  1. Thanks for the links inventor.I think a 15 amp male&female gold would be sweet. As I am understanding composition of materials high grade copper might give a warmer sound also.Excuse me while I chase my tail.K.C.
  2. I look forward to the posting of results when this is finished.Btw I want to upgrade my Denon AVR 5600 power cord in the future and would like to know if anyone knows of a quality power cord connector jack I can install in said unit. Thanks in advance for help.K.C.
  3. I am looking to improve the tweeter not the midrange.Consensus says diaphram change on midrange brings it easily into acceptable. The tweeter is the issue.I want it warm and clear.I hope others have been here and could advise me how to achieve that warm and clear sound. What steps to take and in what order.K.C.
  4. Great choice for a replacement driver Don.I had looked at that driver myself.I like the fact it is not titanium and the dB level looks to be a better match. As far as I can tell this driver can be used with stock or upgrade with stock spec crossovers.Any one else know this for sure?Has anyone used this high frequency driver?what did your ear hear?K.C.
  5. Thanks for the heads up Peter. From reading in these forums I too thought of the crossovers.I know others have had this sense of brightness also. The Crites titanium tweeter diaphrams are 85% there when it comes to reducing the brightness. As an added benefit they have wonderful control of the frequencies they reproduce. The interconnects reduced the brightness some and they really opened up the presence. All my adjustments now have me at 0 at all levels.I do have the treble slightly negative to compensate.the previous post was very informative as to a direction to go as far as another driver.I want to try the new crossovers but if I am still not satisfied with them then I am stuck using titanium.I was looking at the Radian drivers so I could use a non-stock/non- titanium diaphram.Has anyone used the titanium then upgraded crossovers? What did your ear hear?K.C.
  6. Cornwalls yes...rf83 no.I would need to audition both to help further that along.
  7. My intent is not really to increase the wattage as much as move to a better horn/driver.As far as I can tell without better info better drivers equals more powerful drivers.I base this on a schematic I saw in these forums that showed the tweeter to be 5 watt. The smallest wattage of a 1 inch Radian driver I have found is 35 watt(I think). In a perfect world I would like a driver better than stock but without the brightness of titanium.I have about 50 hrs. on a set of Crites titanium diaphrams and they are still somewhat bright to my ear.The Kimber Kable interconnects helped greatly.I am going to try crossover upgades first before I try other horns/drivers.Thank you for your input.
  8. First does anyone know the wattage of KLF20 woofers, midranges, and tweeters?Second what would be a matching/upgrade drivers for said components? Can a higher wattage driver be used in the horns? If so would a crossover change be required? Would this modification change the tonal balance of the speaker as a whole?K.C.
  9. Hi..all.I have replaced the original tweeters in my KLF-10s with titanium diaphragms and I am not pleased with the end results.Even though they are more controlled to my ear they also sound too tinny.I wrapped the plastic horns with rope insulation and heard an improvement.Still too tinny.Going back to the originals is not an option as they were too indistinct.Has anyone tried and found a replacement driver/driaphragm combination that has both clarity and warmth?Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.Regards...Killer Clown.
  10. This post is for those who have entered into this hobby recently and believe their speakers are a little "bright".After purchasing a set of KLF-10s on E-bay and adjusting my system to the most ear-friendly setting i could find I still heard a " brightness " in the higher frequencies. After reading posts in these forums I decided to try titanium tweeters for more control. This modification tamed the beast.I purchased mine from Bob Crites and his website instructions made the swap seamless. As I enlarge my system I will perform this mod on each speaker. If you need to tame your beast I srongly suggest you perform this mod also. Not only was the brightness less the frequencies reproduced were more open and controlled.Total effect...9 out of 10.Difficulty of installment....2 on scale of 10.Horns rule.K.C.
  11. Impressive modoc.i only hope when i pull the trigger on my center i hope it looks as good.I have been going through other posts mostly by redtop, scooterdog, and HornEd.My system currenttly resides in a 35x70 shop my brother and i use as a place to "piddle".There is plenty of space for a large Legend-based system.First priority is scoring atleast 3 klf-20s.As an aside I had been in another forum elsewhere and Klipsch speakers were not highly thought of.Having ventured into horns I personally have found myself not wanting to listen to anything else.Long live horns.K.C.
  12. Thanks for the pics modoc.Do you have more?Did you baffle the woofers from the midrange and tweeter? On a scale of 1-10 what was your impression of the new center.Have you upgraded the diaphrams?long live the Legend Series.K.C.
  13. I am new to these forums so please bear with me.I am considering the HornEd modifacation on a KLF-20 to a horizontal center channel and would like to bounce a few ideas as to the direction i may go.Some of these ideas are seen in other posts in these forums.some ideas i have not seen yet.First replace motor board with redesigned motor board.Horizontal placement of midrange under tweeter.Recessed placement of midrange and tweeter to form extension of horns.Place rear ports to one on each side.Contain each woofer in its own enclosure. What are the pros and cons of each mod.Does the horns have to be enclosed or can the horn rear section be left"open"?What would be the best enclosure size now be for each woofer? What would be the best insulation be for the new enclosures? Is separating the enclosures worth the effort? All suggestions will be considered especially those based on facts and experience.I look forward to your replies.I have read and learned much here and hope to continue to do so.
