  1. I bought an rf-7 7.1 HT!!!! Finally one came up on craigslist and i hopped on it. RC-7, RF-7, RS-7x4, RSW-15. Woot. I am selling off two of the RS-7's because they i dont have room for 7 channels plus if i upgrade i do, i want rb-5's. I am also selling the rsw-15 because i cant use it in my apt. It will blow your shorts off and make the guy downstairs bald if i turn it on. I will be interviewing these new speakers for a bit and then wil decided whether or not i keep or ditch. I have rf-5's which are great so we shall see. So far things are positive.

The rf-7's are monsters, holy god. My muscles hurt from beasting them myself. For sure, it is a team effort.

Very nice congrats on some great speakers!! I to would recommend moving the rack close to the tv and moving the 7s to the side walls. That will give a bigger stage and also give better bass overall from them to your lp (cause you don’t use a sub) can’t hurt to try it.
  2. They claimed they sent out an email and that I responded saying it was ok! Lol. Really. I'm not kidding. I will be contacting klipsch about this because they are an authorized dealer straight off klipsch's website. I'm sure klipsch doesn't know about these business practices.

    [:o] wow

  3. Well then I should put an add out for trades then. My 62ii's for someone's 62's! Just really annoyed at the customer service. Oh and the new feet! Lol

I didn’t like the new feet either (well the back ones) tell I got them the old ones are plastic and cheap the new ones seem to be like a steel and give a more solid feel I also now like the look better but I don’t think to many people liked them coming from the old look. It’s crazy that they just send people the new ones a lot of people have said that has happened to them I would not be happy either for many reasons. For you it works cause the color of the drivers match your 64ii the old rf-62 have a different color driver and grill design. But I don’t know how they just mindlessly send out a totally different model without even a phone call to make sure it would be ok. Because I guarantee you’re not the first one who has called that same company about this and yet they still do it.

Ps. Grats on your new speakers hope you like the way they sound atleast[:D]
  4. I have seen many posts saying my speakers sound better after a few months of being played. Is that true? I can't see why. I have Klipsch RF82

    Thanks

That’s a huge debate most experts will tell you that tests say there isn’t anything that really changes. But a lot of people say they notice a change.
  5. Side by side.....my Cornwall III's sound superior to my RF7II's for sure. The CWIII 's sound fuller and not as bright.

The cornwalls lll are priced about $600 more a pair so I guess they should sound better.

How much better I wouldn’t know.

  6. A lot of the best sound to me comes (call me crazy) in the credits I love some of the music credits. I normally listen to the movies at about -17 but usually turn it up to about -10 for the credits. Can’t really close your eyes during movies but in the credits you can close your eyes and really just listen to the sound. A great example of this would be the first pirates movie (all 3 are great for this).
  7. ... why not a Quartet?...or the Forte lI...or KLF 20?

Thanks for the suggestions - i hadn't thought of those. Let me restate my goals & why I came to the choice originally stated:

    1. I want bass to at least the lower 30s
    2. I want as much midrange detail as possible
    3. I want a simple solution, if possible (fewer boxes = better)
    4. Size doesn't much matter (wife tolerates speakers well)
    5. I want to minimize cost

What I've had in the past:

La Scalas (Good midrange but no bass extension)
Cornwalls (Good bass extension but some loss of midrange detail)
Heresys (OK midrange, but no bass extension)

    What I already own now:

    Heresys
Difinitive Technology Supercube I self-powered subwoofer (flat to 13 Hz)

Obviously, the current setup meets all desires above except No. 3. To finance CornScalas, I'd need to sell the current setup & toss in some cash. The benefits I'd expect from the CornScalas would be in the area of desire No. 2.

How would Quartets, Fortes or KLF-20s fit into this plan? Alternately, would putting the Heresys up on stands provide additional clarity? The bass could be compensated for by the sub...

Supercube1 isn’t flat to 13 Hz. actually not even close it dips way off around 25 Hz. I run a sms-1 sub eq it has an onscreen set up and shows the true performance of subs. only way it would hit that # is if they had the stats at like +15/-15db. I love the sub works great with my other subs but I don’t know how def tec gets away with their stats on their subs. All their stats are crazy they rate the amp at like 1200 watts too [:o]
  8. Just got mine today, they are replacing a pair of Classic RF-7s. They sound fantastic!! Debating on the RC-64II and a sub, or stick with 2ch and upgrade my amp and pream.

    Congrats...

Nice what would you say they sound like compared to your old rf-7? I thought they sounded way different but I heard them in a store not at home although they were side by side so still a good comparison. To me they sounded bigger cleaner and harder to localize. (lol my one sentence review)

I'd agree with your account - smoother bass and less shrill on the top end, but still retains the precise clarity and punch. Me likesBig Smile

What do you power yours with?
  9. For some reason high frequency portions of sounds such as speech, sibilance, rain falling, waves crashing, hockey skates scraping the ice, or any speech in general sounds significantly different through my RC-64 than my RF-83s. It is very apparent when, say, a sports announcer is speaking, and I switch back and forth between stereo mode, where the speech comes out of the 83s, and auto surround mode, where a Dolby Digital signal feeds the speech to the 64. The announcer's voice through the 64 sounds a bit muffled with the high end "tamed". It's not that the speech is not clear or strong, it just seems to lack the highest parts, leading to the slightly muffled sound. This is the case whether I run MCACC or set up manually. It has also been the same when I have used my current amp or when I tried an SC-35. It has been enough of a difference that I have rathered watch in stereo than Dolby Digital, which just doesn't seem right when we're talking about a $1000.00 flagship center channel.

When I've played music through the RC-64, in one of the modes that directs music to the center channel, the tweeter clearly works, but sounds different than the tweeters in the 83s, again seeming to lack the highest parts of cymbals and vocals, even though they are suppost to be the exact same driver.

I don't think it can be attributed to simple timbre matching as, even though I understand, based on professional reviews, that the 64 is supposed to not be a perfect timbre match to the 83, it is still supposed to be quite good. What I'm getting, while clear and strong, seems to be missing part of the sound information. Also I never experienced anything like this with my old Polk M70/CS2 setup. Frankly, the the sound I recall from the $129.00 CS2 in 5.1 was far clearer and more alive than my 64.

Can someone with an 83/64 setup try switching between stereo mode and Dolby Digital and see if they experience the same thing? Do I possibly have a defective RC-64?

    Thanks for your help.

Sorry if this part is obvious but have you put your ear up and can hear the horn working? And if you can explain what you hear with you ear up to it compared to the 83s

  11. The things that sound good truly sound amazing, what I find the worst are some old rock stuff but not all. I played an old clapton greatest hits and a couple songs were not tolerable.I guess when the recording is good its good and with these speakers when its not its really not.

really good example of this is a boom box, or an old stock car radio everything sounds the same don’t matter how good or bad it is still sounds the same. With the 7s everything to me sounds different it’s a different color or sound every cd or blu ray. I’ve never heard them sound terrible though but I’m kind of picky what I watch or listen to. As good as some old bands are only a some have really good sound like a pink Floyd or something.
  12. I have come across a used Synergy C3 for around $130 - do you think it would be a good purcahse to pair with a set of RF62- IIs?

I strongly recommend staying reference and if possible get the rc-62 great speaker you will love it and will match your fronts perfect in sound and looks. I never had the rf-62 but had the rf-82 with the rc-62 for a few years loved it. If you watch a lot of movies the center is not a good part to take a chance on imo go with what you know will work great.
  13. Confirming Emotiva amps are really good value, i run Forte IIs off 2x UPA-1 and it sounds well satisfying.

Emotiva preamp USP-1 is best sounding at price range - yes, it's a bold statement and yes, i listened to it, but i liked and kept my slightly more expensive tube preamp. They promised to release XSP-1 this summer, which will be true balanced preamp (although i personally don't really care for balanced).

Although i am about to get Oppo95, i still have my Rega Planet CD player and it works beutifully. It's not a preamp, but it could help reassure You that this somewhat rarer brand in US of A produces decent quality products.

    Good luck in Your search.

There is a really good review of the xpa-2 on audioholics.com he basically said that it sounded as good as his denon 5808 (I think that’s the model. he said is the best avr he’s heard) its 7k and it’s a monster. He also said it was the most powerful amp he’s ever bench tested. It’s crazy because I kind of get scared if it’s cheap I just assume it must be cheap if the price is. However Internet direct companies have really impressed me from my subs to my amp. Just get so much for what you spend.
  14. Last week we had the demo at our place of the Rega/NAD amps. Source was an Olive O3HD.

It wasn't really a succes. Mids and Highs were allright, it sounded like he placed a center speaker, voices seem to come from somewhere in between the RF7's. Bass performance was poor, I must say. I had the impression that the NAD's ran out of power way too soon, and although we had been listening for only an hour I found that they ran very hot.

I hooked up my powered sub, and I never heard such tight bass before (coming from the sub). So I think the Rega pre amp was alright.

Does anyone have suggestions? Someone suggested a second hand Rotel RB 1090, or the new series of Rotel Class D amps.

I have a 2 channel direct mode so I do mess around with just the 7s, and coming from so much bass in my set up (3 subs 2 that are huge) and what the 7s put out going to just the 7s makes it hard to not feel like something is missing for me. But if I sit down and just listen to them from the start it’s a lot better. I think it’s hard not to get a little spoiled when we all use subs so much in ht. 15 years ago subs weren’t very popular in home systems. Just corner load the fronts and eq up the bass. So what we think is good bass I think has changes a lot. But I to have thought about getting a really nice 2channel amp and when I listen to how good my xpa-5 sounds I bet 2 exp-1s our possible 1 xpa-2 even would be plenty.
  15. what u advise stereo or power amp for rf-7 ii?

I run an emo xpa-5 for them it sounds amazing. But there are definitely better amps though. I might get a better 2 channel amp for them down the road not sure yet maybe an xpa-2 or maybe go used and get more value. And haven’t listened to the 7s with just the avr so don’t know how they sound but I would guess still pretty nice.
  16. Welcome to the forums.

I'm not familiar with either but looking at the specs between the older F3 and the newer F30, not much difference at all. Looks like slight crossover change and .5 difference in sensitivity.

Maybe someone can chime in who has actually compared the two speakers.

I bet they will sound very close sorry I haven’t heard them. But like youth said the differences seem more like a tweak then a change I’m guessing that the crossover change gave the speakers .5 better sensitivity rating.
  17. Reference level for Audyssey is 75dB. When you run Audyssey, it attempts to set every speaker so that when your volume control is at 0, you are getting 75dB SPL. This level is used in order to recreate the film reference calibration. If you like to change the levels to suit your listening preference of the various speakers, that's certainly your choice, but the idea is to recreate the sound setup the film producers intended you to hear.

Since Klipsch speakers are very efficient when compared to most home audio systems, we often run into a problem where Audyssey hits the -12dB trim limit. The problem with that is that you have no idea if your speaker is set at the correct level or if it is still way off and Audyssey has hit the -12dB wall. When I ran Khorns in my room, I had to use attenuators with my home audio amps to give Audyssey a chance to set the speakers to the correct level. At the time, I did not have amps that had sensitivity controls as my pro amps do now. Some home amps do have sensitivity controls that will allow you to reduce the sensitivity on the amp, Parasound is one of those manufacturers. With those amps, you can reduce the sensitivity of the amp and allow Audyssey more control over your speaker if you are hitting the -12dB setting.

When testing your subwoofer, it will always seem to you to be 'softer' than we all like. But, I can assure you that when a movie plays, it will more than meet the requirements. In some cases, if you boost the sub output to suit your listening taste during the test, you will find the sub bottoming out during movies that really push the sub. In the long run, you will end up having to replace the sub.

I find it very puzzling that Audyssey did not pick up on three speakers out of phase. Both my built in Integra Audyssey MultiEQ and my Audyssey Pro Kit will tell you if you have a speaker out of phase. There are a few speaker designs that will confuse Audyssey and can show phase errors where none exist, but that is not a common issue with Klipsch speakers. In some other cases, speaker room interactions can also cause incorrectly reported phase errors. But generally speaking, Audyssey should catch that kind of problem. I would certainly take the time ensure all my wiring is correct. If you have Heritage speakers and have after market crossovers, I would certainly check those as well.

In any event, a properly setup Audyssey system will 'immerse' you in the movie. If you are 'aware' that your effects speakers are playing, I suggest they are not set correctly. That can be distracting, and the idea is to transport the audience 'into' the movie. So, doing the work to set it up correctly is well worth the effort.

I agree that it’s strange that 3 out 5 are out of phase I would trust Audyssey over the other phase test you’re using. As far as hearing the surrounds or turning up the bass that’s just all taste no one should be held to what Audyssey thinks is best. Even if it makes it closer to what the movie was made to sound like. Part of having a home theater is being able to have it as close to how we want it. Audyssey is far from perfect no disrespect to Audyssey(I’m going to get crushed for this lol) but it’s a good starting point and great for people who don’t have a lot of other tools or knowledge on setting it up. Definitely not the end all.

And I’m definitely not saying that people that use it would not have a lot of knowledge or other tools I used it it’s a great tool.

When Audyssey gets to a point where you can put in a blu ray download it to the a hard drive built into a avr examine the information then calibrate your speakers to that movie set up and adjust it to your room then that would be a set up that we could live by.
