  1. Another test we tried. One of the guys happened to be wireing his house for home theater. He had a roll of 500 ft 14 guage wire and another half roll (250 FT). We pulled the wire from the center of each roll and connected these 2 rolls in place of the cheap wire. So one channel had 250 ft of wire and the other had 500 ft. We compared this to the expensive wire. The results were the same as before. I know you definately don't want a lot of resistance in your wireing but this was an extreme to see if we could create a difference, and to tell the truth it is not that easy.I think it is unreal to believe molecular alignment etc. makes a difference. Until some can demonstrat in a blind test the difference in ultra expensive wires I will never again fall for this hoax. This experiment was lots of fun and invaluable as an audiophile. Everyone that can needs to try. Unless you don't want to know the truth.
  2. Several of my friends, and myself have been debating about speaker cables for years now. I have a premium set and was cleaning out some junk and found a very cheap roll of wal-mart wire. So I wired the cheap stuff to B switch on my amp and connected the other end to my speakers. I know some may think this dangerous to the amp but A&B are connected to the same output they just allow you to switch between pairs of speakers. When A is pushed electrons only flow through The (good) wire, And when B is pushed it only flows through the cheap wire, also when both are pushed it flows through both. Some may say this taints the results, but anyone who knows fundamental electronics or even electricity also knows when no load is present (a or B switched off) that wire carries no current or signal. My friends all agreed that this was a fair test, so with each sitting in the sweet spot one at a time the results were amazing. There was six of us The only one who believed there would be no difference is an electronics professor at a local college.Switching from A to B not one of us could tell witch was being used. Actually with the amp hid , we could not even tell when they were switched, when for example it went from A on to both on to A off etc. The only thing that tipped off a switch was the quiet during the switch when both were off. Not only could we not tell A from B, we couldnt tell A or B from A & B.To say we were surprised was an understatement. Everyone double checked my wires because something had to be wrong. These cable manufactures are making a killing and ripping us off..............
  3. I was trying to set up my subs and ran into a problem. I have a parametric eq connected to my subs. I was running some frequencies and noticed a spike at 50 hz. I set my eq to 50 and started cutting. No matter how much I cut, the spike wouldn't reduce. I unhooked one sub and the spike was still there. To make a long story short I finally figured the 50 hz spike was coming from my khorns. I have a Harmon Kardon 7200. I have 3 lascalas and 2 khorns and I have all 5 speakers set to small with an 80hz crossover point.I thought the subs would be all that recieves sound below 80hz or so.I double checked to make sure the reciever was set to small and 80 hz crossover. After checking again It seems the khorns are not crossovered at all. Anyone know about this amp or what may be going on?
  4. Thanks for the help guys. I will explain in a little more detail. The khorns start to roll off at around 100hz. The spike at 35hz is actually more like a hill. It rolls off gradually to below 20hz. Above 35 hz it rolls off to about 100hz then begins to come back up and flatten out. The sub follows this same curve despite placement as well as the khorns. This is why I thought I might need a 7 channel eq. I could raise the mains as well as the sub to get a smooth response
  5. It might, but I don't have anything for it to learn from. I can't acess the test tone, crossover or any of the osd without it. I put new batteries in it and it didn't work. 5 minutes later it was smoking.
  6. I have 2 khorns and 3 lascalas. I also have 2 klipsch subs. I ran a frequency cd and noticed I have a bad spike around 35 hz. My room isnt very smooth overall. I was considering a 7 ch eq. It is an Audiosource Bijou. Anyone ever tried to smooth out a room with an eq?
  7. My main remote for this reciever fried. A replacement through harmon kardon is $109. Anyone know antwhere else to get this.
  8. I have a projector with a Da lite perf screen. I have a lascala behind it and can not tell any difference acoustically. I don't know about your projector but mine looks great. I placed a large piece of white paper on the bottom corner to see how much video quality I was loseing. It dissapears and you can't even tell where it is. If there is any video loss it isn't much and haveing my 3 front speakers in a u shape and all the same height is worth it.
  9. Yes ,It is a DaLite. I run it without the grill and can not tell any difference acoustically.
  10. Here is a picture of my center lascala. I finally got around to taking a picture of it.
  11. I have a front projector with a 100 inch screen. A friend brought over a LD player to try it and the picture was terrible. Not much different than vhs.
  12. Sorry about that, I said 5 but I have 3. I must have been thinking about 5 speakers total. With my room 5 heritage is plenty.
  13. I was actually running a radio shack center. I started upgradeing to klipsch and finally ended up with a center lascala. The most obvious thing is you need a good center. Your system is only as good as your center speaker. I used every center klipsck makes and none sounded as good as the Khorns run in phantom. I wasnt happy until I got a center lascala.
  14. Your right, nothing like full heritage. A friend came over to see my projector. He has advent all around. He was shocked the klipsch sounded that much better. Anyone in east Tennessee wants an audition let me know. Its real fun to show off.
  15. I am running the crossover to the khorns at 60hz and the lascalas set at 80. This seems high but with my test disc gives the best response. With music really cranked the subs run out of steam long before the rest of the speakers. With the gunfire on Master and Commander I was getting about 119db with the volume set at 11'oclock and the subs were distressing.
  16. I used 1x4s painted black. I will try and get a picture of the center with the screen down In a day or two.
  17. Thanks for the compliment. I have been at it for about 15 years. Kept tradeing up until I got here.
  18. This is an older post but what do you yhink of my rear speaker location. A dealer told me they should be more toward the center and pointed straight ahead.
  19. I have the center behind the screen. The gear is a Harmon Kardon 7200, sony dvpns725p, sony sat hd200.
  20. It is about 105 inches diagonal.
  21. Oh yeah I forgot. The black plastic is covering windows. I just havent got any curtains yet and the plastic makes it dark. The wires are christmas lights.
  22. Here is a better picture of the stands. The subs are under them. I have not been able to tell they are in the rear. The khorns are crossed over at 60hz and the lascalas are crossed over at 80. It seems high to me but using a test disc this gave the smoothest response. The room is 17 wide by 21 deep and the chairs are 13 feet from the screen.
  23. This is a front view of the screen. The lascale is centered and the top is even with the khorns. This system sounds great.
  24. This is the picture from my Benq dx650 front projector on a 100 inch screen. It is acoustically transparent with a lascala behind it. The projector is awesome and it and the screen were about 2000.
  25. Here are some pictures of my theater. I have 5 lascalas and 2 khorns. I also have 2 ksw15 but they need upgrading. I run a hk 7200 and sony dvd and satellite.
