  1. Rc-52 would be perfect with rb-61's. The only thing I will caution you on is that HT can be adivtive. You could be better off with an rc-62. First the rc-62 is heads and tails better than the rc-52 and I have owned both. Second, if you ever upgrade in the future you can add RF-82's to the front and slide the rb-61's to surround.
  2. No. I have recently owned a yammy and 6 onkyo's. I wanted to try the UMC-1 but it has so many issues I just couldn't do it. That NAD looks interesting. Plus I can check it out in person first. Someone had a Harmon for sale on this board but I didn't buy it cause I just don't know enough about their sound.
  3. I could not find anything as far as preouts go on that NAD. Thx for the pic. That's good news. For now I only plan on using 3 speakers but I wanna keep my options open. I'll check the marantz but I was under the impression they did not have preouts.
  4. Thx for the replies everyone. I sm looking for an AVR with preouts however do the NAD you linked bill won't work nor will either marantz that was suggested. I could up the budget a but if need be
  5. I'm intrested to see what you come up with nezff
  6. about 280lbs. The 600 the quote is pallet weight. I wouldnt want you sleeping in the room underneath either since it is the garage. Elemental Designs Cinema series 12s. They were custom made into towers for me. Why no center speaker?
  7. I was looking at the pioneer 1121, and any number of AVR's from accessories4less. Looking in the $500-$600 range. For the bedroom. Preouts, iPod connectivity of some sort, and not an onkyo (I love my onks but I wanted to try something different).
  8. Mine say b stock right on the label. Pm me your email and I'll send u a pick
  9. Yeah +1..... I use air play in the bedroom with apple tv off my onkyo 509 with wf-14 speakers and a paradigm dsp-3400. It sounds very nice. But can't compete at higher levels when I use the 3008 connected directly to my iPhone off the rf7's. Point is I use AirPlay when I'm not as concerned with quality. It's a cool feature but wireless technology can't compete with wired yet.
  10. Ha! I knew it. Source material was the problem. These speakers are so sensitive they pick up every little bit of distortion and amplify it. The "level" on your onkyo means nothing to us. Unless we had the same exact receiver in a similar room. I have owned the 3007, 608, 709, HT-rc180, and now the 3008. All seemed to have vastly different "db level numbers" for whatever reason. I can tell you my 3008 on stereo mode with no other amp plays too loud for my room at -13.... But what db level that is actually putting out if I were to measure with a meter is anyone's guess. As long as you can turn it up loud enough for your listening pleasure without distortion thats all you should need or want. IMO if you want a cleaner sound then the iTunes can provide then you should go to SACD's. Although I'm not of the opinion that the difference is cost is worth it. But that's a personal preference
  11. I have used 3 different onkyo's and an XPA-5 to listen to my 7ii's. They produce plenty of bass on all 4 amps with no distortion from iTunes music off an iPhone. I don't use my sub's for music at all just the 7ii's on pure audio mode. If your getting distortion with good material then I would be very upset if I were you.
  12. Ok... 1. 99% chance the distortion is coming from your material or amp. 2. The rf7ii absolutely does not need 200 watts to "sing". They are extremely efficient 101db. 3. I would check my crossover point on the avr. If your settings are right and your sure your material is quality then I would suspect you have something wrong with your 7ii's.
  13. Wow, that's gonna be a huge difference. Your going to be smiling from ear to ear!
  14. Well you frequency response is lower on the rf52's (36 vs 44), but the 81's have a higher sensitivity (97 vs 96). The cross over point is 1400hz for the 81 and 1700 for the 52's. 81's are more expensive. It looks like you'll need more power to run the 52's so your power source is part of the equation. Upgradeability in the future is on the side of the 81's IMO cause you can always use them for rear surround. I've not heard either one so can't help you there.
  15. Good to see people have such strong opinions. The depth of the DLP does make it less than optimal in my space. After some investigation I don't think the viewing angle would be an issue for my space. I am finding that the price of flat panel tv's is still a bit too high for me (concerning 70-80 inch with at least 240 hz) at this point. I would like at least a 70 to replace the projector. So unless I can find something out of the blue then it looks like I'm gonna go for a smaller flat panel (50-60) and buy a drop down screen. The only other option would be the 70 inch sharp for $3500. Kinda hard to justify $3500 on a 1080p 3d smart tv that would be used exclusively for 720p, non 3d, non Internet type viewing. I love my samsung plasma and I can pick up another one (51 inch) for $550.
  16. That HT is Deffinately a mans HT. Did I mention it rocks? Love it!
  17. Not sure if your brother has a lemon or not, but I would have to disagree with you totally on them being $hit. I would definately not purchase a SONY since the picture usually sucks and Sonys are very high priced and never rate worth a crap on CNET. Samsungs are great, best bang for the buck IMHO. I have a 73 inch Mitsu in my theater room and it blows the sony picture out of the water. I used to be a sony fanboy also, until over the last couple years their picture is terrible compared to their price. Panasonic makes the BEST plasma for the money, unless of course you want to find a Pioneer Elite Kuro floating around used. I wasnt going to comment in this thread, but couldnt resist with the comment you made. Well I was clearly asking you to comment so thanks. I wish I could see a Mitsubishi in person. The stores around here don't sell them though
  18. So I went to magnolia to check out the sharp's and pioneer elite. The elite is nice but at 7k it's not worth it for me. The 80 inch sharp ($4200) is so big! Makes the 65 inch that was next to it look tiny. The picture quality was sub par IMO. Maybe it's just too big to look good with the technology available? The 70 inch sharp ($1999), was also not very impressive. Unfortunately it was not so good cause the price is absolutely right. The other 70 inch sharp they had ($3500) seemed to be of better quality. But they had it in a dark corner with s bluray playing. I didn't recognize the movie but it didn't seem to be the type of movie one should use to display the abilities of a tv. The format had black bars on the top and bottom. The bars combined with the dark corner and black frame made the tv look smaller than the 60 inch tv's surrounding it cause they were playing something bright and in 16x9 format. All this has me thinking about getting a smaller tv (55-60) and adding a drop down screen in front if it. That way I keep my projector big screen for movies and video gaming but get the ability to watch regular tv and sports with the family (lights on).
  19. Thanks alot bill. Doesn't seem to bad. The first angle looks to be about as far off center as I would be. My room doesn't have windows but I will need to have the lights on about half the time ( wife and baby ). Maybe nezff will chime in since he has a Mitsubishi.
  20. Bill, is the viewing angle and loss of brightness acurate? If so it's really a deal breaker.
  21. Well I can agree that for $3500 the only tv your getting at 92 inches is the dlp. My projector is great and my screen is 100 inch. It just doesn't work with a baby (having the lights off). I need something I can view with the lights on. Thst said I was looking at an LCD because they are what I am most familiar with. The 2 dlp's I have watched are owned by my brother innlaw and my sister. They were both purchased years ago. That leads me to believe they are old technology.
  22. I called klipsch prior to purchasing. The reason they gave me was that the veneer came from China and that sending it back was not an option financially. So they chose to make a "b" stock run. They could have been lying to me.... But that's the reason they gave me.
  23. Well when your getting a screen that is 22 inches larger than it makes you wonder what your paying for. Too bad I can't see one locally
  24. I like that sharp offers different levels and options on their tv's. But if your not careful you could end up buying the wrong one. Best buy has 3 different versions. $2000, $2700, and $3500.
