  1. hey there Olaf, about 1 month prior to purchasing my rf-3's, i listened/demoed a pair of paradigm monitor-9's. that was the very last speak i listened to along w/ quite a few others in the $700.00-$1200.00 price range. i must admit they sounded beautiful(through NAD system) but didn't seem to hold up at higher volumes unlike the rf-3's. just after i left the store, i demoed the rf-3's down the road. they sounded like absolute garbage. now i don't want to sound insulting, but they were being played through a low end yamaha. don't know which model, but cost around $300.00. i've heard these speaks previous to that and knew they sounded better, especially through higher current, better quality amps/receivers. i'm not much of a yamaha fan, so i don't know about the exact model you own. but anyway, could it be the amp/receiver. once again, i'm not downing your yammi, just giving my own input to try and help. i would not lose faith, don't give up on them. when you finally get them right, you'll be running around in circles in front of them like a dog does when it's owner comes home.
  2. well i'm glad to see i'm getting some good responses. i honestly feel confident that someone could rewire their own speaks and maybe feel a little better knowing that their speaks have some better quality wiring. i understand there may not be a much audible difference in sound quality, if any at all, BUT i do know that after dissecting the speaks and seeing those flimsy wires which send power to those monstrous works of art, i'd much rather install a wire of better quality and gauge(not necessarily humongously thick)and feel a little more confident. even if someone else would disagree with it, i know once they took a look at it for themselves...those beautiful wires glistening to match the rest of the external beauty, the moment they leave to go home, the hands are going to be washed, the scrubs and facemask put on, the tools laid out, and the speaker will be put on the table for some reconstructive surgery. i'm almost positive that more than 50% of the veiwers of this site are thinking about doing it REAL soon. well to sum it up, i'm glad once again, and thankful for the helpful input, whether it be pro or con. overall KLIPSCH rules!!! and i will continue to refer others to the sonic bliss of these and other klipsch speaks. thanks again.
  3. hey Will, i don't want anyone to really take it too serious where everyone starts breakin' out the toolchest to try it, but IMHO, wouldn't a thicker gauged, nicely braded "for optimal performance" wire, be of better use than the little, flimsy red and black wires already supplied? what i'm saying is, if klipsch is going to build a speaker like the rf-5 with all the same aspects of the rf-3, with the exception of a larger horn, wood finishes, and of course monster cable internals, and sell it for almost double the price, then why not change the wiring yourself and replace it with some premium wires.? i personally don't care about a bigger horn and i'm almost positive that most would agree. i think the monster name alone is going to help in the increase of price of the rf-5's. i understand it is "supposed" to be a little more difficult to apply a natural wood veneer(so my sales rep says), opposed to black ash veneer, but i don't think for nearly double the price. and how much more could the bigger tractrix horn really cost? i still feel i, and quite a few others, could replace the wires on there own granted they have a little common sense and wiring knowledge. it may also make them feel better knowing they have some quality wiring feeding the juice to those mean woofers and tweeter.:biggrin
  4. since i had to return one of my rf-3's due to a "rippled" woofer, i decided to dissect it before sending it back to take a look at its vital organs. upon doing this, i noticed the woofers are attached by pretty flimsy wires. i do have some nice wires connecting the speaks. i just need to know if i took apart the speaks and replaced the wires leading to the magnet/driver with a heavier gauge, better quality wire, will that have a better effect on sound? i just want to know since the newer "rf's" are going to be wired with monster. anyone try this before?
  5. yeah, the "rp" stands for "reference powered", the "rf" stands for "reference floor"(no built in powered sub). BUT, they do sound like there is a sub in there.
  6. yeah, the "rp" stands for "reference powered", the "rf" stands for "reference floor"(no built in powered sub).
  7. you have a very mean set-up. i demoed the rp-3's before going with the rf-3's. you have the rp-5's, AND a seperate subwoofer, that's all you have to tell anyone.
  8. i know it's a stupid question, but when you mention "tosslink", does that mean optical? is coax a better choice if so? three of my digital sources (dss, ps2, dvd) are all using optical cables.
  9. i know it's stupid, but when you say "tosslink", do you mean optical opposed to coax?
  10. since i purchased these beautiful speaks(rf-3, rc-3), i've been wanting to know more than i already know about them. another question is.....are the tweeters ferro-fluid cooled, or does that matter?
  11. i don't have a monster or p-max conditioner/surge protector. i DO have a regular g.e. power strip/surge protector running to another surge/strip that goes directly to the outlet. BUT, i've been looking into purchasing a "real" conditioner/protector. tweeter etc. sells one for $80.00 by monster. is it worth it or should i just keep the two i have now. if there are any suggestions within the $100.00 range, let me know. oh BTW, will the setup i have now hurt, or should i just use one "cheapo" instead of both?
  12. well, it is official. i have a face now. thanks.
  13. i can't seem to use the avatar without changing my original user name and everything else. is there a way to just add it in?
  14. well thanks for all the input. i just switched my post bridges with 16ga. speaker(monster) cable like some have mentioned on this and other sites, and BAM!!! gone were the days! it's incredible how these little tweaks could produce a smoother realistic sound. i'm impressed people! even though i know i could bi-wire them with ordinary cable, i'm choosing to hold out for the monster cable i ordered. just something to look forward to instead of doing it all in one shot. you know, like going from level one and hearing it get better and better with the different mods. an external amp will be my winter project for the "ex" and "es" modes. i will use the amp for the fronts. i could only imagine the state of bliss i'll be in. i'm sure many are there already. by the way, anyone have that poa-5200 amp for the denon4800? if so, tell me about it..and once again, thanks everyone! oh yeah, one more question. how can i get one of those faces posted above my name?
  15. well i tried turning it down and it didn't make the noise. i think the speaks are just still too new and the tweeter has to soften up still. the denon4800 i have has never clipped. i owned th rc-3 about 2 months now and have it bi-wired. i cranked it to +04 and NO distortion at all. they put a big smile on my face because i never heard a speaker take so much without losing clarity and distorting. i've only had the rf-3's for two weeks. i had to bring the left one back due to one of the woofers being rippled, so the new one is about a week old now and that's the one that made the noise. i think it just needs to soften up more. anyway great speakers and i won't give'em up. the others i demoed in this price range and size don't compare.
  16. i don't want to sound like a pain with another static issue, but i was watching gladiator today at a high volume level. before i go on i will list my equipment being used. receiver: denon avr4800...dvd player: pioneer dv-c302d...rf-3 mains w/16 gauge monster wire(not bi-wired yet), rc-3 center bi wired w/ monster "m-series" bi-wire cable(forgot model but cost $50.00). well, on the very first arena fight scene where the masked fighter is swinging his long spiked mace and the wimpy guy is urinating on himself, there is a swooshing sound that pans around the room starting from left main, to rears and back to right main and center from the swinging mace. well i noticed on the second or third swing of the mace(just after the bigger slave gladiator closes his eyes), there was a static sound accompanied with the "swoosh" as if it was to much for the tweeter to handle. now if any one owns the denon4800, the volume was set at -16 which is somewhat loud. could it be because the speaker is still new? it also did the same with dialogue on the new "close-encounters" dvd but it wasn't turned up as loud. when someone speaks loudly, there voice may tend to break up at times and it did it a lot. is this normal with a new set of speakers? i don't think it should be. please help.
  17. i tried large also and it sounds superb. it's also bi-wired. i had the same question as well. why should it not be set to large?
  18. just as a reminder, i will not rid this speaker, just want to know why it buzzes with tv on. it is unnoticeable unless ear is nearby horn. just want to know why.
  19. i own an rc-3 center. i've had it for 2 months now. since i first got it, i noticed a very slight buzzing(only audible when ear is put to tweeter horn) from it when tv is on. when i unhooked the speaker wires to check for any mis-adjustments i still noticed the buzzing. added new monster m-series bi-wire and come to realize it buzzed no matter what. even with receiver power off, and speaker un-hooked. i finally turned off tv and it was gone. after contacting the place of purchase(tweeter etc.) they tried the same and it was also audible. this really doesn't bother me because you can't hear it unless ear is placed near it. i would only theorize that the speaker is acting as some sort of antenna when near(above)tv. i love this speaker and will not give it up, but will an ordinary sheet of copper underneath get rid of it. kinda like a copper plated chassis on a stereo receiver? hopefully klipsch will improve on this since other speakers tested did not do it.
