  1. I have unhooked all the cables and reinstalled the speaker wires. I only have the rear surrounds hooked up to the unit. The three front are run by my Emotiva XPA3. Ernest has told me he will approve taking the unit to a local service center. It's 30 miles away and I plan on taking it in next Wednesday. I will let everyone know what they say. The code for protection mode came up as DC. Ernest told me it meant that there was a current problem. The two surround speakers are properly wired with no contact between the wires. I have run Audyssey to verify that the wires are not crossed. I find it hard to believe it is the speaker wire or the current. I bought a new monster av800 surge suppressor two weeks ago to make sure that wasn't a problem. I googled overprotection problems with denon receivers and found a repairman who said the problem on his machine was the connection built into the receiver. If this is an intermittent problem as it can run for 3 to 4 weeks without going off and then go off 4 times in a 24 hour period. Each time you have to reset the microprocessor and run audyssey again. It is very frustrating and if it happens when my wife is using the tv she doesn't know how to get it to work again. thanks for your comments.
  2. The stereo is in a 20 by 20 Family room with 8 foot ceilings. I placed the tv and speakers in the corner pointing out at an L shaped couch about 12 feet from the speakers. At least that's what Audysey measured them at.. Does this info help. I am currently running the Klipsch rw12d sub that came with the RF82 system.
  3. Thanks for the info. The sub is just too heavy for me to handle. I am recovering from a 3 level cervical spine fusion and have had 2 back surgeries. I can't move anything like that. I looked on the SVS website and I was thinking about the ported or the unported sb 2000 or the sp1000. What do you think would one of these work with my set up? thanks.
  4. I just ordered at Marantz 7007 receiver and I would like to update my klipsch RW12d sub woofer with something that will play music as well as movies at a higher level. Also the stereo is in a 20 by 20 Family room with 8 foot ceilings. I placed the tv and speakers in the corner pointing out at a l shaped couch about 12 feet from the speakers. At least that's what Audysey measured them at. Any suggestions. I can spend up to $1000. I have a klipsch RF 82, Rc 62, rs 52 surround speakers, Can you guys help me out. I don't have to spend $1000 I am ok with value as long as they sound great. Thanks. Joel
  5. Great speakers, I bought an RF82 set up with a denon 3311. I decided after listening to the system and read some posts about emtiva. I took the plunge and bought an emotive xpa3, 200 watts a channel and use it on the front and center speakers. It made a big difference. Much smoother sound for music and tv. I don't know if it will make a difference with the rf7's but there are a lot of people on the forum who will know. good luck
  6. I have a Denon 3311 that keeps going into protection mode. I bought the unit 3 1/2 years ago and after a year and 3 months it quit. I sent it in under the 2 year warranty and received a refurbished unit in return. The unit went into protection mode while still under warranty and I was told to reset the microprocessor, give the unit more air circulation and it would be fine. The unit cntinued to do this and occasionally called in to tell them that I thought something was wrong. I was then told to do a hard reset to reset the unit to factory specs. I again kept calling and in February asked to upgrade this to a supervisor as I was certain that there was something wrong. The supervisor never returned the phone call. The problem continues to this day. Last weekend it happened 3 x in 24 hours and I started calling again this week. The first tech told me to take it to a repair shop as it is now out of warranty. I explained it was in warranty the first time I called. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he said that they would call back in 48 hours. I didn't get off the phone and kept talking until he finally got a supervisor on the phone. After two hours the supervisor put me back on the line with the same technical support person to troubleshoot. So now I'm on the phone with the same guy who told me the unit was broken and out of warranty. He tells me how to find out what the protection mode code is. I wonder why they didn't do that the first time I called. He has me pull every cable and speaker wire off the unit and do press the menu and status and turn the power on. Then press the status. It gives me no code because as I had told him several times I have reset the microprocessor last weekend. He finally tells me to call back next time it goes into protection mode and give him the code and he will pass it on to Ernest the Supervisor. I left the receiver on that night without the tv on and the volume on 0. It went into protection mode twice. I called the code in and the tech didn't know what it meant and Earnest wasn't working and to call back on Saturday. Today is Saturday and I just got off the phone with the tech and Earnest called me back. He told me in a conversation on Thursday that if the code showed that it wasn't the cabling it had to be the unit and he would take care of it and honor the warranty. I just got off the phone with him and he told me the DC code means that the current must be spiking. I explained to him that I just put a new monster power supply in and put the old on in a spare room with a Denon 1804 hooked up to it. So basically he now needs to talk to his supervisor and call me back by Wednesday. I also didn't mention this unit is only powering my surround speakers I have an emotive XPA 3 200 watt amp powering the front 3 speakers. My concern is that if they decide to honor the warranty I'm more than likely going to get another refurbished unit. I know some refurbished units are just returned units with nothing wrong with them however they havn't made this unit for a while. I don't want somebody else's headache. Can anyone suggest a good substitute for around $1000 dollars. I have a set of Klipsch RF82, RF62,RF52 and RW12d sub. I looked at Marantz 7007. I like Nad but it may be too expensive. Does anyone have any experience with Denon and making things right or who else to talk to there?
  7. My Denon Receiver, its a 4 year old AVR 3311 and is turning off and going to a red blinking power button. It has started to happen more frequently and it isn't hot. After 10 months Denon replaced the unit when it quit. It makes one wonder if these units are reliable. I need a unit that will act as a preamp as I use my emotive 3 channel to run the front three speakers, Klipsch RF-82's, and 62 center. Does anyone have any suggestions for a replacement. I have a Klipsch set up of RF82, 62 center, 52's for the surrounds and an RW 12d subwoofer. I like the warm sound of Denon but the reliability is lacking. The replacement for this model is the 4000 model and is $1299. thanks
  8. BILL My room is 20x20. I can spend between $400 to 700. If I can get a reliable used one I would do that and i'm in Los Angeles so I would look on craigs list.
  9. I have an RF82, RC62, RS52 and rw12d subwoofer. I am thinking of upgrading the subwoofer do you guys have any suggestions. I run a denon 125 watt receiver with an emotive 200 watt 3 channel for the front three speakers. Any suggestions. Thanks
  10. I originally ripped all my cd's to 128 before getting my klipsch speakers and immediately started ripping at 256-320 and I can tell the difference more depthor something to the music.
  11. I bought a 3806 receiver as a backup for my 3311 and it has stopped working. It shuts off after turning on and the display goes off. The trouble shooting said it could be because it is going into protection mode. Is it worth repairing this receiver I paid $85 for it. It has a burr brown DAC and my 3311 doesn't so it should sound better. Does anyone have and experience with this receiver or one similar. It seems to be an Awesome receiver, but I don't want to spend a lot of money. My 3311 went in the shop after 6 months under warranty and the technician told me he replaced the mother board which cost $600. Any help will be appreciated. Joel

    RF7

I saw a set of RF7's, RC7 and RW12 sub for sale on Craigslist today for $1500 dollars in the Los angeles area if anyone is interested take a look. I asked my wife what she thought about upgrading my RF 82's and RC62. All I got was a cold stare. Oh well maybe someone else will be interested.
  13. I spoke to a denon supervisor today. He was very helpful and I am getting a refurbished unit sent to me as soon as they receive my unit. He assured me the problem I was having was not common. The bad news is I have to wait up to ten more working days without my receiver. I first took the receiver to the repair shop in the begining of november and won't get it back til the after new years. I'm learning patience.
  14. I spoke to my repair shop today and he informed me I needed to supply a box to ship back my receiver to Denon in New Jersey. Evidently I have to buy a box for him to ship it back. Denon has decided to look at the stereo in person. I also have a request to have the matter elevated as this is technically the third time my receiver has failed since purchasing last october. Any one have a suggestion of what to do. I hope they get it right this time.
  15. I took the receiver to the repair shop yesterday. I'll have to wait and see if they put in another expensive mother board or replace it. I hope Denon can figure out what's wrong.
  16. I have an RF-82 system and originally used my Denon 1804, 90 watt receiver to run the speakers they sounded great. However after reading comments on the forum and looking at what everyone else was using I decided to upgrade to a Denon 3311, 125 watts per channel. There was a nice sound improvment and then I bought an Emotiva xpa-3, 200 watt amp and used the Denon receiver as a pre pro with it and ran the 2 rear RS52's thru the receiver. When I made this final change the speakers were so smooth, clear and loud I have lost the upgrade bug for now. Someday maybe RF-7's & RC64's. Good luck with your stereo.
  17. I would get the RF82's. I have a set and I originally had a denon 1804 with 90 watts per channel running them. I later bought a denon 3311 and an emotiva xpa 3 with 200 watts of power and the sound really improved. Good luck.
  18. Thanks for your help. I am going to bring the receiver in to the repair shop on Monday and see what happens.
  19. I bought a complete new stereo last year. A Denon 3311 receiver, a set of RF82, RC62, RS52 and RW12d sub. I added an emotiva xpa 200 watt, 3 channel amp for the front. I spent several years ripping over 1000 cd's onto my computer and was all set to stream them to the receiver. I have had problems with the networking capabilities. The receiver will go into a "connecting connecting" sign on the receiver and never connects. I called Denon in February and they told me it was my network. At the time I called att uverse and spent a lot of time with them on tech support and never solved the problem I decided to use the playstation 3 to network the music to the stereo and it works real well, However I wanted to solve the problem with the Denon receiver. Last month I called Denon again and this technician suggested I try the usb port and reboot the network card. I did all of these things and not only didn't the networking work neither did the usb or ipod connectivity. I took the receiver into an authorized repair shop as the Denon technician suggested. I got it back last Friday after waiting 3 weeks. I set it up Saturday morning and it worked the radio stations the music and the ipod. Then Monday after work I turned it on and the whole thing started all over. The technician said they replaced the mother board which by the way he said cost $600. I called up the repair shop and he said to bring it in again and he would look at it and probably try another motherboard. We discussed this and I asked him what is the likelyhood that 2 consecutive mother boards would have the same exact problem. He said he never saw a denon with a networking problem. I called denon and they indeed told me I have to take it back to the repair shop, probably replace the motherboard and if that doesn't work call back. I havn't had the stereo work since february and it is now December 7th, I just took the receiver in for 3 weeks and am about to go thru the same hassel again (50 mile round trip). Any suggestions on how to handle this if the 3rd motherboard does the same thing. All I want to do is kick back and turn the stereo up when I come home from work.
  20. I have a similar set up RF 82's, RC62, RS52's, RW 12d sub with a Denon 3311 and an emotiva xpa 3 amp. I paid a lot more than you did for the 82's and the sub and the combination is great. the RS52's if you can get them later add a lot to the system. I first had just the dennon receiver hooked up but I saw so many of the guys on the forum had amps I added the emotiva and the 82's sounded richer and clearer. I hope your system works out great.
  21. Thank you for responding I get the Denon receiver on tuesday and I'm looking at the XPA-3 in disbelief. It is so omininous and heavy I'm going to have to put two 2x supports underneath the entertainment center. I'm afraid it is so heavy it will at least deflect it if not crack the glass without additional support. I can't wait I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas.
  22. I see you have similar speakers to my configuration. yours are a bit better but, I wondered if you could answer a question I have RF82,RC62 RS52 and RW 12d sub with a denon 3311 (125 watt/ channel) receiver. I just ordered a emotiva xpa 3 amp. I was told this should create a fuller sound at lower volume for my speakers especially with music. Did I do the right thing. I ask as I see you have the same amp. Thanks.
  23. I just bought a 3311 and i replaced my 1804, 90 watt/ch and there was a big difference at low sound. The 3311 has AL24 which upgrades the sound of stereo signals and it really made a difference in music. You can compare the specs of the 3311 to the 3310 and see what you think. I have RF82, RC62 and RS52 speakers with a rw 12d sub. good luck and it is an addiction. After buying my speakers i had to have an upgraded denon and today i ordered an emotiva xpa 3.
  24. I looked on amazon and found the bluetooth to rf adapter for $40. I have a harmony remote.
