Aren't Klipsch the best speakers? How dare you! :-)
Don't use mid-fi, mid priced sounds more like it, because Klipsch is High Fidelity. Palladiums exist because Klipsch saw a market. Yes, the are $$$$, but I was throwing down my Klipsch evangalism and passion for Rock, metal and other genres of music. Yes, I am biased
if I was going with Carl, then KLF-20/30! They are wonderful!

Weak argument Bill. The design intent of the LaScala was to be a PA speaker for a polital campaign. The "Heresy" is named as such because it had a woofer and was small, and designed to be used as a center.
Then what is the design intent of the Klipschorn? :-) to me it's clear what is the better speaker.

where did you find a RT-10d for $310!? Did you mean RW-10d? If you did great deal on both.
Keep Hunting, I find forte II for sale all the time. I am constantly searching, or at least my news reader is constantly searching for Klipsch Speakers.
The Academy pops up every now and then.. Use Crazedlist or Search Tempest, google them and search for "Academy"

one more obvious question.
Are you sure the Disc has DTS-HD Master or Dolby Digital EX?
Try these steps
1- Load DTS-HD Encoded media
2-Press play
3- observe recievers auto detect settings, if DTS-HD pops up, continue watching your movie. if not then step 4
4- go to the DTS-HD encoded media's menu and under audio options select DTS-HD.
5- observe your receivers playing DTS-HD encoded media thru your speakers, if yes.. enjoy the show if no then step 6
6- Try another disc and repeat 1-5, should step 6 fail on to step 7
7- turn everything off and then back on, repeat 1-6, if 7 fails then 8
8- Test on some one elses set-up, if that fails step 9
9- Return BD Player

Okay have any of you watched "Metalpocalpse" with the Band Dethklok on adult swim?
Have any of you listened to Lamb of God?
The metal industry?? The music is there.. With bands like Within Temptation, Kamelot, Dreamtheater, and Tool how can you say there there isn't good metal out there? or that the "industry" is messed up..
Go buy tickets to Trans-Siberian Orchestra this season, hands down one of the best metal shows to go to. AND it's family friendly.
Now, how can you say NO to heritage and NOT give a recommendation?
Any Speakers from the Heritage, Classic, and Legend Series are the best speakers Klipsch has made.. wait.. there is the ultra expensive Palladium series and I am sure they ROCK.

Well, your thoughts now, contradict your initial, "I want a center in the worst way", but you can change your mind. Know this, you have a multi channel amp and at some point your gonna get the itch to add more speakers since you got the channels. The first thrill is getting you first pair of high performance speaker, and I see you have some disposable income to spend on a RT-10d.
If I was a betting man, I 'd wager a center and surround are coming.. so I will fill you mind with my recommendations
Get 3 more fortes
Get 2 more fortes and 1 Heresy
Get 3 Heresys
Get Academy and 3 Heresys
Get Academy and any pre 1997 Tower
But for 2 Channel w/ a Sub, you got it right man. -Bill

for every doubling of power, you raise the output by 3 dB.
So, take the rate sensitivity of your speakers (and what ever frequency they are rated at, ie 90dB@1Khz@1w/1m..) and add the power factor of the amp. you'll get the theoretical output of your speakers. You'll lose a whole lot in power compression, just like your car transmission sucks power from the engine before it gets to the wheel..
so use this chart as a rough guide, given a 90dB/w/m sensitive speaker.
1 watt= 90db
2 w = 93 dB = +3 dB
4w = 96 dB = +6 dB
8w = 99 dB = +9 dB
16w= 102 dB = +12 dB
32w= 105db = +15 dB
64w= 108dB= +19 dB
128w= 112dB= +21dB
256w= 115dB= +24 dB
So at 64 watts of power you will achieve the 108 dB level 1m away.
Power loss is about the same in respect to distance.. so every doubling of distance you lose output at the same exponetial rate
Therefor if you are 4 meters from your speakers, you'll only get 102 dB from 64 watts a -6dB drop.. and we've not calculated losses due to temp, pressure, and driver..
Still, with all this audio theory, it should show you that given a highly sensitive speaker,i.e. Klipschorn 105 dB/w/m, you get thunderous output with such low power amplifiers.. Imagine 200watts into a Klipschorn, we're talking easy 125dB at listening position if you crank it.. amazing and they were sold over 50 years ago..

Very nice, However I am not going to move on this untill next fall, I am just "Data mining" for what is what, since I am a total greenhorn to the whole LP/ Vinyl media.
I do understand that each componet can be sweated over, and the Phono cartridge is very important, but the maintenance and other care is unknown to me. Is there a Hitchhikers Guide to Vinyl out there?

I was a devout, "I don't need no stinkin' center" kind of guy for a long time. I mean if you have a good set of stereo speakers they should place the dialogue and center channel information cleanly in the middle. right?
Okay if you must have a center, I know my solution would be to purchase A Heresy to put in the middle to match. Heresys are common and easy to find on the classifieds. Good Hunting.

New you'd be getting some Klipschorns.
I say go with the testament of time and What 3 Models are still standing.. Heresy, LaScala, and Klipschorn.
Also remember the design intent of the Belle. It was to serve a singe center speaker between two Klipschorns.
..how many more sentences can I write that end in Klipschorn?

in your Blu-Ray player set the default output setting for digital info to "BITSTREAM"
Should be under audio options, the other setting should be "PCM" or Pulse Code Modulation
after that your reciever should auto detect what ever signal you send it. Make Sense?

Yup, inwalls. Klipsch makes fine inwalls..
I would hide them with some sort of acoustically transparent picture, cuz you still can see them on the wall... ;-)

Welcome to Blu-Ray Media!
Dolby Pro Logic II is a fine surround sound format and will work with any BD movie that you have.
The Best? Well, Dolby Digital EX and DTS- HD Master are the newest surround encodings, and by nature of newer technology, should have the best audio quality. So those formats should be you choice in the BD Audio options.
note: your reciever must be able to decode these formats to take advantage of the format.
I recommed using HDMI and setting your output to BITSTREAM. Then your reciever should auto detect the stream and decode accordingly.
Don't worry about gitches, you bought technology, did you really expect to get reliability? Bad Joke..haha.

The Emotiva is it. Next would be the Outlaw Audio varieties..
Go used and Look for Meridian and Lexicon..
Otherwise stick with a reciever that has pre outs and use an external amp.
I got a Lexicon CP3+ back in college and I never knew how good these seperates were and how much thought is put into them.

I want a turntable.
Okay, I don't know much about turntables since they were used before my time.. I hit the late 80s with tapes and then in 1991 I got my first sony "Discman".. from there it was CD player, DVD player, then iPod.. go ahead laugh it up..
BUUUT looking at this thread, man would I like to listen to some records on one of those turntables.. BUT BUT I don't think these are the "cheap ones" just from my years and my generations accute ability to surf the web for all things audio.
I have seen companies such as Music Hall Audio, Rega, Technics, and Sony that sell Turntables that look okay.. how to they sound? what would be a reasonable sub $1000 Turntable?
Should I just got to Guitar Center and get a pro audio one?

Have you shared the how-to or where bought for those MWM K402 Horns?
Anecdote: When I was in Highschool (late 90's) I got hooked on Audio. One of my many monthly rituals was to drive up Route 1 to the Tweeter Etc.. in Dedham and listen to all the nice gear with the CDs that I had. I totally wanted the KLF-30 in oak, I mean they were monsterous! Another one of my rituals was to test drive all the lexus's and BMWs on the auto mile.. :-)
Yet, I couldn't affort them nor would the parents support such gargantuan speakers in the house. (I had a pair Large KLH speakers purchased from a friend for about $200 bucks.. and they lasted all the way thru college before the were sold..) So another set of Large speakers were gonna slip into my room.. One day our TV broke, and I threw out the idea of going up Tweeter to get a nice TV and while we were there I sat them down infron of a pair of Forte II, man did they sound good! Full bass, that concert experience, Pink Flyod's Pulse entranced the whole store.. eeerer, Record skip, "They are too big..", comes from the parents.. ARRGGH! I was THIS close to buying in the Ministers of anti-big speakers on the basis of how they sounded..
That day, I still was successful at spending some one elses money, we walked out of the store with KSF-10.5 (which aren't that much smaller but have much narrower cabinet), a Kenwood 5.1 Reciever (the second one only made at the time to have 5.1 instead of Dolby Pro Logic) and a mungaso 40" Mistubish CRT TV.... My parents still to this day have the Klipsch Speakers and Reciever.. over the years they added a Cambridge Sound Works Sub 1 (Bob Carver designed, 12" sealed beast) and upgraded to a LCD TV. I would crank that system and It has never let me down, But man oh man, do I wish we still had purchased Forte IIs.

I have heard nothing but good things about Oppo disc players.
But if your are going cheap then
Sony Disc Player
These days, no one sells cheap CD player "only" models.. If you wanted some thing nice you could throw some coin down on a NAD, Cambridge Audio, or Rotel CD player.
Even cheaper, you get an Apple Airport express w/ a mini TOSLINK (fiber optic digital cable) connector and a Fiber optic cable, and connect that to your digital in and use iTunes via your computers CD drive and WiFi to stream the Audio to your Stereo.
wait you don't have a digial in?? get with the times! lol, kidding, just use a 3.5mm headphone to RCA cable instead.. won't sound as good as the digital method, but still sound good.
