Got to install my KLF-20s today.
I love it when audio quality brings tears.
Recapped the xovers with Bob Crites caps.
Still need that one badge.

There's got to be a way to beat this.....
Again with the KLF-20s.....
Anyone have access to the Thiele-Small Parameters for the K-10036 K/E ?
If we could get them we might find a modern day equivalent that is still buy-able.
Looking at Parts-Express.
My plan would be to buy 2 modern woofers and use two original woofers and save the one original woofer as a spare.

I thought I would put this on here because....it can't hurt.
Looking for a KLF-20 woofer in good condition. K-1036-K or K-1036-E. Either is fine as long as it is not blown and looks original.
The one it is replacing still works so this is not an emergency.

I would assume the K-1036-E is the same as K-1036-K sonically. Does Klipsch still have the K-1036-Es for sale?
I've got some searches going on Ebay for a used original, but given the age of the KLFs they might be getting harder to find.
I think I have come up with a solution for the feet.
I need to take close up of the badge I have, to try to match it.
One thing I did not mention is that someone made off with the coupling straps (on the inputs) and they had been replaced with a couple of wires.
Probably have to use those but it would be nice to have the original straps.

Were the Klipsch k-1036 woofers used in any other speakers besides the KLF-20s ?

Ok not new (as you know) but new to me.
Finally found a pair on CL and just got back from buying (stealing) them.
Light Oak.
They are not pristine., but have things I'm pretty sure I can fix up.
The most noticeable thing is that one of the woofers lost it's dust cover and someone glued a smaller dust cover on the cone.
It still works, just looks weird.
I'd probably like to buy one that does not look weird. How much are they new if you can still get them?
I already had a pair of KLF-10s. How different are the woofers from the KLF-10 and KLF-20? Can I just swap one? I see they have different model numbers.
One of the grills is missing it's Klipsch badge. Can these be bought?
They guy I bought them from said he replaced the tweeter domes with Crites units. I can see them looking silvery and shining in there.
The seller gave me the used domes in the Crites boxes, one of them is bad. Can I tell which by putting a VOM on them?
The feet have long since worn away. The two that were partially left look like they are just slip on rubber feet like those on the end of a cane.
They have 1/4-20 threads in them so I can get leveling feet and screw them in. Good idea? Can the original rubber feet be had?
All suggestions/help appreciated.

It's just the plastic cover so the spike doesn't dig in to the floor.

I have a pair of KLF-10s that I bought new. I guess over time the spike cover plastic has gotten brittle. I had one break and I tried to epoxy it but that didn't work out.
Over the twenty plus years I have had them I have only moved once and that was a couple months ago. The rest of the time they have just stood in the same spot. So it's not like I have abused them.
Anyone know if they still sell them?
If not, can anyone suggest an alternative?

To compare the shortened 1 inch horn to the proper 2 Inch horn, I did the example again for a 2 Inch. It looks similar. There is a slight change in cutoff frequency though.

Obviously I am getting here very late in the conversation but by this chart it looks like the whole horn is only 3.451" over all from mouth to throat? Maybe I'm reading it wrong? In the finished pictures it looks deeper?
Maybe the dimensions got changed later?

While looking up info about KLF-30s, I ran in to a comment about the failure rate of the KLF-30 woofers. Can't remember where I saw it, it might have been here somewhere. The suggestion was that there is a high rate of failures and I was wondering if anyone has found a suitable replacement for those woofers. I would think that to make the enclosure porting/tuning work properly, the replacement would have to be pretty similar to the original. Is my thinking correct?
Has a suitable replacement been found?
Hate to go to the work of finding and paying for speakers only to have one fail and not be able to fix it

Currently using KLF-10s but always thought it would be nice to upgrade to 30s. Nothing wrong with the 10s.
If I did get some 30s I'd build some exact duplicate cabinets out of some sort of exotic hardwood. Just tired of looking at that black formica stuff.
I've got a Dynaco Stereo 70 and the KLF-10s and/or cash or whatever for trade.
I'd probably drive to Oregon or Idaho for the right deal. Just hate to ship stuff. Too many horror stories about gorilla shippers.
No real hurry, just thought I'd throw it out there.

The Fix.....
I talked with my speaker reconing guy and he said......
Go down to Joanne's Fabrics and pick up a little bottle of Original Tacky Glue.
Lift up the edge of the dust cover and try to sand both surfaces (the cone and the dust cover). Put the glue on and let it set 24 hrs. It drys clear and rubbery.
I wound up working the dust cover completely off and cleaning the bottom side (where it glues to the cone) with Laquer thinner and a Q-Tip. Applied the Tacky Glue and put it back where it goes and let it set 24hrs. It seems that I did it right and the speaker does not buzz anymore.
I bought the 4oz squeeze bottle, but I could have bought the smaller tube and had plenty.
Cheap fix.
The speaker reconer said if I didn't feel up to it to bring it by and he would fix it while I waited for $8. The only problem is it's a ferry ride there and back which would have cost another $25.

AH-HA !
I removed the speaker and found that the dome/dust cover is loose on about half of it's circumference where it attaches to the cone.
This should be an easy fix.
What kind of glue to use ????
Maybe silicon with a toothpick applicator?
