  1. Hello Everyone. I recently purchased my RF-7IIs but still need a avr and a sub. I noticed many of you have Yamaha paired with them. Is there a reason why you chose it over an Audyssey avr as it seems to be the popular choice? My new speaker next to my old Jamo e660 (little dusty). Also, you may notice the little scratch on the RF7ii. Yeah, I got them replaced straight from Hope, AR.

Is that the ones they sent you? With the scratch on it?
  2. What are the stand offs?

I'm currently trying to acertain whether or not my RC-64 was damaged during shipping. I'm having difficulties with it sounding somewhat muffled, especially the tweeter. I bought it new and it had some minor damage to the front left vertical edge of the speaker box. Since it was discontiuned and I ordered the last one, the online dealer (authorized) gave me a further discount.

I was considering removing the crossover from the back, or the front plastic cover of the speaker, to take a look at the internals. Can anyone tell me what I should look for specifically?

    Thanks for your help.

    Ouch
  3. It's too bad you sold the sub so fast, you should have took the time to see how they sounded with a nice sub, with the sub you will really know HT impact. Both the RF-5 & RF-7 do pretty well without a sub with music (definitely better with a sub though), but for HT a good sub really is needed to bring things to life.

Both are excellent speakers, I really don't think you will be disappointed in either one.

    +1

  4. Ok my bad I read your post wrong thought you were asking about rs-42 vs rs-52 i would go RS over the rf-42s the RS stuff is great I agree with Youthman even the rs-42 would be better than the rf-42 imo.
  5. I know we heard about the non-binding term sheet that was signed but it looks like it’s now pretty much a done deal

Sounds like they’re going to let klipsch be s Standalone Company hope they mean what they say and don’t mess up a great thing and if anything gives klipsch a bigger budget.

Sorry if this is old news for everyone the article is feb 2011
  6. I am going to purchase new rear speakers to go along with my rf 82's and rc 62, I know that the rs 52's is the speaker that goes with the package, but I can get the rf 42's for a lot less money, and I know that a lot of people on this forum use floor standing speakers as rears, and I'm wondering if I will regret going with rf 42's just to save a few bucks... Any thoughts?

    Thanks for all the help....

I’ve owned all 3 rs-42 rs-52 and now rs-62ii I would recommend the rs-52. Great speakers keep up great with the 82s and sound amazing the 62s are the best but 52s are almost as good.

  7. I have an svs pb-13 ultra and a medium irregular room. This is the fourth different sub I have had and the first one I am happy with.

I think you would be very satisfied, and as for paying for the name, I think with svs you are not paying extra just for a name.

Svs is amazing and would recommend it to anyone of the big 4 internet direct company’s they probably make the highest end sub top to bottom. Even there boxing they ship them in is color and not black and white (card board brown) like epik. Epik doesn’t even add a manual whereas svs has a manual and a cd. Now those things are pennies but you get my point. I had to replace my amp on my svs and when I opened up the box and looked inside wow in 25 years of taking speakers apart I’ve never seen anything like it. That speaker is amazing the port design is like a horn instrument and the driver is a monster. My first response was wow these guys aren’t f***n around. They are top of the mountain as far as internet direct goes so I only meant that usually at that point you may be spending a little extra for the name (and worth every penny)
  8. i wonder how dual epik empires stack against dual ed's maybe a5-350s or a sealed design, i would wonder about placement on empires im not sure if the dual woofers might be a bit boomy when facing the wall at least in my room, also i beleive ed puts shipping into their price and epik does not that is a pickup price, im pretty sure a few of the pb13s are out of stock for a few months yet, but you can almost get 3 of the other subs for the price of one, unless that new sledge amp for svs really smacks this sub out of the ballpark i think the other 2 companies are definitly a better bang, itd be nice to know somewhere to find some direct comparisions although i dont think any choice would be a bad one to have

Placement with the empires is actually just as easy as any sub. (Maybe more) you can put them however you want. And being a sealed sub they are way less boomy then ported subs. my empire is tighter than my svs (2nd best svs next to the ultra) the svs does dig a little deeper. I won’t say it’s the best value sub but I will say it’s the best value I have had or heard.

I haven’t heard the old amps but my svs has the 800 watt sledge and it sounds amazing

  9. Where I live I know no one w/ any Heritage gear to hear what the difference is between Hereseys,Forte1+2,Quartets and so on. I've been on E-bay and both the garage sales here and at the Polk site. Now would you go for a pair of Hereseys for $500 w/ no shipping don't know year or model just HOO. Then there's a pair of KG.4s for $350 also no shipping

Last year I sold a pair of Fortes for $400, which seems to be more or less the going rate. Go slowly on this. If your budget is $500, then you should be able to find a nice pair of Fortes or Chorus, but it takes time to find them. I waited for years to find my K-horns and La Scalas at a price I could afford, and within sane driving distance. I have seen several pairs of Cornwalls go for around $600. So long as you don't overspend, if one of these speakers doesn't end up being what you were looking for, you can easily get your money back out of them. As far a which speaker to get, with Klipsch bigger is usually better. Wink
Lol klipsch new slogan “size dose matter”[:D]
  10. i have 1 rf-5 and 1 rf-7 hooked up right now haha, getting best of both worlds. i listed both the rf-5's and the rf-7's on craigslist, i figure i will late fate decide which stays and which goes. I guess each way i will be happy. i just also want to see what bids i get on everything. Having speakers side by side is a great way to see ones flaws or ones perks. Most people dont get that option and are happy with what they get. But, then again, most people dont know what they are missing and are blissfully ignorant.

Buying speakers is the hardest part for so many reasons. Even if we like what we hear in the store it can change so much in a different room with different gear. And reviews are someone else’s ears in a different room with different gear. Your problem is a good problem to have and I still think that unless you need the money right away I would live with the 7s for a month then put both on craigs list if you can’t decide.
  11. I love sub forums it’s my favorite part of home theater but easily can be the hardest part depending on what kind of bass you might want. When I started I had one rw-12d then got another then got def tec supercube and still wanted more. I didn’t really like the bass I got from my klipsch subs so I sold them and bought epik and svs (both subs are amazing) you could get lucky and buy one sub put in the spot you wanted and boom its perfect more bass than you could ever want or need. But that’s unfortunately rarely the case every room has so many bass nulls that the odds of putting one sub in a big room and it filling the spot you sit with good base is like rolling a ten sided dice. People will tell you to put the sub where you sit then crawl around the room tell you find the best bass then put the sub there. That would work great if you don’t care where the sub ends up but for most people we have certain places we would put a sub. a svs pb-13 ultra is a great start but I think you would be better off getting two 1k subs you could get 2 epik empires for 1500 and that would be 500 cheaper than one ultra. I’m not saying svs isn’t a good value but I have a svs and an epik and the svs I have is 500 more than my empire and the empire is just as good. I wouldn’t go there if I didn’t have both siting in my room. If you buy a svs you will love it and probably buy another one down the road and be very happy. I will say the same about the Epik Empire.

There is a lot of really good sub company’s out there. And even though svs is still a great value and sub (I love mine) I think you’re spending a little bit on the name more than probably the other ones (internet direct subs) also the 13 is 1000 watts now the older one was 750

  12. Anyone know where the 7IIs are built? I've heard rumor of China, but always thought the Reference line were made in Hope.

The rf-7ii and the rc-64ii are built here in hope. I believe the rest are built (in the reference line) in china but the 7s I know for sure are built here.

I'll sleep alittle better tonight now. Not that there is anything wrong with "made in China" (I did enjoy the Swan speakers I once had), but Klipsch and USA are what I've come to expect.

Well I’ve had lots of the china built speakers too (klipsch reference) and I must have liked them or I don’t think I would have ever spent the money I spent on the ones built here. But I must say one looks like it’s built on a huge factory line and the other looks almost hand crafted.
  13. thanks for the great comparisons guys! I still have them, they havent sold and i went through the same thing when i upgraded from the 3's to the 5's and the upgradesonly showed long after i switched. Room definitly has alot to do with the sound and what i have is certainly not ideal for things. It sucks, what a terrible decisiont o have to make! I do think for music, the rf-5's are so much better at all volumes. The rf-7's pick up and sound better at higher volumes with music and are great for movies, they do have a lot of impact.

god now i am back tot hinking i should keep the 7's!!!!! RARBLE!!!!!!!

    edit:
Girlfriend says to keep the 7's if its beneficial later when our listening space is larger....go figure that one!!!

Best part is you don’t have to choose right away. You can run the rf-7s for the next month and get use to them. By then you should know what you like better because first impressions can sometimes go both ways but after a good month you should know. [:D]
  14. Anyone know where the 7IIs are built? I've heard rumor of China, but always thought the Reference line were made in Hope.

  15. I've had 3's 5's 7's 83's 20's all in my house at the same time.I suppose in a smaller area the 5's may in some way be comparable to 7's.Under certain restrictions 5's may be prefered, although in two different rooms I found no comparison. In a larger area the 5's are not comparable, the 7's simply outperform in every way, imo.

I only note this because anyone reading this thread should not misunderstand and think 5' and 7's are about the same.I f someone prefers the 5's to 7's that's fine, to each their own.

I guess that would have been my guess also but since I hadn’t heard the rf-5s I didn’t want to assume. My room is pretty small 12x26x8 and I sit about 12’ from the speakers so half the room is behind me. When I upgraded from the rf-82 to the rf-7ii the upgrade is huge in every way possible. I guess every room is different though, and I think sometimes we can get comfortable with what we have and for some people different (even if better) can seem off not saying that’s the case here
  16. Hope you at least got to try the RSW-15 with the RF-5's, a very nice combo!

When you do get a sub I have found that my RF-5's and RC-7 sound best set at 60 hz, I use 70 hz on my surrounds but the RS-7's may like 60 hz, systems and tastes vary of course but be sure to give these a try.

Also don't be so fast to get rid of one of the pairs of RS-7's for RB-5's, I run 4 RS speakers in 7.1 and love the way it sounds. I had bookshelves in the rear before but I like the RS much more.

I was a little surprised that you found the RS-7's to be a huge upgrade over the RS-3's but then I realized you are not using a sub so the extra bass in the surrounds probably would make quite a difference since that bass can't be redirected to the sub. I do like the idea of having 8 inch speakers all around.

Not running a sub changes everything. To give a good review of any speaker in a 5.1 or a 7.1 system is going to be so different without the sub. I’m a little surprised the 7s didn’t blow you away I haven’t had the old ones in my home but I have heard them and love the sound. I haven’t heard the rf-5s though and in a small room with no sub and the volume never to loud being in an apartment I guess I can see you might not see a lot of upgrade. When you are using a sub or subs and in those parts with lots of bass the better speakers are going to cut though better and sound better though out the movie and they won’t get drown out by the sub or subs.
  17. Which one did you like better?

My personal opinion is the rf-7ii is a better sounding speaker I think most people that have heard both have said the same thing. The review I read said they have better midrange and most if not all of the small amount of harshness in the old 7s is gone.

I think I would be very happy with either but I liked the look and sound of the new ones.

  18. I find the XPA 5 to just wonders compared to the Onkyo 876 avr I had.

I couldn’t be happier with the xpa-5 huge improvement over my avr amp. If you run just 5 speakers like I do avr can still be decent. I’ve have heard though when you go 7.1 the drain on the avr is really bad. So if you run 7.1 I would say it’s a must (separate amp) emotiva is probably the best dollar value of anything I’ve ever run across not just amps. But I would wait tell New Year’s they have great sales then think I paid 707 total to my door. Unless they have a sale before then keep an eye out. Also you can find them used on audiogon.com but they sell super-fast and for almost same price as new

  19. Your right about more time. I can't decide without some playtime. I have master and commander from Netflix right now so hopefully I'll get to watch it (should my son allow) lol. Well at this point I just don't see. Myself dropping $2200 on the 7ii's. I listened to them right next to the 62's at a local shop and just didn't hear a $1700 difference. Now I would love to hear the 63's and 82ii's but nobody seems to have any locally.

What’s worth the extra money will change with everyone’s budget and ears. I paid a lot less for my 7s. I don’t think at the time I would have paid that. After having them for about 4mo though I would pay 2200 in a heartbeat. Keep in mind there is always a better deal or value around the corner and you could drive yourself crazy trying to get the best deal or value vs dollar. Buying speakers that are discontinued will probably give a better value for your dollar then a new flagship line speaker. If you do buy the 63 or the 83 I would look at trying to get the old rc-64. Probably could sell or trade your 64ii
  20. I am thinking about getting different floor standers. Rf 63's for $1000 or Rf 82's for $750. Both sets are brand new. Thoughts? I had f-3's and now have rf 62ii's. I have a small room and 2 eD A5-350's so low's are not an issue. Should I stay with the 62ii's? Go back to the f-3's or upgrade? I also have a set of rf83's available for $1400 and rf 7ii's for $2200. Space is an issue. I can fit any of them but the seating is 9 feet from the wall so the further out the speakers sit the closer they are to me. Also I only use them for HT.

Depends on your budget if you are ok spending the money on rf-7ii then it would match your rc-64ii for look and sound but if that’s not in your budget 82s-83s all would be great upgrades. Rf-63 for 1k is a great value for sure. I’ve owned the 82s and 7s both are great speakers for the money. I think it’s all about what you would be comfortable spending. I’ve read that the rf-82 isn’t much of an upgrade over the rf-62 I kind of don’t know if that is true to my ears I felt the 82s had more of everything when comparing the two in the store when I bought the 82s. But the room in the store might be bigger than your room so in your room they may not sound that much better. If it was me I’d try and stay in the in the new reference line to match the speakers colors and design of your 64ii. The 83 and 63s are deeper speaker design than the 82 or 7s.
