As I understand it Tony has built less than ten Jubilee clone cabs. Bob Crites has a set of his cabinets and, while I may be wrong, I believe its been tested to be identical in performance with the real thing. Tony does not do work for Klipsch.

Thanks Coytee. Its all good. Ignorance is bliss[] I will make the pilgrimage one day if rigma will have me. In the meantime I will enjoy my own journey. Afterall, how many years did it take him to get there? Besides, I originally set out to see how far $2,000 would take me using mix and match pieces. I am now at $3,000 and I hope I am close to my goal. When I got back into good audio gear (thanks son) after a 35 years I was surprised by $400 speaker wire, $10,000 turntables and total systems that can run $75,000. I even had demonstrated for me a $40,000 system that was in many ways incredible. But I have several other hobbies including saving for retirement so that direction was deemed closed. Pre-loved equipment hunting is so much fun. I will get to the 402 and will explore other possibilities as I am sure there are other ways to "skin that cat".

Thanks for the suggestions on delay and horn placement. I will report results when I can get to it. I checked with Bob Crites and he recommended 500hz for crossover as he measured a dip in his drivers there. Been using 600hz so I will try that first before I play with the high end. Brad

DK on the Lebanon member. Send my regards. The bottom end is so good that now it makes sense to correct the room acoustics. First time I have had speakers that were better than the room at even relatively low volumes. Also, now on too getting the hardware behind them up to snuff.

I believe that your dbx DriveRack will allow you to dial-in some delay on your hf horns: are you using delay, and if so, what value (milliseconds or microseconds) are you using? Chris Chris, Thanks for the reply! I elevated them to correct an early observation of boominess that probably came from the room. Now the wheels make cleaning and moving a lot easier. I am using a sub to make up for not being able to use corners. (I passed on some cheap Khorns for this reason too.) I haven't broken the ice on delay yet. Suggestions? Brad

The HF driver was recommended to me by the bass cab builder. The horns were demo units he had laying around. One has a slightly larger throat after the opening and is overall larger in keeping with the tractrix formula. Kind of a gamble. But they sound great to my old ears. My desk is 15 degrees off axis of the left speaker and it sounds great to me. As I have them five feet of the ground the vertical seems ok out 12 feet or so at a sitting positiion. Wonder what they will sound like out twenty or thirty feet. The JBL 2435 is a pro product for large systems and is very efficent. Accuracy is stunning IMO. Thinking about conical horns and/or top hat enclosures. Brad

I don't know anything about that sub and not much about them in general however, I've got to wonder if it even begins to be able to keep up with these The sub is a Bob Carver Sunfire True Subwoofer Signature with 2,700 watt amp and specially designed twin driver setup. Probably enough output for the home, but a large room may be tough. I've been told that it has alot of output headroom. Its hard to say its there as I have it wired in paralell with the bass cabs with the crossover at approximatly 40hz. I need to wire in the sub to the Driverack and play with the crossover. Fishing line.

Mike, In the early stages of trying to "dial in" the high end horns I thought it might help to push the horn back, but I then got a lot of high end distortion. So I then thought about elevating them. That helped a bunch, but as I got the attenuation to -12db a friend of mine recommended the towels. This yielded great results. Playing classical music at performance levels used to be uncomfortable but now my Wagner stuff that has the most extreme dynamic range is so enjoyable. BTW I used fishing line and with the JBL 2435 that only weigh 3 pounds it was easy and looks cool too. I am looking to move to a new house so this setup won’t last.[]

bhendrix,Yes you are correct. Please forgive me I should have labeled the post according to the fact these speakers are clones. However, I am told these cabs are identical as to the wood/dimensions and I believe the bottom end result is probably very close. I just wish:that factory jubs were available in something other than black then that would be an option. Why does the factory spec a three way jubilee? What are the recommended crossover specs? I have learned so much more about Klipsch and jubilees because of the path I have chosen. Please also understand I am now the proud owner of some very nice Heresy Is and a set of Forte IIs so I don't feel as guilty of playing in this sandbox. I am a thirty year fan and former owner of many Mercedes Benz vehicles your rebuke hits a sore spot as I always felt staying original except for tune tweaks was important.

Please see photos in thread. They sound amazing after I used the features of the DBX Driverack to setup the crossover, biamp levels and used the EQ auto level feature to make corrections. Everything from jazz acoustic bass to Pink Floyd and modern dance synth is clean tight and powerful. I can hear subtleties of bass lines at lower volumes that I used to only hear at near performance levels. Some of the correction does indicate either a room problem or speaker problem as three bands from 125 to 225 are attenuated 6db. I'll figure that out later when I can try this setup either outdoors or in an auditorium with good acoustics. I am crossing over (if I am using the vernacular properly) at 600 hz with a 12db slope on both ends. This seems to be working fine as the male vocals sound perfect. The JBL 2435 drivers are really accurate, but so efficient I am attenuating them 12 db before EQ. Elevating the horns worked wonders and the towels on top of the cabs fixed some nasty reflection problems that was causing the high end to sound somewhat distorted. This is my first pass on using a subwoofer. My 16 yr old son made the suggestion and he may be onto something. Any ideas on subwoofer crossover points, levels and placement?

BEC does have some woofers that he feels will work. Unfortunately there are not many alternative drivers out there. The Pioneer's that JC used in his original build are no longer available. Those had a good match on the T/S specs and were also dirt cheap. I am curious whether the drivers used were close or identical to what was called for. Otherwise some adjustments (if possible) would need to be made to the throat size and back volume. Whether they had sufficient bandwidth is another issue. With some of the Jub-clone cabinets made using alternative drivers, those adjustments were not made. The builder(s) may have been ignorant of the issues or simply tried to "do it by ear". I hope that is not the case here. That makes me nervous, but the results are very pleasing. What are the drivers that Klipsch makes for Jubilees?

I spoke with Bob and he enthusiastically recommended his woofers that would replace the original Klipsch K-22 or K-24 or K-31 woofers. I believe he has a set of Jubilee clone cabs he is playing with. He recommended some settings but as he had not finished his testing he was unsure just how to guide me. I forget what horn recommendation he made but I believe it was the same as his Cornscala. Tony Ham built the cabinets. He has been building them for years and has many Hope contacts. Lives in OK now. His builds are not cheap but he will dress them up.

Hi bracurrie. Welcome to the Forum!! I'm curious as to why, If you have not heard to 402, you would say in your first post that you don't need the 402? The pictures you have seen of PWK were taken with early versions of the Jubilee with the K403 wooden horn that were manufactured for testing. Only a few were made. As I recall, PWK died before Roy had completed the final design of the K-402. Again, as I recall, Roy had convinced Paul of the benefits of the tractrix ( or modified tractrix ) and was working on the 402 that Paul never heard. The large size of the 402 is actually a benefit in home situations. Because of it's size, the 402 does a better job of controlling coverage and directivity of the lower frequencies of the horn. It prevents the frequencies at the bottom range of the horn from "spilling out on the floor and ceiling", as Roy puts it. I have heard the K-403, the K-510, and the K-402 in the same room. My choice was the K402 for its superior sound qualities. I'm sure someone will correct me if I have misspoken. Thanks for the welcome. Its really fun to exchange ideas and opinions with people that have alot more experiance and knowledge than I have. I was warned off the 2 in throat of the 402 as they are said to beam under certain circumstances. Now as the solution I ended up with, JBL 2435s and wooden Tractrix horns, it was a much cheaper solution as I found the drivers on EBAY. I thought if it worked out the speaker would be less massive. I am VERY happy with my gear after the inclusion of the DBX Driverack PA+ as it corrects problems that possibly wouldn't be there with the 402. So yes, I need to hear 402s someday. But for now I am quite happy to have bass that is so accurate my standup bass playing son is impressed. Maybe my old ears can't hear the problems with my top end. BTW I have a chance to buy a pair of Heresy 1s in near mint condition. Your thoughts?

How tall are your bass cabs?

Sorry my wife and I disagree, and she had a choice of cloth or just wood trim or anything she wanted, since she picked out the 402's the first time she heard them it was her choice. If you think the JBL 2435 is better you obviously never heard the 402 setup properly, . I love the BS button. But feel its overplayed as we are in subjective territory as to appearance. I will confess to having never heard the 402 setup but wonder why PWK when pictured with the speaker it had what looks like a wooden horn substantially smaller than the 402. But hey I am a newbie to Klipsch forums and I am not an engineer. I di elevate my horns to a point where they center about where the 402 would center and that really enhanced the overall sound. Of course now that the speakers are so good the source flaws are emphasized. Argh! As to the design choice of 402s I can't help but wonder if they were choosen for large room applications like cinemas. When looking at buying these from Klipsch I noticed a three way setup. Again for cinema applications I am sure. As to the crossovers, the active approach with tuneable crossover points, selectable slopes and equalization pre and post crossover can make any two/three way setup sound fantastic. I was afraid the DSP would affect the sound, but its such a net improvement I will have to wait until I can get a 1/3 octave or really fine parabolic EQ to couple with my passives to AB. A point or two about Jubilee cabinets. First they work extra well in corners, very well away. You do not need K402 horns (ugly as hell). A wooden 1.5 in tractrix horn with a JBL 2435 compression driver crossed over at 600hz works very well and is much better looking. I recently purchased a DBX Driverack PA+ so I could let my son use my Jubs as speakers for a DJ setup. I thought I was happy with my passive crossover set up. While its overkill for a static setup the driverack will set itself up for balance and eq while I force the crossover settings. With the addition of a high quality sub your theater setup would be stunning. My system: Audio Research SP-6 DBX Driverack PA+ speaker management system Sunfire True Subwoofer Adcom GFA 535 for Jubilee clones with Crites drivers Adcom GFA 535L for jbl 2435 compression drivers with tractrix horns
