  1. I probably should have just stayed with the rs-52s they really are all anyone needs unless you have a really big room. The money I spent would have been better spent somewhere else imo. Also I sold the rs-52s to a friend for practically nothing.

Often it's the law of diminishing returns.

Yea no regrets just being honest might help the next person save some money. When I upgraded from the rs-42 to the rs-52 it was imo a huge upgrade. And don’t get me wrong the rs-62iis look and sound amazing so if anything it shows just how good the rs-52s are. Every other upgrade I’ve made in the reference line was a pretty big noticeable change that was probably the only exception. But I bet if I listened to 5 channel music I would notice I bigger upgrade though.
  2. Klipsch wanted $161 for a new driver. I would need two for one of my RF7's. I would just sell my RF7's and find another set in better shape. There is a set in Tampa local to me i would like to get.

I meant for the sc-3 but I would probably get new drivers for the rf-7s also 161 isn’t to bad for a rf-7 10
  3. If you decide to go with the RS-52s, I have set for sale. They are in mint condition, hung high on the wall. I upgraded to RS-62 to better match my new RF-7s.

I'm definitely pleased with the performance of my RS-52's with my RF-83 system. They definitely have no problem keeping up with the front soundstage.

Even though I love the rs-62ii (I like the new grills) and I did get a good price on them I probably should have just stayed with the rs-52s they really are all anyone needs unless you have a really big room. The money I spent would have been better spent somewhere else imo. Also I sold the rs-52s to a friend for practically nothing. [:$]
  4. The rc-64ii shed significant pounds from the original version too. My understanding is they used different magnets that weigh less in the drivers. Ive always been the bigger and heavier is better in audio guy but oh well. My opinion is klipsch has yet to regress with any speakers and their newer versions are at least as good as the last. Enjoy the speakers!

I believe they use neodymium magnets now. Developed in 1982 by general motors, neodymium magnets are the strongest type of permanent magnet made.
  5. No i think your opinion was good. You are right about one thing, the f-3 is a very bass heavy speaker. I owned a pair for about a month and enjoyed them for what they are. I cant give you a very good review on them since i did not do a whole lot of critical listening with them but it should be noted that the reference series uses a whole different material for their tweeters. I find that i do not crank music or movies too loud anymore so clarity is really important to me, and if you are using a subwoofer the bass should not be an issue. Also if you started with a smaller reference series towers you can always move those to surrounds if you want to go bigger. Jason no that is fine it just seems every single one of your posts has to do with prices. Everyone is trying to build their system slowly here and finding the good deal is part of the fun but its annoying to just go around talking about the prices, my true love is for the speakers.

  6. Sorry guys didn't mean it like that at all. Just giving the OP an opinion on the speakers from a current owner. I can delete that line so nobody gets upset. Didn't intend to come across as though the previous post was inappropriate. His opinion is that the f-30's are a waste of money. I just happen to disagree is all. ...... Blubitrate: I was just letting him know how inexpensive the rf speakers can be if he decided to go that route. Is that somehow inappropriate?

How is saying? “I don't disagree with your opinion on this. The F-3s are good speakers, and they can be had on a limited budget.” Saying that the f-3s are a waste of money? I’m confused[*-)]
  7. Well I own the f-3's and rf 62ii's right now. I use the exact same avr as you and I have the rc64ii. The f-3's are large bass filled speakers. The rf 62ii's are more accurate but provide little bass. I like both sets. Depends on your room size and subwoofer. Don't let people talk you out of the synergy line as they are great speakers for the money. I have owned the f-2's and the c-2 and c-3 as well. Would I rather have the 82's over the f-3's? Probably. (based on my experience with the 62's) but I would not rather have the 52 series ( had the rc52 and didn't like it). The 62ii's can be had for $600 or so and if your room is small I would go with those. If your room is large then go with the f-3's for $500. However if you can stretch your budget a bit u can get the 8 inch woofer with the rf 82's for $700 or the 82ii's for $900. The rf 63's can be had for $1000 as well and those are supposed to be very nice

Jason he was giving his opinion just like the poster asked for. This is the 3rd forum I’ve seen where you have come in and responded in a way that tends to sound like you’re saying the response was somehow inappropriate. nothing he said was trying to talk him out of the synergy line he just gave his opinion that I and I’m sure others will agree with that matching his other reference speakers with front reference speakers makes total sense
  8. I agree with everything SuBXeRo said only thing I would say is if you’re going to upgrade your fronts I would get the rf-62 or the rf-82 the rf-52 are pretty small for floor standing speakers. It would be an upgrade but I think anything smaller than the rf-62 is almost a bookshelf speaker or mini floor standing speaker. But best thing to do is go hear for yourself (rf-52 rf-62 rf-82) and see what sounds closest to what your ultimately looking for (the movie sound you talked about) and get that speaker. you can get any of them for the cost close to the xpa-3. I’ve read on many forums and I agree 100% when buying front speakers buy the best you can afford and have space for. It will save you so much money down the road when you go to upgrade your other gear because you will have fronts that will keep up. Like if you get a better center down the road you will already be set (rc-62) if you get a new amp (xpa-3) you will be set and so on.
  9. I went from SF3's to RF82's to RF63's, then to the RF7's. Mine are in a bedroom around 14 x15.

It was a big jump from the SF3's to the 82's and another big jump from the RF82's to the 63's.

The 7's were not much of a jump up from the RF63's.

Wow that’s awesome and I know how excited you are when I ordered mine I had the rf-64ii already but I bought the rf-7ii and rs-62ii and had to wait like a week. Was so hard to focus at work just day dreaming everyday was like forever. Can’t wait to too see pics but ill share a few just to rub it in [;)]
  10. If all attempts at vacuuming them out fails, are there any warnings related to poking a hole in them?

I had thought of a bent paperclip but that would leave a significant hole! No

I would order a new driver if it was me can’t cost that much I’m guessing less than 100 [:)]
  11. Well with that budget I would consider the SVS PB12-plus DSP http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-pb12plus.cfm Or you might consider the HSU ULS-15 with a smaller footprint http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/uls15.html GOOD LUCK IN YOUR SEARCH

Svs makes great subs and the pb-12 plus dsp is very nice, but for music I would recommend the Epik Empire (I have both) it’s a sealed sub with very tight bass, and a great value (800 vs 1350svs) I would say the svs is a tad better for ht cause it pushes more air at lower frequencies but overall for the money epik is a great value.
  12. I had an RF62 system, part of the THX system (three KL650's for the front) and now an almost complete Heritage system (three LaScala, rear Heresies and RS62 sides). The RF system was with a Velodyne sub, but the THX and Heritage have been with a pair of Danley DTS10 tapped horn subs.

Basically you're comparing a middle of the road Reference system with a Velo sub to an upper Heritage line with Danley. Hardly a fair fight. You'd be surprised how well the Reference 7's compare to the larger Heritage models (especially with the same sub in both systemsWink).

EDIT, I guess I don't understand what you had after re-reading. An RF-62 system or a THX system?

Very good point the rf-62 system isn’t going to be good for a big room at reference levels. But that room looks great if you’re happy with the sound I wouldn’t change anything unless you have a better spot for the khorns in a different room for a 2 channel set up. But For ht the rf-7 imo (new ones for sure) will outperform khorns. But I wouldn’t gut that set up if you don’t have other plans for the khorns.
  13. About 8 or 9 years ago, I bought an RF-3 II based system (with matching RC-3 II and RS-3 speakers) after some in-home auditions. I've been mostly happy with them, but I've recently become less than satisfied with their performance.

Before I continue, let me first mention that my room is far from ideal. It is about 13 by 20, with all the walls being solid pine paneling. In addition, the floor is hardwood. My system is powered by a Rotel RMB-1095 amp, fed by a Denon AVR-3808ci.

My complaint with my RF-3's in this room is: a) the top-end (high frequencies) are just a little too grating by times; and B) the mid-range and bass seems kind of weak. In the past month, I've had in-home auditions of Paradigm Studio 60's (v5) and Focal Chorus 816v's. The Paradigms seemed to have the aggressive top-end I've become accustomed to with the Klipsch, and their mid-range and bass was overwhelming. But they sounded even more fatiguing than the RF-3's (again, my room has a lot to do with the sound). Just really loud, boomy, and difficult to tame. The Focal's were just lovely, what an incredibly pleasant speaker. Nice aggressive top-end without being harsh, and a nice (not great) bass and mid-range. To me, they had a wonderfully sweet and smooth characteristic. But they just weren't "live" like my RF-3's are. There was no excitement - they left me wanting more.

So, now I don't know what to do. I have absolutely lusted after the RF-7's for years, but I am unable to hear them locally, either in a showroom or in my home. I'm uneasy ordering the system only to find that they are not the upgrade I'm after. I realize non of you can guarantee that I'll be ecstatic with them, but perhaps you can offer an opinion on a couple of questions:

    1. Compared to the RF-3 II, and used almost exclusively for home theater (movies and TV), would you figure there would be an appreciable increase in bass and mid-range "presence"? Keep in mind that I have a decent Paradigm DSP-3400 subwoofer which would still be doing most of the bass heavy-lifting. I'm not looking for a louder speaker, just one with a more sense of "power" at lower volumes, perhaps.

    2. I understand that the new RF-7 II series is a bit smoother than the previous generation. Again, compared to the RF-3 II, would you expect the top-end to be a little (not a lot) less harsh?

    3. Unfortunately, my room demands that I keep the speakers tight against the front wall, with only a few inches of breathing room. This wasn't a problem with the RF-3's nor the Focal 816's. However, I'm worried that the mighty RF-7s will sound unacceptably "boomy" in a similar placement. Should I be worried, or are they a bit forgiving in such less-than-ideal conditions?

If you've read this far, thank you. Smile And I would appreciate any advice and opinions your experience with these things might offer.

    Many thanks,

    DrJazz

I’ve had the rf-7ii close to the back wall and about a foot away can’t really tell much difference. The new horn technology in the rf-7ii is taken from the Palladium Series. “Titanium tweeter with linear travel suspension—trickle-down technology from our flagship Palladium Series”. The high end is crystal clear with zero harshness the midrange is very clean large and real sounding (not artificial sounding like so many speakers are) the bass even with no sub will kick your chest! The sound from the new 7s is just amazing it’s the type of speaker where you can see yourself never buying another pair of main speakers. Here are a few small reviews to them.

  14. Hello Everyone. I recently purchased my RF-7IIs but still need a avr and a sub. I noticed many of you have Yamaha paired with them. Is there a reason why you chose it over an Audyssey avr as it seems to be the popular choice? My new speaker next to my old Jamo e660 (little dusty). Also, you may notice the little scratch on the RF7ii. Yeah, I got them replaced straight from Hope, AR.

Is that the ones they sent you? With the scratch on it?

No, these are the original ones, They replaced those above with a different pair without any scratches (there was one scratch but it was on the bottom, almost underneath the speaker).
You going to post some pics of the good ones?
  15. i just leave my cellphone inmy croch......just kidding! well, not when im driving, i need to know if i am getting a call and i wouldnt hear it ring or vibrate next to me.

But, then again, most people dont know what they are missing and are blissfully ignorant.

    Sounds like me lol

nothing wrong with it until u learn what you have been missing.

I tuned the low frequency range and raised the gain a bit, this is helping pick some bass up at the lower freqs. i am keeping them pulled back from the wall, they were really just a few inches and they are toed in a lot more. They are sounding better. I did the same thing with the 5's when i first got em, just a matter of tuning it to my listening space.

I have fully decided to keep them. I want this to be for my HT purposes mainly. If i want something a bit more dynamic maybe for music, i can always find some rf-5's in the future or try some other brands. For now it works great for all my purposes, gets the job done and will take some getting use to. This is my final decision haha. I will assume in a larger space they will breathe and they will truely come to life.

Congrats on your choice[:D] I’m guessing you will love them more and more and i would toe them in but not too much. If your 10’ or closer to the 7s I would have them just slightly toed so the horns aren’t facing right on you. But I’m sure you will work it out.

  17. What are the stand offs?

I'm currently trying to acertain whether or not my RC-64 was damaged during shipping. I'm having difficulties with it sounding somewhat muffled, especially the tweeter. I bought it new and it had some minor damage to the front left vertical edge of the speaker box. Since it was discontiuned and I ordered the last one, the online dealer (authorized) gave me a further discount.

I was considering removing the crossover from the back, or the front plastic cover of the speaker, to take a look at the internals. Can anyone tell me what I should look for specifically?

    Thanks for your help.

    Ouch
  18. It's too bad you sold the sub so fast, you should have took the time to see how they sounded with a nice sub, with the sub you will really know HT impact. Both the RF-5 & RF-7 do pretty well without a sub with music (definitely better with a sub though), but for HT a good sub really is needed to bring things to life.

Both are excellent speakers, I really don't think you will be disappointed in either one.

    +1
