  1. Thanks Hugeroost - I simply cannot recommend the Palladiums enough, even if you have to pay the full price they are worth it if you ask me. And yes, that is a wood burning heater, it's made by a Danish company called Scan. This particular one is called a Scan DSA 5 - it actually is too big for this room (meaning it can heat much larger rooms) but we just love the design of it. Kindof like I love the P39s, even if I am sure the P37s would have been enough for me :-)
  2. Thanks Shake - I am really glad you enjoy it as much as I do. Just watched "Real Steel" the other night, 7.1 sound on the Bluray really made you feel like you were in the stadium during the fight scenes. Are you getting closer to be able to share any more pictures of your awesome system?[]

    P27S/P17B

A delight indeed - we are priviliged. I must say I love every minute I spend with those beauties around me. Every night the missus is out the volume comes up and a good bluray gets a spin - and I am in heaven[]

    P27S/P17B

Hi Nic, Sorry for the late response, I have been travelling the last two weeks. As you probably remember I have a 7.1 system with two P17b's as sides and two P27s's as rears. The reason why my system is that way was really more space driven than anything else. The recommendations I got were the same as you are getting, use P27s's for both sides and rears. I know that you have seen my pictures and there you can see that I have windows on one side and open space on the other side of my seating area - so no place to hang the P27s's - I therefore ended up with using the P17b's as sides. If I had more than 5-6 feet of space behind the seating area I might actually have gone for P17b's as rears as well, and this is simply because I think the design is gorgeous (stupid I know). But as I only have about 1 foot between the couch and the rear wall I use the P27s's. What can I say about the sound? To me it is awesome. First of all I will say that moving from a 5.1 to a "proper" 7.1 - by proper I mean using sides and rears in addition to the fronts and center, not front wides or front highs - is amazing. The full immersion sound field created with 7.1 is just in a different leage than 5.1 if you ask me - especially now that a number of blurays are 7.1 or 6.1 (watched all the 6 Star Wars movies the other week - simply stunning). I cannot say that I think the P27s's disperse the sound too much - but then again I do sit quite close to them so my situation may not be all that compareable and relevant for you. My recommendation though is to try the P27s's if they are available - I do not think that you will be disappointed [] Good luck and let us know what you think!! Best regards, Skule
  5. Thanks Nic - fully agree. No regrets, and this will most likely be the last speaker system I ever buy - as such you are correct, the investment is indeed acceptable. FYI I paid approx. retail less 30% LI is a little far from Norway I'm afraid, else I would have loved to listen to a 5-sub setup [] As you say I am extremely happy with my system and will stick with the one Palladium sub!!
  6. I must admit that I don't have all that much experience with many different subs, and definitely not with multiple sub-setups like you have Nic. What I can say though is that the Palladium sub, even if it is considreably bigger than two shoeboxes, is simply amazing. I replaced an Infinity 5.1 setup with the Palladium 7.1 setup last year - and it was actually the sub that impressed me the most initially. As you probably have seen my HT room is not all that big, at least not the viewing/listening area but I was seriously considering two subs - after all the recommendations I got and read on-line. However, after setting this system up properly I have absolutely no need for a second Palladium sub - that thing is so powerful and goes so deep, yet it is so controlled. I consider myself extremely lucky to both have found Klipsch and the Palladiums, and to be able to afford the investment. I really went way above what I ever thought I would spend on AV equipment - but I don't regret it for a second. I feel like I am in sonic heaven whenever I listen to music or are watching a movie.
  7. Sorry for the late reply gents! Well, basically Boxx is right but I have a few observations to make. First of all the Palladiums are extremely efficient indeed, so you don't need a tower of power to make them scream. I think I have found a very good setup and I think the bi-amped Marantz matches the P39fs and the P27f perfectly. The dynamics is awesome and it becomes uncomfortable to watch any movie at levels above -12dB - meaning I am not even at reference level and the couch really shakes whenever the Palladium sub gets going. And I can only do this when the wife is not home[:$] If the two of us are watching a movie I am at -20dB at the most (which is close to movie theatre level I think). With that said, the Palladiums are 4 ohm speakers, but in the lower frequencies, where more power is required, they do creep even lower than 4 ohm - meaning they pull even more corrent from the amps. As such they can handle quite a bit more power than my Maratz can provide, and may even benefit from having more "breathing space". Nic, aka Shake777, made some great remarks to this in another thread in this section when he added five 1000W mono amps to drive his 2*P38f, 1*P27c and 2*P37f setup. With that said though - I have come to the conclusion that I will never need to add more amp power to my setup - trying to watch a movie or play music at anything much above 0dB is simply too loud and it is uncomfortable to be in the room after a few minutes - but it is still chrystal clear [] A final note - at first when I installed the system I was not fully blown away by the improvement from my previous setup. I mean it was easy to tell it was much better, better separation, crisper sound, wider dynamics etc. In fact, initially it was the sub that impressed me the most. Now, during the Christmas and New Years holidays I was able to visit a few friends with systems which are very much like my old setup - when I then got home and had a movie night it really hit me how fantastic the Palladium system really sounds. There is really no comparison to my old system or any othe other ones I have heard out there - and man do I enjoy it!!!
  8. Nic - your signature says (5) Emotiva XPA-5 (5*1000W) - aren't you using 5 of the XPA-1, the monoblock amp with 1000W in 4 ohms?? And not the 5 channel XPA-5?? Just checking!
  9. Nic - I can't keep up with your wattage, that must sound simply stunning when you turn it up - I expect yours to go all the way to 11 [] When can we expect some good pictures of your whole system and room in all its glory (not only in the dark)???
  10. Thanks guys!! This week I had the pleasure of helping to set up another system at a friend's house, a Synergy 5.1 system. Not too many of my friends have a surround system so I don't get to listen to other systems that often. We got the Synergy up and running and after a few tweaks, adding a carpet and moving the speakers a little, we re-ran the Pioneer calibration system and ended up with a great movie night. The point of this story? Well, last night the missus and I had a movie night here in our own Palladium heaven - and now I really know how spoilt I am - man the sound is good here. My friend was extremely happy with his setup, and I will not argue with him, it actually sounds great - but, I have to say that Palladium is a different world [:$]
  11. And finally those amazing P39f bass ports, or sidepipes: Thanks for watching []
  12. The 312 sub can really shake the couch and room - not to mention that poor bonzai []:
  13. Side view from the window side where you can see how the room opens up to the hall, office and stairway. On the couch you can see the 39f and 27c covers - I love the speakers without the covers on but that was the wife's one requirement - "if those huge speakers are coming in here, you better use the covers" - that compromise was for sure worth it!!!
  14. The sides and the rear - now you can see why I prefer the 17bs for sides as i have no walls to hang 27s on here. Even if the 27s rears are quite close to the counch I love the 7.1 full immersion sound field they produce. Now that more and more 7.1 blurays are hitting the shelf I am so glad I upgraded to the "proper" 7.1 setup:
  15. Side view where the whole system can be seen - and our dog is watching TV []
  16. Side front view - now you see why I have a plasma and no projector - way too much daylight as I have no dedicated dark room theatre:
  17. Front view of the 65" plasma and those gorgeous 39s:
  18. I have posted some of these pics before but in another thread. As they may really belong here I thought I'd get them out there for all of you to enjoy so here it is - my 39f/27c/17b/27s 7.1 system. The system with the Marantz Av 7005 and the two 5 channel MM 7055s where I use 6 channels to bi-amp the 39fs and the 27c:
  19. I'm not sure this is what you are looking for but I can tell you what I am using - and I am very happy with it even if the Palldiums can handle quite a bit more. As you may remember I run a 7.1 Palladium system with the P39s as the mains. I power the system with two 5 channel Marantz MM7055 power amps. I use 6 channels to bi-amp the P39Fs and the 27C center, then the remaining 4 channels for the 17B sides and the 27S rears. The Marantz are rated to 140W per channel with an 8ohm load, meaning 280W if you use a 4ohm load. I guess in theory you get 460W when you bi-amp the fronts and center, but you probably don't as the channel running the LF will use mover power than the channel feeding the MF and HF speakers - so you will never get both channels to reach maximum at the same time. I was uncertain whether the Marantz would be up to the task because their brochures (and manuals) say that the minimum load should be 6ohm. Before I bought them I contacted Marantz engineering in Germany and asked them about the 4ohm Palladiums and they ensured me that the amps could handle it - and they can indeed. Honestly I could not be much happier. Yes, I know, having a couple of great Macs or Krells would be awesome but the Marantz give me much more than I need. My viewing/listening area is not that big and if I am watching a movie at -15dB my wife cannot even be in the house!!! I can watch movies at this level and the amps are dead silent (no fans move or anything) for hours. When everything was new I turned the volume up to almost maximum and let the 5.1 surround version of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon run for hours to break in the system. When running that hard both power amps had to use their cooling fans - but I can tell you there is no way you can hear them then. The only reason I discovered it was that they kept on running for 25-30 seconds after I turned the volume down. And when I was doing that not even I could be in the room for more than a few minutes. The sound was crisp and clear, no distortion, but just way too loud for comfort!!
  20. Shake, P-38 fronts and P-37 rears - that must be fantastic! I tried the 38s first, but when I saw I could fit the 39s I choose those for the looks only (I am embarrased to admit that, but I just love the design with those cool sidepipes). For pure sound quality I am sure the 38s would have given me everything I need. More pictures of your setup is always appreciated!! PS! Have you considered a 7.1 setup?? I love mine, with the "proper" side and rear surround setup. Now that more and more 7.1 blurays are coming I can hardly be convinced to go to the movie theatre anymore - every time I go I sit there thinking that the sound is much better at home [] Skule
  21. I have the P-27c but I have it as part of a 7.1 Palladium setup with the P-39f fronts - needless to say I love them all. When I was looking for my new system I started out looking at the RF-7 II system but simply fell in love with the look and sound of the Palladium series - even if they cost me way more than I ever though I'd spend on a speaker system. Life has tought me though that the things I did not do cause me a lot more regret than the things I actually did do - so I took the plunge and haven't regretted it for a second!! Now, if I had the RF-7 II front speakers, or even as part of a 5.1 or 7.1 Reference system, and you intend to keep that, I would go for the RC-64 II. It is a great speaker, I thought so when I listened to it and I have read many reviews saying the same thing. The only way I would consider getting the P-27c in stead is if you are considering upgrading to a complete Palladium setup in the future [] Hope this helps - and good luck!!
  22. I'm afraid I have not. It would indeed be an interesting place to visit I'm sure.
  23. Thanks JL!! Norwegian is indeed my native tongue. However, as there are only about 5 million people in this country it is difficult to get anywhere in the world with just our Norwegian language. Therefore everybody has English in school. Of course the proficiency will vary but it is quite cool that you can pull up to any 12 year old here and he will be able to give you directions in English. In fact with basically zero percent illiteracy in the country we are also lucky in that no movies, TV shows etc. are even dubbed (apart from cartoons etc.), everything is in the original language and then subtitled - I think that is a huge advantage as well []
  24. Her name is Katinka - she's a 10 year old Gordon Setter and is probably closer to human than canine at this point [] She loves music but her favorite is watching the Animal Planet channel with all the animal sounds coming thru the 7 channels - especially bird programs as she is a bird-dog []
  25. I posted a few pictures in the "Palladium 7.1 Power" thread a few days ago - enjoy [:$]
