  1. I read the article as well tube fanatic,I found it informative and am about to read your other offering.Extreme west. Like 50 miles from the Mississippi River.I keep going back and looking at Glassware products. This may be the route I take or some facsimile thereof.Thanks,K.C.
  2. Thank you tube fanatic.Very sound advice.I would do as you say,but I do not know anyone currently utilizing a tube buffer.I do not even know anyone utilizing tubes.Hence the couriousity.Thanks.K.C.
  3. Thanks for the input .I am researching the concept of the buffer.I have made no final decision and may not even experiment with it.If I do try it I would like to use quality parts and a known design. If I do not like it I could probably sell it for the investment to someone. How about some designs with arguements for or against a design.Thanks.K.C.
  4. I had read the 1:10 in my meanderings of the Internet.Correct me if I am wrong,I currently have a Z ratio of 1:4.7?Erik,those very problems you have brought to light are those issues that I hope to avoid.I know not introducing the buffer into the signal path will eliminate the issues. That being said,I have a couriousity of introducing valves into the line.Hypothetically, what design would allow me to accomplish my goals?Thanks,K.C.
  5. My memory failed me,not the first time.I looked at the CD players specs as listed by Denon and it states the analogue outpt impedence as 10k ohms. Thanks for the heads up tube fanatic.K.C.
  6. I agree (again) with M J. I would add that the Legend speakers have had time to degrage since they were last produced.K.C.
  7. The CD player has as output impedence of 470k ohms and the preamp an input impedence of 47k ohms.I want to keep the Denon 5600 preamp and amp because they are (to my ear) exceptional audio equipment.I have been looking over Glasswares offerings and TubeCad's interpretations of these buffers.Joe's descriptions of these buffer designs are very insightful.K.C.
  8. I looked over the Decware, not quite what I was looking for,and the PAIA looks more to my expectations.Keep the suggetions coming.I am going to look over the PAIA again to assess the pro and cons. Thanks for the help so far.K.C.
  9. My intensions are to introduce tube sound between the DACs of the CD player and the preamp,as well as impedence match the two comonents.I am sorry I was not clear on the integrated statement. What I meant was I want is a suggestion for a schematic or diy kit using both tubes and solid state for a 0dB gain.K.C.
  10. Forum poulace,I am considering adding a class A or A/B tube buffer between my Denon 2930 ci and my Denon AVR 5600.Investment ceiling to achieve this goal is 1200.00 U.S..What I am seeking is a front to back schematic and/or diy kit to construct an integrated tube buffer.T the buffer/buffers should have o dB gain, thd of less than .05,capability of impedence matching, broad bandwith, and a signal coloration that is neither clinical nor muddy.I would like suggestions that are based on the experience and knowledgable.Thanks,K.C.
  11. I have to concur with Mr. James, but must also encourage you to use Bob's crossovers as well. The crossovers really help you to appreciate the other upgrades.I use both KLF-10s and KL-20s in my music system(both pairs are upgraded/modded.In the future I hope to add a pair of modded/upgraded KLF-30s.Keep it clean all the way back to the source.K.C.
  12. Anyone remember who first sang "Hotrod Lincoln"?
  13. Kaiser,I am sorry I thought it was an understood.....two amps to one bi-wireable speaker to seperate highs and lows....or... one bi-amp capable amp such as the Denon AVR 5803 to bi=wireable speakers.K.C.
  14. Go to JBL websites you will find the analysis graphs you seek.As for blocking higher frequencies I beleive that the intended purpose of the Klipsh diffusers in the throat was to bounce back mid-frequencies to tame the hi-frequencies.I would think this would be distortion also....with no pluses.K.C.
  15. Look on eBay under JBL 2308 speaker lenses. They are made as a direct replacement part by Kenrick Sound. They run around $150.00 with shipping from Japan. The lenses disperse the sound to create a greater soundstage.Combined with the more accurate titanium diapragms your speaker achieves a more accurate ...yet warm frequencies.I custom made the 3/8 aluminum brackets.I attached the brackets to the lenses with F-26 glue(similar to liquid nails). The brackets wre attached with alan-head button screws to the motorboard.....all in all a very factory look.I will work on posting some pics.Btw the lenses are also known as potato mashers.A reminder...remove the Klipsch diffusers from the horn throat.K.C.
  16. I have already applied insulating putty tape to exterior of horn. This mod stopped all sqwauking.
  17. During my journey to sonic happiness I upgraded to the B&K titanium diaphrams(more definition with the titanium sound).I also upgraded to the B&K crossovers(improved all frequencies....again thanks Bob).I still was not happy with the high end.My brother had an epiphany and suggested audio diffusion lenses.I searched out stock lenses for the 10s horn dimensions and found the JBL 2308 lenses to be a match.I found a seller on eBay(Kenrick Sound) of perfect replicas, purchased and installed a set. Before installing the lenses for the last time I removed the horns and removed the obstructions in the throats(they were no longer needed). This last modification brought everything together. The sound stage is much wider. The titanium sound is reduced by 95%.Music is warmer.I now have a wider sweet spot when increasing or decreasing the volume control. This is a mustdo.Try this modification...you will be glad you did.K.C.
  18. I would think if you felt the need to balance frequencies it would be beneficial.Of course this would would require an amp that was bi-amp capable,or multiple amps.K.C.
  19. If I had it to do over again I would have switched to quality interconnects much sooner. They open up the tuning capabilities, allowing the music to be more accurate while retaining its warmth.DACs should be involved.K.C.
  20. I too experienced the difference(for the better)quality interconnects can impart.I used Kimber Kable heroes.I also had several epiphanies after. One upgrade that was as significant was the 2930ci player. Then there was the B&K titanium diaphragms.Following closely was the B&K crossovers. All this had my system mostly set at neutral. The finishing touch was the JBL 2308 audio lenses. Each part of the journey brought something to the table.I now have a system that when described is all the wonderful words used when an audiophile is in sonic nirvana.K.C.
  21. The boys on the hill(Killer Clown and co-counsel/defender of unmolested high current... Sick Bast_rd) would like to toss an accelerant on the fire.We recently purchased a pair of B&K crossovers and installed them yesterday. We would like to testify(and give credit...where credit is due)as to the the scope of the impact of a neccesary crossover change. The change was due to age and the molestation current....to our ears. After installing the new(not rebuilt) said crossovers we were astounded by the impact of the well designed and quality workmanship of the new crossovers. The new dynamics and overall warmth of the improved tonal balance made us want to sacrifice a virgin. We recognize the unknowing and accept their special needs.P.S. Bob post your favorite poison and we will lift a glass or two on the day we meet.
  22. The name and avatar are not meant to scare anyone(lol). Not everyone understands me..... and I am OK with that.My therapist and probation officer say I am doing alot better(lol).Any suggestions on premium optical cable?Never bought or used one before.I will be sure to look to my manual...again.If I continue to be unsure I will definitely refer to you guys. It's nice to know there are people who help people just for the sake of promoting a hobby.K.C.
  23. I followed this thread with much interest.I am not currently doing hometheater but I do listen to sacd's.I have noticed I have to turn up the dB's when playing the sacd's as opposed to regular cd's.This maybe explains why.I have a Denon 2930ci connected to rca's to a Denon AVR5600.As I understand it I need to add an optical link then search for the right mode on player? Thanks for any help.K.C.
