been living with the Model 5000 for the last several months, evaluating it not only with the Model 975, but also with significantly more expensive processors, such as the Marantz AV7701. We are delighted with its robust power and effortless dynamics.

In summary, the Model 5000 is a robust powerhouse that has easily exceeded our demanding expectations. You can find all the details in the Owner's Manual here.

An initial quantity has been flown in and will be available within a week, so we are pleased to announce the availability of the Outlaw Audio Model 5000 5-channel power amplifier.

THE BEST NEWS IS THE PRICE!

The Model 5000 is priced at $599! We are not aware of any 5-channel amplifier that can match the quality, power and performance of the Model 5000 at anything close to its price.

The combo price is even better! The Model 975/Model 5000 combo price is an incredible $999, a $150 saving over the individual prices. We are confident that this is the best value available anywhere for a processor/amplifier combination.

We invite you to audition this remarkable amplifier in your own home. Whether it is the new Model 5000, a processor or any of our other products, At Outlaw Audio, the best values in home theater are only a mouse-click away™.

  11. their response kills me.  I would think that they would at least offer you repair services for it at a cost because they did make those beasts.  its a really disappointing response.

hopefully you can find a good local repair shop to look into it.  maybe emotiva can get you the schematics for it so that your repair tech has a better idea.

  12. these concepts remind of the Icon W speaker but in a heritage style package.  i have never been a fan of the cane grills and feel like they died in the 70's and 80's and I can only with they stayed there.  I like the option of the more exotic wood finishes though.  I go both ways, i love the ultra modern looks and sometimes the warmer feel of woods for a more classic appeal.  will stay tuned for more info :)

  13. This is how i get my giggles from 9-5 or longer!  2 Quartets i got off of craigslist for $150.00 almost 2 years ago and have been serving my needs for sound....awesome quality sound and enough bass to break the office.  My trusty HK receiver has been spanking speakers for over a decade (i think its almost 15 years old) and it sounds just as good as when i got it.

C'mon, show us how YOU get through the day.  You can see how my quartets get down before the party and well....they prefer less cover up at the after party....just saying, they are pretty bada$$  BTW, De@dM@u5 has been rocking all day, i am a bit EDM'ed out.....almost.  I did ask my boss for a Molly today....like wall anchor molly, he got a kick out of that.

Then i mounted my Owl, i posted it to facebook with this caption (i do real estate management) "New wall art for the office. When you come in beotching about insignificant crap I will have you address Mr. Owl, he can also tell you how many licks to the center of a tootsie pop.."

My Quartets get me my happiness...all day and make it possible for me to not go stir crazy.

  14. having lived with the UMC-1 now for several years, i found that their last big firmware patch fixed all of the issues.  I get audio drops very very rarely now and much of those i found to have been attributed to netflix streaming stuff.  It is definitely a tweak machine and I never used the emoq and did everything kind of by ear.  The little beast isnt for everyone and If i had the cash, i would upgrade to the XMC-1.  Again, it isnt for everyone and i was peeved with it for a long time until we had a sit down, hashed out our differences and figured a way to coexist.
