Jabez, I too am (used to be) a quintet owner. Over a year ago I made the leap into the real world with Reference 3's. Excellent choice, their here to stay! Now you made a remark about RS vs RB for surrounds. I would like to first say that I have 4 RS-3's. I only have two hooked up because of my current home dimensions. This is kind of sad considering I have had the second pair boxed up in the storage room waiting for our new home and they've been there for over a year. (hopefully we'll be in this summer) I would like to point out that the RS's are not dipolar but rather WDST (Wide Dispersion Surround Technology). I only bring this up because there is a distinct difference. For info on WDST go to the Klipsch home page and select Products, then Home Audio, then Home Audio FAQ, then go down to Surround Speakers. Doug it is my limited understanding that it will not improve interlaced TV's. Most HDTV's have pirks that will improve images from a lesser source like a standard dvd player, vcr, ect. But I'm fairily confident that when using a interlaced television a progresive scan dvd player will be of absolutely no visually enhancement. In fact when using a progressive player you have to change a setting, allowing you to even use it as an interlaced source. I've been looking into calibration/setup disks and was wondering if any one can give suggetions. What I am hoping to find is one that has audio frequency sweeps that are in chapters or something similar. I would like to test my frequency response and would like to be able to set the disk on a specific frequency and test its SPL. Unlike the frequency sweep contained in the THX setup section that comes on some DVD's like on X-men that just starts at 200 and goes down to 20 with no way of having a constant tone at a specific frequency. I would also like to know what frequency range the disks have. 25k-10hz? 20k-20hz? All of the product reviews I have read do not tell you any thing specific about the adio tests. Any info is appreciated. Matthew

I'm in Washington State. But it still sounds like they ship immediately. I've been looking into SVS for a little over 2 years. When I was first investigating they didn't ship for a month or two. I'm glad to hear that they are going out quickly. I should have it the end of the week. I've waited two years and now I have to wait another week!!!

I too was in somewhat of a similar situation. I have a Denon 3802 with 7 Klipsch Reference 3's. I have an old Optimus Dolby ProLogic reciever that I am using to push two Rockford Fosgate Series 1 speakers in a dual bandpass box. The speakers and box are car equipment. In case you haven't heard of Series 1 speakers they were the cheapest speakers Rockford Fosgate made back in 1993. I have had them since high school. Now although these were nothing compared to say.....an SVS PC+16-46, they did bring a low end into my system. I have had my Denon and Klipsch stuff for about 1 1/2 yrs and have been using my car equipment for that amount of time. I had considered purchasing a KLM sub from Costco for $100 on many ocations, but I just could not get myself to spend money on some thing I was going to get rid of. The more I saved the sooner I could get what I really wanted. An SVS! I also had that much more money to play with. My SVS is now been ordered and will soon be here . I am convinced it will be well worth the wait. My advise to you is use the car subs you have and save for the sub you want. After all with the $200 you have you are 1/3 on your way to an SVS PCi25-31

I have just placed my order for the much awaited addition to my Home Theater Family. The SVS 16-46 PC-Plus. I was just wandering how long, from order to arrival, your's took. I could just ask them but that would not satisfy my bragging urges. I guess strutting around the house is not fullfilling enough.

While I was in the store looking at purchasing this disk, I read the back and noticed that it said Seven Bridges Road was in DTS. It didn't say anything about the rest of the DVD being in DTS or even DD. I was hoping those of you who own it could enlighten me about this. I would really like to det it if it has some sort of 5.1 encoding. The dealer is willing to work with me, but that is if I pay retail. I was able to talk them down a bit on this seven speaker package I purchased. They will let me trade in the RS's if I pay retail for the RB's. Unfortunatly this will give them back the money I was able to talk them out of. The basement room is not framed yet and will not be for a little while still, so four side surrounds could be possible. My room has 3 1/2 walls. The right wall is the half wall. By this I mean that the wall goes from the back of the room only half way toward the front. Mounting side and rear surrounds will not be a problem. I will be able to mount them per manual recommendations. I'm getting the feeling that the general concensous is that the RS-3's will work, but do they provide the optimal sound for movies. Are they really a dieing technology? The system will eventually be in the basement in a rectangular room. I too have a Denon reciever and a Reference 3 setup. The speakers are a new addition. I went with the RS-3's for side and rear effects. I have four of them. In the Denon manual it says "For the greatest sense of surround envelopment, diffuse radiation speakers such as bipolar types, or dipolar types, provide a wider dispersion than is possible to obtain from a direct radiating speaker (monopolar)." (This is accompanied with a picture showing four diffuse speakers.) Is not the point of suround systems envelopment? The manual also shows an illustration showing the A/B surround options, "A" with diffuse speakers for both side and rear effects, and "b" with monopolar speakers for music. This implies that a person who wants an optimum system would use diffuse for movies and monopolar for music. My purchase is only one week old. Did I make a mistake? I have not opened the second set of RS-3's. Thanks for the input. I appreciate the insight and experience that all of you bring to this forum. I will definetly try both settings and see what I prefer. I do have a sub, but it's kind of a laughing matter. I have a dual bandpass enclosure with two Rockford Fosgate 12" series one speakers that I bought eight years ago in high school for my car. They happen to be 8ohm speakers. I run them with ports firing down, propt up by Tupperware containers, being pushed by my old Optimus Prologic reciever in stereo mode. Needless to say its all boom and no punch. As much as I am lusting after a SVS sub, this round of purchases went to the References and I haven't been able to think straight since! I picked myself up a set of reference speakers this weekend and I'm curious what you guys with Reference-3's have your recievers set at. I am using a Denon 3802 which has 110W/7. The RF-3's obviously handle the large setting but I'm wondering if any one has ran the RC-3 and the RS-3 at large for a long time. I currently have them all set to large and it sounds great I just don't what to blow the lesser rated surrounds and center.
