  1. Hi, My ASUS Probe indicates my CPU is within normal heat range. Oddly enough, I'm noticing that it seems to reboot more while I'm on the web. I have the new Toshiba Cable Modem that has the ability to connect to the PC via USB or Ethernet (it does not require you have an ethernet card in your PC). I've been connected with the USB....one of our IT guys at work suggested I install an ethernet card instead of using the USB option (he mentioned something about 'net overload', or some similar terminology I didn't understand). I put in the ethernet card & so far it's working....knock on wood
  2. Thanks for the replies! Follow-up to your Q's: 1) I originally loaded Win 2k Pro----I never had Win 98 on this PC. 2) I just put the PC together about 3 weeks ago. 3) My temp probe indicates the CPU is not overhheating. (I have 3 case fans and two HD fans) One observation, it tends to reboot at random; however, I've noticed it reboots more often when I hit "ENTER" to submit forum New Topics/Replies. I'm not sure if it's related to the rebooting issue, but it's an interesting observation. Also, the error log reads as follows (I don't know how to interpret it): Source - save dump Event ID - 1001 The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000000a (0x7ffad000, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x80496923). Microsoft Windows 2000 . A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini091201-01.dmp. Yep....this could be a fun one
  3. follow-up....I have Norton System Works....I've run all the options (Win Doctor, defrag, etc).....it didn't diagnose or fix the problem.
  4. Hi, I remember seeing a forum name on a previous Promedia 5.1 post....it was sharkysforum.com...or sharkyspost.org....or something like that. I have what appears to be an unusual problem. My PC randomly reboots itself. No specific program seems to be related to the rebooting. Win 2000 Professional 1.4 AMD TBird CPU ASUS A7M266 MOBO ATI All In Wonder Radeon video card SoundBlaster 5.1 Platinum Pioneer DVD Yamaha CDRW (I am aware that some Adaptec software does not work well with Win 2000 Pro - the version I have is compliant) Microtek Scanner Cable Modem ....and, of course, Promedia 5.1 speakers There are no IRQ conflicts according to Device Manager. I am not aware of any inconsistencies between Win 2000 Pro and the above hardware. 1) Any ideas? 2) Any good tech support forums? 3) Does anybody remember the tech support forum from one of the previous Promedia 5.1 posts (sharkys'something or other")? Thanks!
  5. Bios update corrected it! A new interesting problem! My PC frequently ....and randomly reboots with no warning. That's gonna be a fun one to figure out
  6. Hi, I'm looking for opinions..... I put an AMD 1.4Ghz Tbird on an ASUS a7m 266 motherboard. The mother board supposedly has the latest ver 1.04 bios update. My computer; however, thinks it's a 1.3GHZ chip. Any thought as to what I can do to get it to recognize it's a 1.4?
  7. Another vote for building your own You put in what you need & leave out all the junk you don't need....You know exactly what's in it....it's also easier to replace components as needed instead of having to buy a new PC. It's also not that difficult....alot of sites out there that guide you through building a PC. The hard part for me was deciding what to put in it. I finally went with AMD 1.4 Tbird & ASUS A7M 266 borad. The bummer is by the time you get it built they've already ome out with something new. Good luck & have fun with it!
  8. I'll guess july 28th at 10:30 am
  9. Thanks!....based on what you're saying, it sounds like I would not have to buy a decoder (like the Audio Tornado) to get Digital or Dolby 5.1 because the sound card would take care of all that. So, there would be no difference in features/sound effects between the DTT3500 and the Promedia 5.1 when I use the SB Platinum 5.1 sound card (the Promedia would of course provide better & more powerful sound because they're simply better speakers). Followup question: Is there a better soundcard choice that the SB Platinum 5.1?....(Many on these forums seem to like the Hercules Game Theatre KP).
  10. I've read several viewpoints about the Digital Dolby 5.1 capability: Some say the Promedia 5.1 is not Digital/Dolby 5.1 capable while others indicate that the sound card decodes & gives Promedia the ability. I'm somewhat a novice & would appreciate your insight. If I have the following two setups: 1) Sound Blaster Platinum 5.1 + Cambridge DTT3500 speakers. 2) Sound Blaster Platinum 5.1 + Promedia 5.1 speakers. The Promedia speakers certainly have more power. Aside from that....in layman's terms, what would be the difference in between the two?
