  1. I don't think that'll be a problem, cause the 5.1 promedias still do active bass managment, meaning, even though it has a discrete subwoofer input, it still seperates the low frequencies from the other front/rear/center channels and sends em to the sub. So the 5.1s will work just like the 4.1s for games, the only thing is that your center channel will be idle, but that's to be expected. I've never used a GTXP, so I can't help you with the powere dvd question, but 4-channel gaming shouldn't be a problem
  2. Do you have 4 speaker setup selected under Windows Audio Properties/Speaker Configuration? Power DVD has different auio ouput formats/ i.e. Wave Out/ Direct Sound. I think the multispeaker options are only available under DIrectSound, try selecting that and then see which of the radio buttons become available, I think you may have to use DirectSound3d. As for the 5.1 sound card and speakers, I think from what I've read , you must select AC-3 pass thru in Power dvd, and then the SB-live 5.1 does the dolby digital decoding to the 5.1 speakers.
  3. Actually its very good PR, look how much interest these speakers are generating. And every little delay is causing a tonne more posts. You're obviously very eager to see them released too. I just hope they don't sell out within 12hrs of release.
  4. Hi, I thought teh 5.1s were due to be release on the 15th, but I can't find anything on the klipsch store page. Was the release date pushed back again? Did I miss that post?
  5. If you're waiting to buy a new comp, hold out a little longer until the nVidia nForce based mobos arrive, I know the integrated video aint that great, but the sound part will kick ***, and the other integrated features like ethernet, modem, etc. are sweet. You can always add a geforce 3 card and disable the integrated video, and I bet it would still turn out cheaper than seperate components for everything else, plus you get the dual channel DDR memory, which is something I really want to see in action. I wouldn't normally promote integrated solutions, but nVidia seem to have gone all out with nForce, except for the geforce2 integrated video, but then its to be expected: they would be cutting themselves short if they released a better integrated solution than their current top of the line GPU, and if you recall they've actually already done just that for the xBox. If you have a computer right now to use, definitely hold out a little while longer. -Jit
  6. ADS-...? which one are you talking about? from what I've read botht he ADS-2000 and ADS-3000 only have stereo analog inputs, not 5.1 or even 4.0. It would be nice if they did though, a simple DD & DTS external decoder WITH 5.1 analog inputs would be awesome. Then again, if a lot of companies follow nVidia's example and include on the fly DD 5.1 encoding, you wouldnt need 5.1 analog inputs. -Jit
  7. use the creative surround mixer, it lets you drag icons represnting sound sources around a virtual listening area. I never use it really, but its pretty cool just to fiddle with, like playing and audio cd and draggin the icon around your head to see what the effect is like. -Jit
  8. oh wow, that last post of mine was terrible, I missed articles and verbs and lots of other stuff too. I've been pampered by MS word for too long. Please excuse my grammar, or lack of it rather. -Jit
  9. No, you don't need anything else WinDVD can decode the dolby digital and dts formats and output them via the 5.1 analogs on the live x-gamer. In my experience the s-video outputs from vid cards to TVs don't look very good, simply cause s-video aint that great, and it looks terrible after looking at the image on a high-res monitor. Though, you should try it out anyhow, to see for yourself, since you don't need to do anything else but the s-vid cable, and if you have really big tv, it might better anyhow. Once HDTV outputs become available on video cards, it'll be more worthwhile to hook your comptuer up to your TV, but then many of the HDTV sets out there now support simple SVGA inputs anyhow.
  10. A digital conneciton would implie an inbuilt signal decoder and that would push the price up even higher than its currently slated at ($400?). A lot of people who have the money to buy this already have decoders or 5.1 sound cards, and don't need a digital input, they'd just rather save the money. Its why Klipsch is offering the Audio Tornado for purchase, for those who want/need to buy a digital decoder. On a side, isn't there anything better than the Audio Tornando? Its the same little system that Midiland and Videologic ahve been using for quite a while: pretty old and pretty generic. Isn' there anything else that at least has 4 channel analog inputs in addition to the digital. DTS support would be cool too. But that might be pushing the price up a fare bit. But then agian yamaha managed to incorporate all that into their cheap little system (the TSS1), pity about the speakers they use though. -Jit
  11. Do you mean too "thick"? How can the "length" of a cable effect the mounting of the speaker. Cables are always long. I don't think I understand your problem...
  12. Buy a stereo extension cable, (3/4" male on one end and female on the other). You can probably find one at Radioshack/FutureShop and such.
  13. Hi y'all Can anyone tell me whether you can easily hook up a 4-channel sound card to the Promedia 5.1 system? I know that the 5.1 setups have the subwoofer and center channels on a seperate line. Does this mean that bass is not filtered out of the front and rear channels like a 4.1 system does? The reason I ask is that I have a 4 channel SB live, and don't really want to buy a new sound card any time soon, but I do have a DVD decoder and would like to use the 5.1 systme for that, while still getting 4.1 sound when connected to my sound card. I was looking at the Audio Tornado, cause I thought that might solve the problem, but it only has 2 channel stereo analog inputs and not 4 channel surround. So while it might be fine to use as a Dolby Digital Decoder for the DVDs, I'd be crippled with listening to 2-channel computer sound from a 5.1 system! Anyone have any ideas? Also take note: I'm not looking for a high end HT system. I'm a student and these new speakers were going to be my summer splurge, and perfect for my tiny closet of a room. I actually came to the Klipsch site to order a 4.1 system, which is when I saw the flash intro for the 5.1s. ooooooh!!!!! Which brings me to my other point? Do you think its really worth spending the extra $100 bucks for the 5.1 system over the 4.1 one? I figure I'll be keeping these speakers for life, so I can cough up an extra $100 with that in mind, but only if its REALLY worth it. If anyone has any other suggestions for good comptuer speakers, I'm all ears (no pun intended). I've been griping about my pathetic set of Altec Lansing ACS 33s for a while, and have finally decided to starve a little to upgrade. So... I really don't want to get burned with what I buy. Thanks in advance -Jit
  14. I think the 5.1 has an additional stereo input port on the control pod, like the 4.1 systems have. Most people use this to hook up a cd/mp3/md player to play music while playing games too. You should be able to hook up your radio tuner to this port as well. If your tuner has RCA audio outputs, just use an Dual RCA-to-stereo miniplug adapter.
